What > is it they do that you can't do elsewhere? XXXXXX I needed proof of postage for a package I was sending. There is no other way to do that (so far as I'm aware) than to get a certificate of postage stamped by a member of Post Office staff. I also needed a form to apply for a freedom pass "for older people", AAARRRGGGHHHHH :)) though possibly it would have been downloadable off the internet, however as I was going to the PO anyway I got it there ....

  5. There isn't going to be an M&S, it's a longstanding forum rumour based on nothing at all :)

Edited to say: Several grammatical mistakes there, sorry, but can't be arsed to work out what it should all be :-$

  8. I can understand a queue on Monday morning, or Saturday, or before Christmas - but a queue right out into the street at 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon? I had to wait over twenty minutes to be served, and at one point the queue wasn't moving at all, just one customer at the counter and all the staff just sort of looking at each other. Anybody know why? Have they got a staffing problem or do they just not care?

I hope it's not breeding outside my front door....... I don't usually mind spiders, but this one was really very spooky, particularly as it was white all over, body and legs .......
  11. HEY! TheePope! That's the spider I saw the other day and posted about on this thread! Is it really called a White Death Crab Spider?
  12. Nor me. I think they add to the character of the area and are a bit of fun. Seriously :)

In my opinion of > course > > xxxxxxxxxxx Yes I agree. The buses seemed to get a lot better for a while, then they got very much worse again (edited to say, after Boris took over, though that may be coincidence). In the morning, I go to a stop before the one most convenient for me, just so that I've got more chance of a bus stopping at the stop and then being able to get on it. But I do feel sorry for the people at the stops it then sails past. I feel another letter to Tessa coming on :-$
  14. Yes I agree with Louisa and Bob, but hey, what is proposed is better than many of the other possible options and at least a unique building will be staying in ED.
  15. I like these vans! Except I thought it was one van which moved about a bit. It's a red letter day when I spot one :)

  18. It certainly was going to be compulsory at some point, but I can't remember if the government backtracked?
  19. I saw somebody reversing out of Fellbrigg Road into Northcross Road about 10am this morning and making a real pig's ear of it, but I didn't see them hit anything and afraid I couldn't give a description of either the driver or the car because as usual I was in a world of my own :-$ The only reason I noticed was because I thought it was a dangerous thing to do.
  20. Don't think so PeckhamRose. Admittedly I have a crap memory, but I thought they said it would be repainted with some sort of graffiti-washoffable paint, not that the blue paint could be washed off. If the blue paint could be washed off, what would have been the point in putting it there in the first place, or am I missing something here?
  21. You've always had to pay for parking there as far as I know, and last time I was there (ages ago admittedly) it was quite clearly signposted that you had to pay.
