  1. My 3 year old the other day. "Mum, can I have a ham sandwich? With ham in it."
  2. I'm sure they do. I've seen their image's on the inside of a Marmite lid, so they must exist. Edited for non existent spelling
  3. The person who invented the wheel ditto invented fire ditto sliced bread
  4. HAL9000, The Herne was designed with families in mind that wanted decent food, beer and a safer pub environment. It has a fairly good playground, soft ground, grassy area and plenty of outside seating. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself and how many families enjoy the pub as an area to socialise in a relaxed, mixed environment, where to be honest people are keeping a look out for other peoples kids as well as their own. Last Sat was a rare opportunity to introduce partners who're often at home with the kids as well as meet up with other parents, non-parents and let the kids play together and have a relaxed beer over an hour or two. Personally my young boys prefer Friday nights at the EDT. It's true Georgia, you'll never please everyone but thanks for what is often a thankless task much appreciated by most.
  5. Glad I went. Nice to meet a few more EDF parents and sprogs, plus the child free ones. Playground was dry and the kids had fun.
  6. Perhaps an Italian on a different theme like a Pescatori might be more interesting before we get pizza and pasta overload.
  7. * new improved non-offensive and recycled Snorky * ??
  8. Master Po: Close your eyes. What do you hear? Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds. Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat? Caine: No. RIP
  9. Maybe the only way is to adopt Schr?dinger's cat theory where there is equal probability of the sentenced prisoner being alive or dead.
  10. I'm not convinced about the death penalty. In some ways I think it lets the perpetrators off the hook too easily. Once they're dead it's not like they're feeling remorseful or suffering. And let's face it I don't think the death penalty has ever really been an effective deterrent but merely a way of satisfying public opinion and in some cases people related to the victim(s). I'd much rather that life meant life and that guilty murderers (and rapists, paedo's etc) had a much tougher time inside and suffered from a complete loss of freedom and the ability to feel any satisfaction each day for the rest of their miserable lives. But then I'm sure that there's probably a thorny human rights issue there.
  11. So are you saying that if a person who just enjoys good food (expensive or not) can cook a little, though not classically trained, enjoys a tipple, but wine knowledge limited to personal experience and watching Clarke and May, and not backed by media money can't have a valid opinion?
  12. If it had stuck to its core business it'd probably gone out of business years ago. Trouble was that Southside Lighting, Plough DIY and Plough Electrics kind've crossed over a bit.
  13. Surprised we don't have a Pawn shop on the lane these days. I said pawn.
  14. I'd have to disagree with that. Not anybody can do Brain Surgery but most people can pass a valid opinion on a restaurant. There are some food bloggers that have a similar taste to mine and appear fairly consistent and trustworthy. I take their views into account but wouldn't necessarily rush out to an establishment nor blank it solely on their opinion.
  15. Dulwich Heights EDO ;)
  16. I'm always slightly bemused at the cost of women's haircuts. Is it like face cream? The more you pay the better it must be? I can understand a little more expensive than men's, but I can normally get 3 or 4 visits for the cost of one by Mrs LL.
  17. EDOldie have you tried their Strawberries poached in Beaujolais with clotted cream? Divine!
  18. Have a blinder Piers.
  19. Happy Birthday LadyG. Hope you have a special day that somehow blurs into the weekend. x
  20. Thank you all. And a very big birthday hug to Anna plus what he said and she said x
  21. I'm a big fan of Sea Cow but recently tried Ken's on Half Moon Lane (North Dulwich) and was very impressed with freshness, quality and price. Haven't got round to trying Jolly Bee yet but it does smell good every time I wander past.
  22. You'll need to use a lens with a longer focal length than 55mm. The shorter the focal length the more distortion of perspective. You can do some quick transformation work to rectify this in Photoshop but presumably you want to keep it simple. I'm assuming that you're shooting indoors (home / gallery?) so it'll depend on how far back from the painting you can stand. You'll also need to use a tripod and light the painting without using flash. I don't know Canon lenses (I'm a Nikon user) but I'd look for something inexpensive like the Canon EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 III Lens. It's around ?200 (very slow lens) and should give you enough flexibility. Good luck and feel free to PM me.
  23. not nice
  24. Another (slightly cheaper) option is to look at some of the huge farmhouses that are broken down into three separate living accommodations with 4-5 bedrooms each. You share the swimming pool but everything else is as if it were your own and each entrance is on a different side of the building. Pienza is a picture book area of Tuscany near the thermal springs.
