  1. Wherever shall I find you lot during the looming blackout? What viable alternatives exists for one to post during what promises to be a bumper news cycle? I did look in on our pitiful Camberwell Forum and was knocked down by a tumble weed.
  2. How very odd it was. A story about the postal strike.
  3. Dear Torben, don't talk such sense please. The ending of the SLL is because Boris supports North London and wants to see South London rot. That's the party line and we must not let facts blind us. By the way, does Jo Brand use the SLL? Marvellous!
  4. And it is important to note, there are three routes for Bakerloo South. The third, and least favourite which is likely to fall off the map, would send it to Camberwell Green and south to East Dulwich. The two most popular will stop at Burgess Park, Peckham Rye and on to Lewisham. It's all part of making Peckham a strategic interchange. Dear people, this will test your support of Peckham. As the master plan is that everyone else will have to make a strategic change on their journeys to Central London. The plan shows it serves more travellers best.
  5. Boris is not suggesting anything that Ken didn't suggest, in terms of the Bakerloo Line. Boris, like Ken, is suggesting that we study it and consider it for post 2020, so perhaps completed by 2025 or 2030. That is the exact same plan as Ken. But let's not miss an opportunity to suggest it proves he's bonkers and callous. The plan, and I'm sure you all read it and not just the (free) Evening Standard headlines, considers Peckham Rye a strategic interchange. Of course, it will pit Camberwell and East Dulwich against Peckham, but that's a blockbust film just warming up. Buy your tickets now!
  6. Indeed - responsibility. By the banks, and those taking out the loans. We're all got into this together.
  7. Oh marvelous Woof - go to this web page, enter your address, then refine the estimate if it is too low for your well being.
  8. Apparently the website of choice right now is zoopla, for the mortgage industry use it to find real values of houses. It's quite interesting, and don't forget you can refine their estimate. What dear Alan fails to mention is the cluster of expensive properties in Camberwell are sheltered from the rot that is the main bit of Camberwell. Most of us avoid it at all costs. And the other cluster is near Myatts Fields, which is a community desperately trying to call itself 'east Kennington' or Oval or 'anything but Camberwell'. Do zoopla your own house value, it's marvelous!
  9. The old boy sounded Prime Ministerial. My blue vote will matter little, due to Harriet's strong base, but I shall vote Conservative nonetheless. I do realise how the words 'personal responsibility' give great trouble to many here and I shall make an effort to be sympathetic.
  10. I found the discussion on Newsnight quite interesting. Those opposed to its use, still said 'Paki' in the discussion, as we are doing here. Then as backup, they used 'the N word' as comparison, but no one will even speak that word, opting for the phrase 'the N word'. So obviously 'Paki' is not quite as bad as 'the N word' - a word obviously in a the worst category, so bad we dare not speak its name.
  11. Indeed it is Torben, and it will set neighbourhood against neighbourhood! The idea of 'South London' being deprived is a bit misleading, too. Where most of these stations sit used to be Surrey, all while the original 'London' (south being Charing Cross and a bit on the other side) were being taken care of, as was right. Since London has creeped south, technology made tubes difficult, so suburban trains were the solution. Although I understand tunnelling in the clay is no longer the issue. One could propose trams? Oh that's right, Eileen fought tooth and nail against them in her last battle.
  12. I'm terribly sorry for offending a sandperson. It goes against my constitution. Now we finally see the true debate, one Eileen fears, for good reason. You cannot have both lines. It is not possible. The result will inevitably be neighbourhood wars, as evidenced on this very website. 'TfL v South London' is not accurate. 'Labour v Boris' is telling, but not the main event. It is 'SLL v ELL'. The entertainment value alone is worth investing in a front row seat.
  13. Oh my dear Apple, of course one forgives you! Boris seems a reasonable chap. Don your pajamas, turn up to his Question Time and demand your 11 minute, no-change journey. You live in East Dulwich for God's sake, you deserve it. Let's face it, those thousands living on stations to be improved by the ELL, well they do live on the wrong side of the tracks. I do love a good Question Time. I shall bring gourmet popcorn.
  14. The East London Line will go to Clapham High Street and Clapham Junction. Every 10 minutes.
  15. Exactly and well put njc97. This about providing more people, with more choice. Not gutting South London transport. But that doesn't fit with the many agendas at work here. There is no way to have both.
  16. Nearly dead dear Woof, but sadly still here to diss dear Eileen. I fear many forget that the ELL includes Phase 2, which I would think far preferable than the SLL. It appears this is all about not making one change on the same platform. Odd.
  17. Travel away for extended rest and one returns to find dear Eileen whipping up another war. As usual, she doesn't allow all the facts to interfere with her David v Goliath billing. For those who think there has been a back room deal to cheat South London on transport need to hear another side of the tale. The ELL is a gift far more worth having. From the South London Press.
  18. If solving the world's hunger and related ills was as easy as cutting space funding and using it to buy rice, I would be all for it. Sadly, we all know that is an ill thought out solution, which would not work.
  19. Oh my, first the Buckle, now this. Our Alan will be beside himself with grief.
  20. Well I would add that the elderly seem somehow immune to swine flu and, for the first time in recent memory, it is cool to be old! Otherwise, The Telegraph had an interesting, hopeful article about getting around this ill conceived 50% tax rate. It is rubbish and will not accomplish anything, instead making things worse. Also, NOTW speaks to the young chap who procured cocaine and prostitutes for the young royals. Who says the Royal Family do not spawn a cottage industry of small businesses?
  21. Indeed and a giant leap. It is still too early to say how we've advanced from it. In the great span of time, a few decades is nothing. We've made it to space and from there the universe is our oyster. And in between we've made a number of further advancements to planets.
  22. I think swine flu is simply wonderful. In a land where average workers take something like 15 sick days on average per year, in addition to about 40 public holidays and leave, it gives the opportunity for an additional two weeks or more to stay away from the office, no questions asked! Marvellous!
  23. Oh dear Lord. Have you been diagnosed? How did I miss this? Do rest.
