I'm jealous. I've been hearing the woodpecker for weeks but not caught a glimpse of it. Mind you, I did see a crow imitating the sound which was very funny.

Took my daughter to a physio session at Kings today. Very impressed. In the swanky Jubilee Wing - lovely, very accommodating receptionist and a hunky physio (if I were 20 year's younger!) who really knew his onions. From GP to first session, only took four weeks.

I lost my raybans about 20 years ago on Southend beach. If anyone is paddling there this summer and finds them, I would love them back. Am currently sporting a pair of sunglasses bought on Rye Lane about six years ago for a fiver.

jrussel, I have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs but I never go to gyms. I walk too much, though - should we be banning that?

My one and only perk when I was in the MOD many moons ago, was a trip in a Westland from Battersea up to the mouth of the Thames. It was fab.

I have ridden at Dulwich and would say that the tuition is very good. Not sure what it is like for a beginner but I was really put through my paces in the school with a very good instructress. Have ridden in Dulwich Park but it is a bit dull. Also ridden at Mount Mascal. I thought it had too many pupils/horses in the ring (this was on a Saturday) and was overall quite chaotic, though to be fair, the kids seemed to be enjoying it. I actually went for a hack in the woods which was lovely, but the friends who took me weren't in my opinion up to hacking and should have been encouraged to have more indoor lessons by the ride leader. Huggers, I used to ride at Vauxhall but had to stop when they introduced riding only for disabled pupils. Has this changed now?

Thought it might be interesting to share observations as Spring gets underway. I go to Peckham Rye most days and in the last week have seen nature at its worst and sweetest: a) Witnessed the gang rape of a duck by 8 drakes. Really horrid - they hemmed her in and took turns. b) This morning watched a male pigeon patiently collect twigs one by one and take them to his missus building a nest in the corner of the pagoda.

I tried out the open air gym equipment in Peckham Rye last week. I know there's a fence round it but it was irresistible.
