I was sent this useful factsheet on shale gas yesterday [pre]http://www.bgs.ac.uk/mineralsuk/whatsnew.html [/pre] Edit - can't get link to work doh. But a reliable source of information about it and no dodgy figures from suspect articles either.

Maybe HonaloochieB is seated comfortably in the snug, having convivial conversation with Doreen who will likely get around to complaining about Stan and his various ailments before the night is over. Or something like that.

The skies are amazing in the flat Fenlands.... And British Sugar are a bloody amazing company that employ lots of highly-skilled, local people who have diversified into several, innovative environmental and technological processes too. Its not all unskilled sugar beet harvesting. Sod imported sugar cane. Give me a real working windmill anyday and local farmers that will happily grow small amounts of ancient cereal crops specially for the miller.

Haven't been there for a while Fabricio so it may have changed but from what I recall, portion sizes were okay. I used to live in Southern India and so was pleased to find their offerings authentic. Yes, prices were probably a little more to pay than I'd expect even for the UK. Mind you there's a South Indian restaurant in Glasgow that sells a simple masala dosa for well over a tenner!

Nicholas, my point wasn't about whether any of the allegations made are true or untrue. And of course, prolific posters, you'd expect to be on here defending or denying their case. But it seems to me that this thread was started, not in the Lounge, as a well-meaning attempt to establish contact with a missing contractor by a client. It seems to me that its looking unlikely that the contractor is going to respond (of course, I could be wrong) and it now appears that the thread has taken a different turn entirely which I don't think is helping achieve the initial intention. It somehow seems wrong to continue discussing someone so personally in this manner in the Lounge (to me anyway).

It doesn't look likely that DJKQ is hurrying on here to clarify things or not as the case may be. I am surprised that none of her friends/footballers seems to have commented or at least offered to pass on the message from the OP to her or reassure her clients that DJ is alive and well on her behalf. Which leads me to think that she's possibly okay all along and has not been run over by the proverbial bus. So there doesn't seem like any good reason to have this thread, glaringly about a specific person, in the Lounge anymore where anything goes and is attracting comment from random/first-time posters who have registered just to post what on here? Things have turned nasty enough as it is, no? Personally I wish someone would please lock this thread before it gets worse. And yep, I know that by posting this I am adding to it.

Interesting article. Yes agree with SJ that Nelson's argument is too simplistic, there are drawbacks with every energy source that often don't get mentioned dependng on where one's interests lie. There's always been a need to find alternative 'unconventional' energy resources, shale gases were what helped the US all those years ago when it was claimed that 'conventional' methods of extraction were runnng out. Shale gas, coal-bed methane, deep-sea and onshore drilling, I'm all in favour of. Needless to say the 'Friends of the Stone-Age' will complain but they'll be at the start of the queue when the lights go out. I don't think much of Chris Huhn'rs 'vision' for the energy ndusrty in this country but then again what do I have in common with a multi-millionaire and his 9 'homes' and fast cars. (Oops sorry didn't mean to rant avout dear old Chris there). * takes aaaages to open on my inferior blackberry.
