  1. Indeed, Chick. Referring to yourself? :))
  2. Oh well, who knows. The tree outside my house was quite new when it split down the middle as a result of somebody apparently trying to wrench off one of its branches, and the council had to remove it as it was a potential hazard. It only took them about two years to replace it :)) and that was only after I'd got James The Councillor involved!
  3. I'm making no further comments on this thread for fear of being called wilfully stupid and obnoxious again :)) Neither of which I think I was, and I certainly didn't intend to be, but hey ho .....
  4. Nice try, had me fooled for a minute :))
  5. It's possible there could have been a good reason for that eg tree was diseased or had got too big for its space and roots would potentially affect nearby houses. Back in the day street trees were planted with little consideration as to how big they would grow, I think. Not saying that's necessarily the reason, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt, eh.
  6. I want one! Where can I get one? :))
  7. I'm a Guardian reader and I beg to differ :)) However I have neither the time nor inclination to do the necessary research to back up my opinion :))
  8. Oh OK, fair point I suppose, but I think if you researched the opinions of Daily Mail readers you might actually find that there was some basis in fact in what Pilch said :)) And - they guy wasn't "living permanently in a van".
  9. Sounds about the same effect as Danish Oil then, matter of personal choice I guess!
  10. Why, is Pilch a Daily Mail reader then? Is that the irony? I still don't see it, sorry. Don't see anybody here attempting to impose draconian values on others apart from the OP and sympathisers? Everyone else appear to be more of the live and let live persuasion .....
  11. Hey that all sounds good, just wish it wasn't such a trek from mine :) Wonder if they'll be doing food, just before they closed last time they had started doing Sunday roasts (I think), I vaguely remember having one during one of their all-afternoon gig things. Memo to self: Investigate buses .....
  12. I believe you need to put on three coats of oil when the worktops are new, then you only need to oil once a year. The oil goes on easily (or it seems so from watching someone else do it!) so not a huge chore - I hope! Only downside is that judging from my bathroom worktop, Danish oil does make the wood look darker (or in my case back to its original colour, as it had been distressed. Still looks a bit like driftwood, but iroko-coloured driftwood :)). Ultraburner, is tung oil also dark? I don't think I've got a nut allergy so I could use that in the kitchen .....
  13. Where's the irony, quids?
  14. That's weird, I should be able to view jpegs OK, I'll try again :)
  15. :)) The opposite of political correctness gone mad, in fact :))
  16. Good luck with the re-opening h1981, are you able to divulge anything at all about the changes you are making? I love the back room so hope that won't be changing! Sorry not to have filled in your QA, I've only just seen it so probably too late now. Anyway the Ivy House is a long way from where I live so I only tended to go there for live music gigs unless in the area for some other reason.
  17. SL, you have started another thread on this - might it be better to just have one thread as when I read your post on the other thread, which was a lot further up than this one, I had no idea what you were talking about! Presumably the carwash is responsible for the loss (not that that's any comfort if the picture is irreplaceable) and also possibly the police may be able to trace the other car if anyone can remember any part of its numberplate or any other distinguishing features of it? Hope you get the parcel back, anyway.
  18. Saffron, hopefully your worktop will be fine varnished, but one of the websites I looked at says this: "At Diydoctor we have received many questions asking which varnish should be used to re-vamp a wooden kitchen worktop? The answer is NONE ! Timber worktops should be prepared without any application that is likely to chip or crack. This will harbour germs and become extremely unhygienic in no time." I can't say whether or not the above is true, but I haven't seen varnishing actually recommended anywhere for a kitchen worktop.
  19. Your link doesn't work either Loz..... Not for me, anyway .......
  20. I just think the expression "political correctness" is overused, and not very meaningful anyway. And the phrase "political correctness gone mad" is often used to describe something which is actually just being respectful to other people's feelings. I'm not saying that's the case here, btw, I can't see anything wrong with describing an Easter holiday as an Easter holiday!
  21. I'd be interested as a customer (provided prices reasonable!) Also if you think the kind of music The Goose Is Out! promotes would be suitable, let me know. It would be free, obviously.
  22. NappyLady, when I click on your photos I get a load of gobbledegook and no picture, what programme can I view them in?
  23. Why are they removing the North Cross Road board? That's the stop I use when going in the Forest Hill direction, so whilst recognising that I am only one of many people using the buses, that's really really annoying! It's a request stop, so I rely on the board to know whether I can read my book for a while without having a bus sail by without me :) What's the point of removing boards, can the system only bear a certain number or something?
  24. edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm more offended by the phrase "political > correctness gone mad". xxxxxxxxx Same here :)):)):))
  25. Happy now, DJKQ? It would have been nice if as a DJ you did your best to support people working hard to bring music to the area. Others, thanks for your support - obviously we will be meeting Nick to see how this affects our gigs, but we have five further nights already booked at DHFC this year, and we are contracted with the artists to hold them or we will have to pay thousands of pounds in guaranteed fees. ETA: Which comes out of Nygel and my pockets. I am on a pension and he is not working at the moment.
