  1. Was the location not a commercial premises before Eddie took it on? If so, were there legit objections raised by residents when it was previously in use with regard to commercial traffic etc? Zenoria St is a tiny road but it has always existed in the heart of ED's busy shopping center. Furthermore the WH is up one end not slap bang in the middle of a row of terraced housing. I'd like to hear the other side of the argument but if it's true that it's not playing by the rules then I will not be using it either until it fulfills its obligation.
  2. Thanks for clearing that up PGC. Another worrying trend is the illegal bilateral trade in toy train sets. Have you seen what Norwegian kids are getting this Christmas?
  3. I've always suspected this was the case. I've noticed a sharp decline in the number of atoms in circulation. It's time we sent in the troops to claim the atoms that rightly belong to the democratic world.
  4. It's fantastic to hear that this story of incredible bravery is being kept alive. I'd be fascinated to know more. Is there a book on the battle? Thanks for posting, I'm sure a lot of other people will be fascinated and interested in knowing more about the sacrifices made, which makes the Dulwich Rememberance even more pertinent.
  5. Flight of the Conchords. New EP. Very Funny. Think about it Hiphopopotamus vs Rhymnenoceros If you're into it
  6. View from Dawson Heights

  8. I might be wrong but I'm guessing that there is a very small minority of veterans who do not mark Remembrance. If that is the case do we castigate them or respect their wishes whatever the reason? (Nice to see you back Louisa)
  9. Kind of. I use it for the kettle and often add water to food from the kettle during the cooking process. I don't use it for boiling pans of pasta though.
  10. I observeed the 2 min silence at home as I couldn't get out. I don't find it disrespectful that somebody didn't do likewise and chose to chat, sing or whatever, it's a very personal thing. One of the cornerstones of Remembrance is surely that people gave their lives for freedom, democracy and free will, not to have stuff imposed upon them. Play rugby or observe 2 min silence? Your right to choose. As an aside I'm not convinced that the current conflict falls into that category but agree that veterans and dead should be remembered and honoured.
  11. An alternative is this triflow Less hassle than replacing a lead water mains pipe.
  12. Didn't realise the 2 min silence was mandatory
  13. The system here in Southwark, though far from perfect is much better than what my mum has to endure in Harrow. Normal domestic waste collection is bi-weekly. Her tiny front garden is dominated by 3 recycling/dustbins. The recycling bin isn't big enough so the refuse collectors drop part of it, littering the street. There's been an increase in people flytipping their rubbish on street corners and an increase in vermin.
  14. Dulwich Embraceit
  15. Don't worry CWALD, I'll get over it .... with regular counselling and therapy ;-)
  16. I woke up sweating from a nightmare this morning. I was being chased by a gang of giant quadraped chickens. Managed to snap out of it just as one of them attempted to nibble me . . . Really enjoyed meeting everyone last night. Great crowd. Thank you Georgia for organising it and to the FHT for the light refreshments and of course Mark who's made it all possible. I can't remember too much, but my face muscles ache which is a good sign! . . . I think we'll have Lamb this Sunday . . .
  17. You weren't stupid. It's the other way around and Karma has a way of balancing things out.
  18. Growing up in the 60's and 70's war was mostly glamorised on the TV, Cinema and in various war cartoon books so the true awfulness never really hit home. Then as an Air Cadet, Remembrance weekend and the various parades were a big thing but largely because as a 14 year old it meant access to beer at the NAAFI afterwards! Reading "Birdsong" had a much bigger impact on me and IMO really sums up what Remembrance is all about. Schools should introduce it in English or History perhaps.
  19. Or, Mini grilled on a bed of heavily slashed tyres and a light drizzle of jus de gearbox
  20. Where do the Mini's go at night? If they're moved overnight then a bit of community cohesion can ensure they don't get a space the following day. Or try blocking them in by double parking, but beware the new breed of unmarked FM's.
  21. I'm not trying to defend Foxton's but this does just seem to be a Foxton bashing exercise. The real issue is the number of cars on the road which isn't going to diminish in the near future. Part of the problem is caused by property developers that split the lovely Victorian houses into multiple flats, especially in that part of ED where often the roads are just too narrow or (quite rightly) residents have created off st parking thus further reducing parking space. I like Monica's idea with a slight tweak. Use part of the Dulwich Hospital grounds to build a multi-storey underground car park. The hospital can then be part funded by drivers. Then set up an ED Congestion Zone banning all cars except residents and electric/hybrid vehicles. That way we could also easily pedestrianise parts of ED like Northcross Rd.
  22. I once looked at buying a property in that part of ED but the parking situation put me right off and that was before Foxtons. And if it's not a Foxy mini its Luddite VW or simply shoppers or people commuting. I've done it myself and often felt a tinge of guilt because if you've got children like Mouse it's a 'mare. Even where I am now there are several homes that own at least 3 cars and no driveway. Perhaps the answer is ResPark with a limit on business permits. However, I suspect that even residents suffering would prefer not to go down this route.
  23. Thanks. I'm sure I will . . . Hang on! Isn't that the place that all the fuss was about? Will I have to avoid treading on used syringes and risk being called a scab as I push through the picket line? On second thoughts I feel much better now. Run DMC.
  24. I'm not feeling well. Where is it?
