Some of us like fairy lights all year round, why do you think they are Christmas lights, are they in the shape of reindeer or something?

For what it's worth, and I have no evidence for this whatsoever, I think that some of these incidents (not the bending key ones I don't think) are to do with either parallel universes or dimensions, and that sometimes there is slippage between them. Could also be time slippages involved. And if you have read anything about theories in modern physics, you'll know that is not necessarily a totally improbable explanation. Edited to add: I think a lot of people don't talk about stuff like this for fear that people will think they're mad, so thanks KK for starting the thread :)

I was once verbally abused on a train for wearing a fake leopard fur coat. I was so taken aback I couldn't think of a suitable reply. I think it's interesting the change of popular feeling re fur. I used to have a second hand - sorry, vintage - fur coat in the late seventies/early eighties. I wore it proudly for several years until I realised I was being treated like a criminal in some quarters, and I stopped wearing it. For years, you would never see people selling these coats, but now they're back - one of the stalls on North Cross Road had a whole rack of them the other week, and models have started wearing fur again. So what changed exactly? My own feeling is that wearing an old fur is fine - the animal's already long dead after all, and why waste a good coat. They're very warm (obviously, that's why animals have fur I presume). But I don't like the idea of animals being farmed purely for their fur, or being killed purely for their fur, and I wouldn't want to wear anything made of that fur. I do eat meat, but if I am buying it myself I will only buy stuff which I know is free range.

I have another case which is even more weird, but although I was told about it by someone I trusted I'm less sure about them than my relatives, and I'm not in touch with him any more. Anyway, this guy for some reason (don't ask, it was in the seventies) had a crystal which, if memory serves, he had left on his bed and it had disappeared. He couldn't find it anywhere. Some time later, he moved house. On moving the bed, he noticed a lump under the carpet under the bed. The carpet was in one piece, there were no holes or anything. On further investigation, it was the crystal. :-S

At breakfast, one of the couple who owned the house asked me how I had slept, and I said "OK", but didn't mention the headache. They then said that several people who slept in this room had woken up with headaches and that the story went that some maid or other had been murdered there (presumably hit on the head?) One of my brothers lost something very trivial but annoying - I think it was a bottle of hayfever pills or something like that. He looked everywhere for it, couldn't find it. One day weeks later he came home from work, went into his living room, and it was sitting in the middle of the room on the floor. My daughter (who must be the most sceptical person in the world) came out of her flat at uni to find her bike had gone from where it had been chained up at the bottom of the stairs. She assumed it had been stolen. Weeks later, she came back one day to find her bike chained up exactly where it had been before - and with dust on, as if it had been there the whole time .....

I had a very horrible experience about twenty years ago. Woke up feeling very strange and went to the Secret Garden garden centre in Crystal Palace in the hope being around some plants might make me feel better. Put the car key in my pocket and was fiddling about with it while I looked at the plants. When I went to get back into the car the key was so soft it just bent in half. I managed to get it straight enough to open the door, but it wouldn't work the ignition. Was in the days before mobiles, I had to phone my then partner from a phone box to come up with the spare key. He found me in floods of tears. I've still got the key - always been meaning to get it looked at by a physicist or something. You can see the bend mark, but if you try and bend it it's solid as a normal car key and won't bend at all. It happened to me again when I was working on a plant nursery years later and took some plants to a show for the owner - the key of the van bent, though not so badly. I had to stop keeping keys in my pocket. Also had another strange experience with (another) car key which disappeared when I came out of a supermarket in Exeter. Looked everywhere, emptied my bag,looked under the car, asked in the shop if it had been handed in, etc etc. Again, my then partner (a different one) had to come out with the spare key. The next day, I came out of my house,locked the door, went to put the front door key in my bag - and lying right on the top was my car key :-S

My daughter used to sing this in the car when she was about three. Her version was "And on the way back we curried Jack and opened a bottle of cider". :)) ETA: I didn't even know there was a dirty version :)) or maybe I have forgotten it .....

Very long moment then cos I still can't remember how it got broken though I have a vague memory that it did. It was a very large and heavy glass vase, breaking it would surely have been memorable,but clearly not :))

That's terrible. So the proposed changes to North Cross Road market are dressed up as a benefit to the area when actually they're to subsidise an apparently badly run and monitored market elsewhere. How can the permanent traders at East Street "fight changes"? Who runs the market, them or the council? I'd have more sympathy if they were Southwark residents,but you say they aren't. Who is the council Head of Department responsible for all this?

Don't know anything about servers but I guess traffic volume could be the cause if it's generally increased lately and is particularly high at certain times. I don't have the problem all the time, but when I do it's extremely bad - loading a page is like watching paint dry :-S ETA: I shall always imagine you like that now, Sean :))

At the moment, it's - Oh, I thought I had a rather nice and rather expensive vase on that table. Oh, duh, I have a vague memory of it getting broken sometime around Christmas. Can I remember how, when and where it might have got broken? No. Can I remember dreams I had when I was about four years old? Yes. AAARRRGGGHHHH :))

Dulwich Library is great and I feel bad I only use it to go and collect (lots of) garden recycling bags. Memo to self: Start using Dulwich Library for books instead of the Mind Shop at Goose Green, and use their CD section more because it's very eclectic :)
