  1. For the last couple of days, there's been a shirtless guy riding at top speed in the roads around peckham rye park on a blue quad bike, often with one or more heavy duty motorbikes in tow. I think they've been racing up and down in the early hours of the morning, based on the noise that keeps waking me up. I'm assuming these must be a figment of my imagination and that I'm inventing 80s movie scenarios, as I have no idea how they've escaped the legions of police cars in the area. Has anyone else seen them?
  2. After years of living in London, I've finally seen some minor celebrities... Last Saturday, James Nesbitt was having lunch in The Palmerston (which, by the way is consistently awesome, but a bit pricey - don't listen to whinging reviews). Tonight, the guy who played Bernard in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' was on the table next to me in Dulwich Tandoori. Seemed really nice. I've also seen Timothy Spall on a couple of occasions - once in The Palmerston, once in Pizza Express Dulwich Village. Hurrah!
  3. My mother (who lives in Winchester) always feeds the birds, and it seems blackbirds are big fans of sultanas. My flat has a roomy balcony (I'm on the 4th floor) and so I put sultanas, but only a little robin is brave enough to come and get them. I've put out a peanut feeder as well but there's no interest at all. Does anyone know if birds will eat from feeders on balconies (as opposed to gardens)?
  4. Peckham Rye is absolute carnage. The 343 slid all over the road (actually quite terrifying to watch) and then came to a halt, causing the traffic to skate around it - since the heavy snowfall this afternoon the road has become thick with black ice. Traffic has been backed up for the last hour or so - I took this earlier and it's only getting worse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck3hYSyzgfw Sorry for the Blair Witch-esque video!
  5. Yep... can't beat a good BBQ. It's why garden beats balcony (my other half isn't convinced... but he's french and I don't think they 'get' the appeal of a BBQ). And Brum... the little morsels were my attempt at 'cutting back on calories' (you know, after having eaten a slab of puff pastry covered in cheese, it makes all the difference... er, honest).
  6. Hi, here's one I took back in summer... ah happy days. OK technically not my window but it's still my 'view'...
  7. Richfish, I totally agree - even if they used double-deckers for rush hours and then used smaller buses in the day it would make sense. It's absolutely packed on Sundays too. I frequently use buses, but can say that the 78 in rush hour is easily the most panic-inducing route.
  8. Dulwich Tandoori does have some nice alternative dishes - the mutton was suprisingly good, as was the pumpkin bhaji (sp?). I haven't tried it's standard dishes, but I did think the dishes we had were as good, if not better, than Tandoori nights. My boyfriend loves that place, but I think it's a bit over-rated (and cramped).
  9. AuraCaught, I imagine I live in the same building as you (I can see what you've done there) and yes I've heard him from time to time. Did you also hear the man singing classical music scales at the weekend during summer?
