  1. I work at the top of the Citigroup building in Canary Wharf - we frequently get enveloped by low cloud, and it's horrible! The other day the NW was a thick wall of grey, but the SE had thick dark grey fingers of cloud much lower than we were - probably the day you took this. Quite often, the precipitation from minor localised showers is also lower than we are.
  2. I gave up for five years, and then started smoking again. It happened soooo easily... please stay strong! I have given up again for just over 3 years, and it's a lot easier now. In my humble opinion, it's a case of re-educating your brain as to what is fun and a reward.
  3. Aha - sorry I've seen the photo now - yes that's the one! Just paranoid as previously I was following my SatNav in Brixton and the layout had changed - and I became ?120 poorer :'( And yes I know it was my responsibility to pay attention to the correct signage on the road... ... and I haven't seen any signs about buses but I'm sure they do exist and have special privileges. Oooh my first tipsy posting, thank goodness for the edit funtion!
  4. It didn't say that though - just your standard 'no right turn' graphic - which was next to a turning off to the left.
  5. I turned right into East Dulwich Grove from Lordship Lane today (which I'm sure the 37 does), but as I did I noticed a 'no right turn' sign further up on the left. Presumably this applies to East Dulwich Grove? If so, how come the buses are allowed to?
  6. On a Friday or Saturday morning IF it's not raining... - One waiter's Friend - A slice of chicken, ham and apricot pie from borough market, plus some general food sampling as you go round - Beer or Wine, as you fancy - The (free) outdoor tables on the Thames side of Somerset House, or a train from London Bridge to Greenwich - stroll to the park, eat and walk it off with a nice view Generally... - If you can fit it in, I find the Hayward Gallery on South Bank always has a good exhibition in the summer months - they normally sound pretentious, but instead are incredibly good fun. Pyscho Buildings a few years back was amazing. - The Barbican has an exhibition called Surreal House that's meant to be very good - Tate Modern has a good photography exhibition (Exposed) - haven't seen it but heard good reviews - Museum of London has had a refit on the lower levels - I was invited to the preview and only went to see the piece I worked on (I wasn't impressed with the museum before), but was suprised how brilliant the lower floor is now (I can comfortably recommend it) - Saatchi's place in South Ken is free, fun and a good place for window shopping :))
  7. I am now convinced Autumn is here - along with my ED observations, on a drive down south yesterday [apologies I'm referencing non-ETD for a moment ;-)] I noticed all the fields have already been harvested, the blackberries are ripe, and the horses have started to get their fluffy winter coats.
  8. My summer flowers have given up, I feel like Autumn is already here. The trees in the park look like they're already on the turn. The baby pigeons are now cute and like mini-pigeons rather than alien monsters, although the mother still tries to sit on them at night, hilarious! She can barely cover one, let alone two. I am hoping to see the meteor shower this evening...
  9. Rosie - thanks, I shall also make a note of your suggestion, looks fab!
  10. I've been to Sicily and personally found it to be a little over-rated, but perhaps other people have had better experiences. Of all the "Sun 'n' fun" holidays I've had, I have to say the one in Majorca was the best - I think because the villa was HUGE for the price and had a private pool. Majorcan villas are suprisingly well-priced as compared to a hotel elsewhere - you could take a look at James Villa's website for some last-minute bargains. The north of the island tends to be a bit nicer.
  11. Sportbilly, I feel the same way - I'd love to open a funky independent restaurant in Dulwich, but sadly lack the stomach and talent. I turned purple and nearly fell into a dead faint just trying to cook spaghetti vongole at lunch!
  12. He's managed to get his own bloody CIF thread, entitled 'Too Ugly for TV?' http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/jul/29/paul-yarrow-tv-open-thread
  13. Seriously... I think there was a whole colony living in that place. Urgh. Worse than seeing the mouse overtake us as it ran back... oh I can barely write it.... we had cooked oven chips (why don't I eat those anymore?), and after eating dinner I went back to wash up the baking tray and there were MOUSE FOOTPRINTS AND FUR PRINTS in the grease on the baking tray. Aaaaaarrgh. Oh. [Rocks gently in the corner]. Sorry I'm OK now. That's how bold they are! I'd say it's very likely the building work is what's triggered your current problem.
  14. I really, really hate them. I used to live in Hackney and we were plagued by them, despite living on the 3rd floor. I actually became a bit obsessed because for ages my (then) boyfriend thought I was imagining them. They had NO FEAR at all. It turned out they were coming in up the back of the cooker (I knew this because I hid and spied on them... yep). They used to sit there watching TV behind us aaaaaargh!! Don't bother with humane traps. We freed a mouse on London Fields, and as we were strolling back the very same mouse overtook us as it ran back to the house. Another time, we came back from a 2 week holiday to find a dessicated mouse in the 'humane' trap.
  15. Yes, I noticed one egg hatched much sooner than the other, and that bird is much bigger and always smothering the smaller one. Also, the babysitting parent frequently flys off and leaves them - I know the chicks aren't pretty but I do worry for them with all the crows about, and they shiver dreadfully.
  16. The finished product. Again, not sure if it's supposed to look like this, but all I know is it was DELICIOUS, and the rice and peas went down a treat as well. Thanks everyone for the help! I'm going to have the leftovers with noodles tomorrow. Now, just need to find out how to remove the burnt on sugar from my roasting dish....
  17. "... as her pigeon dies on a humid and grey Dulwich mornin', another little baby pigeon is born In the ghetto..." (sorry Elvis)
  18. Before: It's been marinating since last night, I think we made a mistake in adding the honey last night after putting on the marinade (it just 'washed' the jerk spice off and we had to pat it all back on). Not sure if this is how it's supposed to look... ... now checking out rice 'n' peas recipes.
  19. This is what pigeon babies look like (warning: not cute)
  20. What are you feeding them :)I tried moving mine again, the ungrateful buggers still haven't touched it them.
  21. Oooh hoo hoo tonight is the night of marinade... gearing up for a jerk 'n' twitch fest on Tuesday. Attempting DJKillaQueen's recipe first, I may graduate to matsuken's when I get more advanced!
  22. Thanks Minkey! The pigeon babies have hatched... they're not very attractive... scaly grey with sparse yellow feathers and large beaks. They are still being sat on all day every day (I'm sure there's a technical term for this :-$), I'm suprised they don't suffocate.
  23. I (white female in a average hatchback) got pulled over in the New Forest of all places, because my plate had beeped a passing police car with a 'not taxed' message (although I was taxed). The checked the disk, apologised and told me to move on.
