Indeed. OTOH, how would you feel if councillors knowingly decided to spend money on project A which was known to be less cost-effective than project B? Money can only be spent once. It can be spent after the evaluation of a cost-benefit analysis of all the options and on the basis of what that analysis suggests. Or it can be spent on a project which is shown to be a less beneficial way of spending it.

what you say applies to average speed cameras -- is that what the police are opposing? has anyone done a study of where the Barry road cars go -- it would be pretty easy to make a list of what goes in at the Plough and what comes out at the Clock House ie with number plates -- and put some figures on where they go. To what extent is the "turn off or park" assumption just that and to what extent is it founded on research? jamesmcash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They are mainly recommended for areas where there > have been multiple deaths or serious injuries from > crashes. Why do the police think that they would not be advisable?

Do you have any information on how many are caught again?

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safety-and-security/road-safety/community-roadwatch The police need volunteers to do Community Speedwatch in Southwark. Quite a long time ago now a Speedwatch session was done on Barry Road. It showed what we all know. The police need at least one "community" person to do a session. It provides useful evidence that the problem exists and is a more humane way of demonstrating it than using KSI stats.

Have you thought of complaining to Wicks? Pallets have value. The driver may not have been following instructions. -
Recycling - Can you help?
Sally Eva replied to amylamontfitness's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unless they specifically marked recyclable, most take-away cups can't be recycled because they have a plasticised liner. https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/disposable-coffee-cups-how-big-problem-environment-landfill-recycling-incinerate-export-rubbish-a8142381.html If you buy take-away coffee or tea and the enormous amount going to waste bothers you then buy a keepcup (or similar, there are lots of different sorts). Quite a few eco-friendly cafes will give you a discount if you bring your own cup -- you are reducing their costs and (more importantly) the planet. The cafes often sell these cups too. https://uk.keepcup.com/?country=United%20Kingdom# -

Changes to your train times from Monday
Sally Eva replied to A Cinderella Line's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
yes, sorry I wasn't clear. There is shared-use pavement all the way up the New Kent Road from the Bricklayers Arms to the Elephant. The route from Peckham would go up Surrey Canal Path, across Burgess Park, along Portland Street and then onto the shared-use pavement cycle lanes to within 50ft of the roundabout. After that where you go depends on which Tube station you are aiming for. More tricky in the winter because Burgess Park is not lit and the route around is less pleasant. But in the summer it's truly enjoyable. -
I think you probably need to say what you want to sell and why you think it would be a problem to sell it cheaply. That's usually the easy way to sell things

Would it help to get further in? To the Elephant and then get on the Tube? Believe me, I am not trying to be annoying when I say that the Elephant is a short, safe bike ride from Peckham, probably two-thirds off-road through parks and on-pavement. PM me if you would like assistance to do this -
Nuisance on no 207 Lordship Lane
Sally Eva replied to ollieme12's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Am I right to think that this scaffolding is resting on the pavement? If this is so, it needs to be licensed and there should be a license attached to the poles. If this is on the pavement it is obstructing a public right of way and must be safe. Apart from the cannabis and the lack of helmets this doesn't sound safe. -
Upland Road to Green Park commute
Sally Eva replied to zoester's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi, thanks to Rendel. Yup, I am the secretary of Southwark Cyclists which is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. It is dead easy cycle from ED to Green Park and takes me about 40 minutes (I'm 65 and slow). it's a lovely summer route through parks, back streets and the segregated lanes up blackfriars and the Embankment. Safe all the way. We do Bike Taxis which are any time buddying to your destination and the Bike Train which is a group ride to central London and then on (in your case) to Green Park. Cycling may not be your thing or it may seem like a big step so there are various ways to start cycling (try https://www.cycleconfident.com/sponsors/southwark/ free) and social cycle rides to get used to peaceful cycling round the area you live in (also free). I put our social rides on the forum What's On. We do loads of stuff and it's hard to describe it all here. You can look at our website https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk PM me or text/ring me on 07842 640 207. Citizens Advice have two advice workers (funded by the council I think) whose exclusive job it is to help leaseholders dispute major works bills. There are various ways to get in touch with them. http://www.citizensadvicesouthwark.org.uk

Ayres in Nunhead sells green fondant frogs :)

0207 708 8587 gets you straight through to the wardens. they are not a perfect source of info but they might give you another number. Also what you are told on the phone has little evidential weight, print is much more useful. Try escalating your question to a complaint. That seems to get through. David Sole ([email protected]) is meant to be the intermediary with Apcoa but I have not found him responsive.

I saw a Green Woodpecker in Dulwich Park today. I've only ever seen them in Nunhead Cemetery before

Have you tried Charlton Lido? 50m. Heated and lots of space even on sunny days. Walk straight in.
