A seven-year-old boy was at the centre of a London courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club whom the boy firmly believes are incapable of beating anyone
Bob I wouldn't dream of implying that you were "making" do but simply implying that I wish I'd had that option. Re cupboard. Rub down to natural wood and revarnish/stain. Change handles. Convert top cupboards to frosted glass and install hidden lighting.
AD, I agree, stay away from Granite, I'm talking about composite or engineered stone. Another option is Italian black slate. Are you installing a cooker hood extractor? If so fit to an outer wall ideally so that air is extracted outside along with humidity. As long as US fridge has an A rating then not a prob. Same as having a fridge and freezer. Besides bulk shopping means less trips.
Bob, my first property in ED came with a lovely Wickes Kitchen and a floor with a 15 degree slope so the creative recycling of what existed wasn't an option. spent a bit of time and effort creating a functional contemporary kitchen and the property sold itself within 30 mins for above asking price on strength of the kitchen. Kitchen's and bathrooms in my experience are what sells a property.
Not sure about slate. Doesn't it mark up in which case you need to seal them and then lose the nice matt feel. If you're doing a dark wood worktop why not consider an American Maple Wood floor. Looks great but like the worktop you do need to care for it. Can't comment on standalone unit without seeing it.
Stone worktop, lighting, island, range cooker, glass splashback, American fridge, dishwasher, wine cooler, Kenwood, Franke tri-flow taps and double sink, flooring, cool switches and plug sockets, art on walls, black duvet cover etc, etc
Comes down to budget at the end of the day. IKEA though not premium, the carcasses and fronts are absolutely fine and allows one to buy quality accessories, decor and appliances etc. On a budget of ?15k for a medium sized kitchen an IKEA kitchen (carcasses and fronts) will cost around ?1,200 leaving loads for the good stuff. I think Magnet are well over priced and my neighbour is still waiting 4 months down the line for Magnet to complete their kitchen.
I spoke to Gary of Southside. Apparently it was named thus to confuse outsiders so that they'd turn around and drive back down Barry Road to Nunhead. (Sorry AFN)
Alan, before you commit, check out IKEA's Abstract range. Virtually the same but cheaper, plus you can mix in glass/brushed steel cabinets to break up the wall of white. I put in a glass wall (sage green) which cost around ?750 to supply and fit 3.5m x 80cm. Much easier to maintain and clean around cooker and food prep areas. It is quite pricey so used tiles on the other walls.
I think the "Upper" refers to the area on the same side of LL as the Library. Don't get confused with Lower Upper East Side which slopes of towards Forest Hill.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if AB1 came to ED. Not to everyones taste (including mine) but then nor is Cafe Nero but somehow there are enough people in ED to patronise them and keep them afloat. Lets face it, ED continues to evolve. It was a cool Victorian suburb 100 or so years ago and then a crap one for a while until relatively recently. What can you do but vote with your feet? Okay, I guess it feels quite cathartic to have a winge about it on the EDF but it's not a Franklins or a CPT and assuming those patrons continue to get what they want then they wont be in danger of disapearing. Perhaps a longer term concern would be a saturation of watering holes with LL becoming a destination binge drinking zone from surrounding areas and turning ugly on a Friday and Saturday night. Then as the competition starts to bite prices will drop and business will have to rely on bigger volumes because of the lower margins. We'll just become another Tooting High St.
Do you really think people would choose to live in ED based on perceived celebrity inhabitants? There are a few low level celebrities that choose to live here based on other factors but REAL celebrities like DM live in West Dulwich.
Don't do wood tops! They make look pretty but you'll spend the rest of your life fretting about red wine stains, hot pan marks, cup marks etc. Then there's the annual oil and sand. Too much hassle. Have a look at Corian.
I'm not so sure. She's not quite my cup of tea but she has got talent and some heavyweight backing. The PR machine has started. She'll be big in 2008 and beyond. But then again I could be wrong.
