  1. Unworthy Anna. I rather think like the rest of use, H is in awe of your imminent status acquired after years of slog.
  2. Go on then ruffers, enlighten us.
  3. Malheuresement, Nunhead aussi: The Frog on the Green.
  4. Well my afternoon was jollied by seeing a red-caped crusader riding a chopper through Peckham Rye.
  5. Brendan, here's a link for you that might be interesting http://www.southafricawargraves.org/lists/unitedkingdom.htm Q Why do some memorials have the dates 1914 ? 1919 or 1921 inscribed upon them? A On November 11th 1918 the Armistice was signed and for many this signalled the end of four long years of conflict. However, the armistice only marked a temporary cessation of hostilities and people in many communities feared that fighting might break out again. Their minds were finally set to rest with the signing of the Peace Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919. They could now consider the war officially over and it is for this reason that they placed the date 1919 on the memorials. The date 1921 appears less often but it marked the official end of the war for the United States. Consequently, some communities chose to use this date as the end date on their war memorial. [lost the source website, sorry]
  6. Chalk is harmless and is porous. Some of the finest counties in the land are built on it!
  7. Not just the Mrs Banks types, DC - not so very long ago, you wouldn't have been able to vote as you are not a property owner! I accept that it's probably not enforcable, maybe we just need to teach history better.
  8. Do you not think DC that rather than introduce proportional representation there should be compulsory voting? Universal suffrage took quite a time to achieve and it grieves me that some people are so wishywashy about elections.
  9. Maybe we should rename TLS Kim?
  10. I noticed it but wasn't public spirited enough to report it. I did wonder if the water works building site on Homestall Rd had anything to do with it.
  11. Oh baby, it's a wild world?
  12. I am a natural Tory but that's a wasted vote round here, so I usually go Lib Dem or Green depending how I feel on the day.
  13. I'm talking about The Wire.
  14. Help me out here guys. I watched 10 mins of the first episode and switched off. Persuade me I need to persevere.
  15. I used to work at the MOD and was regularly evacuated for bomb threats. We had to congregate in a nearby churchyard until someone (I worked for boffins - v. clever chaps) pointed out that all a terrorist had to do was trigger an evacuation and bomb the churchyard. All subsequent evacuations meant we had to leave the vicinity for three hours before we could return - what larks. Back on topic, was I the only one to shed a tear last night at the show of solidarity in NI?
  16. Excuse me, don't want to start a war or nuffink, but I baggsied Stephen Fry on this forum a long, long time ago. Now back off, he's mine.
  17. turn round three times while holding your finger to your nose and pray to St Anthony. Failsafe.
  18. Bayberry, I think, started out as upmarket deli but quickly descended into a bit of everything (hot pies, nappies, etc). They lost their target market and sold pretty substandard fresh veg/fruit at outrageous prices. Lovely chap but no business nous.
  19. Maybe the baffles have been removed which would make it illegal. Report to the police.
  20. I don't think HonB is Garth at all. More this kind of geezer http://www.benzilla.com/uploads/2007/09/andy_capp.jpg
  21. I ruddy well can't believe it. I couldn't be bothered to listen to it today!
  22. Absolutely nothing. It was an aside brought on by all those other posters.
  23. As an aside, Andrew Rutherford who did the "Labour isn't working" ad, lives in Dulwich. http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Politics/Pix/pictures/2001/03/10/pub_notworking.gif
