  1. Alan I like it, I'm warming to you:)-D Jon
  2. So that's Alan Dale in the Wind Up category then:)-D
  3. Jeremy As someone who is fairly new to these Internet Forums, I?ve learned a bit over the last 24 hours. ? People do not read each other?s postings properly (I count myself as guilty here). We just skim read them and make up our minds about what that person is saying. We are influenced by what everybody else is saying on the forum about a particular posting and comment on that other posting without having actually read it properly. (I realise that most people on this forum wouldn't condone smashing any car up, the point I was trying to make was that we should not go around calling people we have never met ?cocks? and ?flash gits? ? and he really isn?t by the way) ? I think that some people make postings just to wind each other up (Fair dos, I?m doing it in the office at the moment with some Aussies over the Rugby ? and will probably live to regret it!) ? People feel a little braver behind a keyboard ? I assume most people would never dream of using words like ?cock? and ?flash git? to total strangers in a pub. Similarly, I myself feel quite at liberty to doubt the parentage of other drivers whilst I am behind the wheel of my unassuming little motor. ? These forums allow us to dehumanise situations and we forget that the object of the discussion is a human being. Maybe it?s someone who left school after O Levels, worked hard for years building up a local business employing local people, and now feels able to enjoy the fruits of his labour in whatever way he feels without actually harming anybody. Maybe it?s not. So, Jeremy, the forum reflects life. We don?t listen to each other, we wind each other up, we feel brave when we don?t have to face people and we forget that guy opposite us on the train in Dulwich wearing a Man Utd shirt is also a human being. My word it?s 10.30 and I need to get on with some work Jon :)-D
  4. Mockney I was about to say I've always fancied a Reliant Robin like our near neighbour Del Boy - until I saw that it was sold for ?44,000 recently. That would open such a can of worms wouldn't it, don't think I'll bother :) Have to park it in my living room I suppose.
  5. *Bob* - no as it happens I don't. I'm off though, this is not a nice place. I think this could be a fantastic forum, its just that people can hide behind their keyboards and say these truly awful things without thinking. That poor guy has had his car damaged quite badly. How he spends his money is up to him. I myself have "wasted" an awful lot of money on a quite nice Home Entertainment system, if the likes of *Bob* & co were to come round for a beer and see it, would they say, "cock", "flash git" or whatever. A much nicer and more enlightened reaction would be, hey that's nice, I might try and save up for that. Perhaps that's just me.
  6. I know people are entitled to make their point, but... Is it the considered view of the majority on the forum that owners of, say, a 2 year old Porsche are "flash gits" and "cocks"? If so I am embarassed to have spent much of the last year here. Let's just assume for a moment that its my Porsche that got vandalised, would *Bob*, Keef and Maurice like to make themselves known and we can talk about it?
  7. Sean - yes I got that bit (and can understand why he says that) its the "flash git" bit I thought was totally outrageous. MP - yes he is entitled to make his point - doesn't make very good reading though. I was so disappointed to read those 2 original comments, I thought this was an enlightened house. Anyway, let's move on.
  8. "Posted by: Keef Yesterday, 02:18PM you need to be really pi$$ed off with the flash git who owns it." Posted by: Maurice Yesterday, 04:49PM "Poor thieves and vandals. I blame the car owners." My God I didn't know this forum had such vicious and unthinking contributors. The "Flash git" happens to be a nice quiet unassuming guy who seems to believe in all the right things. Why should he be to blame? Of course Keef & Maurice could be the proud possessors of a very dry sense of irony and if this is the case then I most humbly apologies. If not, then shame on you two.
  9. "I did a historial and social research element for my degree and chose to research the emergence of the High Street and how it reflected the population from the 1800 - around 1960s - I chose LL as it was an example how the Industrial Revolution affected Dulwich." Sounds very interesting - do you have copies available? I'd certainly be interested Thanks Jon
  10. Went a few years ago and yes the view was pretty amazing. Trouble is as somebody mentioned above, there is no lift and you walk up the stairs. They are very narrow and seem to go on forever - a bit like the Monument but longer. My abiding memory however is the pigeons - dead pigeon remains and pigeon "mess" everywhere. Quite put me off. Maybe they've cleared it all up by now. As I recall I just turned up and was shown round a hall inside whilst waiting our turn to go up. Can I just say that I love the turn of phrase "promoted to glory" on the Booths' statue outside? Jon
