  1. It's quite a small space, doubt there'd be a need for something huge - especially bearing neighbours (if any) in mind :)

Unless I missed it. It also has a curfew - I think 10.30pm - which isn't that great for music gigs (I was at one there recently). But obviously all that would have to be negotiated. Anyway, I'm just floating the idea at the moment, so don't get excited people :))
  3. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Police station. xxxxxxxx Yeh great idea, someone at Cheners suggested that and I'd forgotten, or in fact she suggested the stable block round the back, do you have any idea who owns the building?
  4. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There must be room for pop-up arts spaces in the > empty shops opposite Iceland. xxxxxxx Pop-up is great but I was thinking of something more permanent for East Dulwich.

Where was Mad Meg's? After my time I think!

What is the shop owner supposed to do, just shrug their shoulders and put up prices to cover the cost of the stock that's been lifted? It's not as if they're shooting the people concerned :))
  7. Lol, Keef and legalbeagle. We saw the double rainbow from the front of a bus on the way to Deptford, and at one point the end of the main bow appeared to be over Canary Wharf. Was amazing how it got brighter and brighter. I love rainbows :) Would like to have seen it over East Dulwich, so thanks for the pix!

Am I dreaming, or didn't there used (grammar) to be a gallery near that estate agent on the corner of Barry Road?

He was brilliant :)

Hooray!
  11. Huggers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Great idea. We did have something like it upstairs > at the EDT in the old days xxxxxxx Blimey, when was that? We used to run gigs Upstairs at the EDT before they chucked us out to make it The Lodge, but that must have been later? Would the space be big enough? What's happening at The Lodge at the moment, is it still a restaurant or what?
  12. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Only four trains an hour, before 8 on Saturdays. xxxxxxxx Surely that's not too bad? I prefer the bus, but if you just miss one train fifteen minutes isn't that long to wait for another one is it?
  13. As if I didn't already have enough to do with The Goose Is Out! :)) Several of us (well, five in a discussion in Chener's wonderful Bookshop this afternoon) think East Dulwich would be a perfect place for an Arts Centre, to combine exhibition space, music/film/theatre venue, meeting place etc.. Sadly in the current climate we would be highly unlikely to get Arts Council or any other public funding. So - we need a) a suitable existing building or one which could relatively easily be converted and b) a rich sponsor or sponsors :) Anyone got any suggestions?
  14. Blimey, we really need to coordinate our live music nights better so they don't all clash :)) ETA: That's four (at least) live music gigs in the East Dulwich area all on Friday 12 November - hooray! :)-D
  15. Do you have the venue yet? We would have loved to come and support this new night, but sadly it clashes with our gig at the Mag (it also clashes with a new regular night of live music at the Ivy House).
  16. Thanks KK and BrandNewGuy :) We know from the postcodes from advance internet ticket sales that virtually all our audiences come from South East London. We very rarely get someone from a North London postcode, and we presume that is because (as pointed out above) North London is already well catered for in terms of the kind of music we're putting on. For some gigs we do get people coming from as far afield as Brighton or Nottingham, but presumably that's because we're putting on someone who hasn't appeared there recently and isn't going to. The demographic in Camden is very very different from that in East Dulwich, and I can't see that even if Camden-type gigs were put on here there would be the punters for them - I could be very wrong though. I think the Goose filled a gap in this area - we started it because we were having to travel miles to see the live music we wanted to see, and it was getting to be a real drag, and I guess our audiences were in the same boat. But the amount of work involved is enormous, particularly in terms of promotion, and I don't think most people realise that. The only time it lets up is over the Summer when we don't have any gigs :)

  18. Sorry, meant to edit previous post.
  19. Sorry, having several senile moments today :)) Starting new posts instead of editing

If so, > have you considered doing a mix of seated and > standing? xxxxxxx We have half seated and half standing, and we sell 220 tickets max. ETA: If you have been to a gig where it's full you will know that we'd be pushing it to squeeze any more in, and we consider it would be unsafe. There's obviously more than 220 in the room with artists, organisers, comps etc.. We could of course get many more in if we had standing only, but a lot of our audience would not want to stand for three or four hours.
  21. Yeh sure, but it's all live music, and the impression given by ST&NLY is that there's no live music happening in ED. The more variety the better as far as I'm concerned, so very good luck to them :)
  22. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > And I say that as someone who supports you, The > goose and anyone else working hard to promote > music in South London - I blame the punters for > not supporting a dedicated live music venue. xxxxxxxxxx Well we don't have a dedicated music venue, but we regularly sell out our DHFC gigs with 200 plus in the audience, so the punters are deffo supporting us (thank you punters!) The Goose Is Out! in East Dulwich We also welcome local singers and musicians to do floorspots at our smaller venue Upstairs at the Mag (also sadly had to turn people away from there last time as we couldn't get any more in) and our headliners at the Mag on Friday 12 November are local duo Jen Doyle and Joe Fowler, who we "discovered" when they turned up to do a floorspot. All the best to you ST&NLY, more live music in the area can only be a good thing, but as Kingy says, there's quite a bit going on already. I'm not sure quite what a "dedicated" music venue would be, or where in East Dulwich would be suitable to have one? We checked out a zillion places when we were kicked out of the EDT, and I can't think of anywhere.
  23. Justin Thyme for a rainy day.

  25. Don't think it was "voted" best high street in London was it? There wasn't a poll. "Lordship Lane, the best high street in London. Or so say the residents of London SE22."
