  1. mine is not big on sandwiches and i like her to have hot food fo lunch, so got a flask. if there's something fresh i've made the night before i heat it up in the morning, if not i just defrost something i've cooked before that were frozen in her portions and it's easy to heat up in the morning, in a flask that will stay warm until lunch time. she's not a great eater so i feel much better that she has a hot meal for lunch: spag bol, chilli con carne, riche with veg or s, sausages. i know my friend's boy complained that he wants sandwiches because that's what everyone else is eating and didn't want to take flask in, but we've been lucky that another girl in her class (there may be more but she's the only one i know) also brings a flask so mine is happy with hers. and a note on nuts: no nut products of any kind are allowed in our school, including pesto as some kids have a very strong reaction to them.
  2. I'd like to visit it and if I like it sign up my son hopefully from Sept 2013. Tried to google it but only the address comes up and no phone number. Any others around for school hours only besides Buds? thanks!
  3. we usually go to Wagamama's, i don't know if this is considered special, at the end of Selfridges, it's just so well catered for kids with kids menu, changing facilities and my very fussy 4 year old eats everything there: starter, main and desert! lots of space, opens from 12 and food is served very quickly.
  4. my new find is a Churchill's theatre in bromley, easy to get to, nice and new. bought tickets to the Gruffalo's child, Beauty and the Beast and may go to Peter Pan at Christmas time as well. went to see the kids version of the Sleeping beauty there as well, the girls 3 and 4 years liked it, just a little long for them but they also enjoyed a train trip there from Herne Hill.
  5. don't even think about it, Lollibop is just dreadful, badly organised with not enough things for thousands of kids that turn up, like 1 trampoline or 3 circus jumping stations, queues were for an 1-2 hours. There was Peppa Pig last time walking around in a fenced enclosure probably 5 x 5 m with all the kids outside that fence, That was it. they also had Charlie and Lola performance but we didn't go there as our daughter was not happy and we just wanted to get out of there asap. Food was not good, and had to queue for that too for at least half hour. we decided to write down the cost of 3 tickets and went to a playground right outside the gates where our daughter finally had a fantastic time and that was for free. never again.
  6. this would be a great place to visit when he's better, a long drive though. real big trains you can climb to and not many people there at all, it's off the beaten track. something to look forward to. hopefully he'll be better soon and can visit it. http://www.steam-museum.org.uk
  7. thanks a lot, great ideas, now just need to get out and shop
  8. hi, need to buy christmas pressies for hubby's niece and I can't think what to get her. she just had her birthday and her mum has run out of ideas now. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  9. We also just used the pram sheet there which was washed regularly so that cocoon would stay clean. My baby is out of it already, so I have one to sell if you're interested, red one, perfect condition.
  10. I think you'll be still the first one to be considered for 4+ if you haven't got a place yet, it's first come, first serve. And places do come up because people changed their mind and because many girls leave by 4 as past this age there are more boys there than girls. We have just taken our girl off the waiting list for the next year, she'll continue in Herne hill, so here's one place freed up. However, most people are not that organised I think and you'll probably only have a better idea after the new year when other schools allocate their spaces. Good luck, our little one is now on their waiting list, so we do hope he'll get in at 2, but yes, no guarantee.
  11. i don't think i can manage running in the evenings, too tired and it's too dark... anyone to try on the weekends in the morning? saturdays about 9:15 dulwich park? i used to do 10k under an hour, but that's been before 2 kids appeared long long time ago, so will probably take a while to get up to speed. now that the little one will be 6 months old need to start getting in shape. four of us used to run together on sat mornings in Hyde park and even after boozy nights at least one buddy will appear and if all four showed up it was good fun.
  12. The only check for the child you get from a doctor in this country is at 6 weeks (by a GP), that's it, the rest is with HV, which as pointed above I also found completely pointless (2 year check is also with HV only). i am also not from the UK and as kids we were checked regularly by all sorts of doctors. And no, I don't agree that the parent will notice if something is wrong anyway, we are not doctors. One of my friend at 2 years noticed that her son was a bit struggling to watch TV, took to the doctor, turned out he had a lazy eye and could have lost his sight in one eye completely, good she noticed, normally they it gets noticed only at 4, when kids go to school, by which time in this particular case it would have been too late. Something like this would have been discovered back home as a child is seen by an ophthalmologist regularly (among other specialists). And there are few examples like this... We took our daughter to a private pediatrician after 1 year, just to make sure everything is ok and he said he gets a lot of parents like us.
  13. couldnt' make it on Thursday, but would still love to meet up. If at all possible is there a place that will have something to do for a 3 year old (2 weeks of half term so have to take her along)? Is the playgroup at St. Faith church at Red Post Hill still running on fridays (9:30 - 11: 30)? Otherwise will try to bring her along wherever is agreed and see how it goes
  14. hi all, my little boy was boy in June, so I'm also in a summer club. would love to meet with you guys, I'm also free in the mornings as need to pick up my daughter before 12. Anything open from 9:30 ish around Lordship lane possibly? Otherwise I'm also happy to host. Thursday is great for me too.
  15. to answer Ruth's question: we have Sport model, but I bought Dash model for the second seat that reclines and it fits Sport just fine.
  16. i wrote a long message and lost it! can't be bothered writing it again, but it was ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL, too many people and not enough things to entertain them, massive waste of money. for some of our friends it took 2 h to queue for some events and for food too!
  17. we got a sony one as well as posted above, 5 h battery life was a key factor. was great, also on a 13 h flight with a 2.5 year old.
  18. didnt have any pain as stopped gradually after 1 yeaer, down to 2 feeds for few weeks, then only 1 in the morning for a while, probably a couple of weeks and that was it. one of them felt larger for a while, guess more milk was left in there, but gradually it dissolved and they both became similar size.
  19. I have a cleaner now once a week and i'm working full time. expecting number 2 any time now and once my relatives would be gone after 2 months intend to have a cleaner twice a week. i agree to previous posts that if you're at home there'll be more mess! haven't asked my hubby though if he will agree!
  20. Probably not very helpful but i have no faith in HVs and this is not because they are overloaded. One of them wrote "Olbas"(oil) and "Menthol" for me as an advice to use as I and the baby had a bad cold, both words spelled with mistakes. Another one weighteed well over 100 kg, how can she be called an HV? the third one when I asked how to get my child off thumb sucking said "I thumb sucked until 15 years old myself" and then talking to my daughter "Tasty, isn't it?" What sort of opinion am I supposed to have about HVs after encounters like that? thankfully my daughter was healthy so I just went for occasional weight check-up and once I was confident she was fine I stopped going. I then took my daughter to a private paediatrician, nothing wrong with her, but just to make sure that she was fine since under NHS she wasn't seen by a doctor except for 6 week check. Back where I'm from babies are seen by a variety of doctors regularly: neurologist, ophtalmologist, cardiologist, besides the paediatricians of course. I find it unbelievable that kids are only seen by nurses here, obviously due to constraints on the system but they simply don't have the necessary knowledge.
  21. we bought ours at kiddicare, don't remember how much it was but pretty cheap: one for maclaren and one for car seat, we use it all the time for the planes, just to ensure it comes out nice and clean.
  22. electric one for sure, had avent and it was great
  23. Once we got a baby I told my hubby to check whether he had CP since his mum did not remember. The cost of the test was pretty steep, more than ?100 privately, but at least we knew that he was fine. My friend who knew she certainly didn't have CP got herself vacinated once she had the baby so at least she is not worried now if the little one will get it. Now my daughter got it recently from the nursery of course, it was pretty horrid, back and nappy area especially but the worst only lasted a day or two with fever, she was then in a good mood again although scratchy. The one that I recommend is a foam from boots, don't remember how it is called, but it is specifically for CP and they don't have it in pharmacies in ED. It was much easier to apply than the cream. piriton of course and a bath every day with baking soda as already suggested. Our GP would not see kids with CP (rightly so, you don't want to infect everyone around) for 2 weeks, just a warning, this wasn't a big deal since we were dealing with it just fine. But she got congectivitus as a side effect and GP just wrote me a prescription after a phone call which I picked up myself, so watch out for any things that CP may bring. Good luck and hopefully it won't be bad.
  24. put her on the potty right after she woke up in the morning or after an afternoon nap, or after you came home from a walk or got out of the car, these are the usual times when they do a wee. if she doesn't do a pee right after waking up wait 5-10 min and try again. if you don't have a potty just sit on a chair and hold her over a big bowl. this is how i started putting mine on the loo/potty and it worked just fine. good luck.
