  1. It's drab uninspired corporate rubbish. Faux industrial BBQ chintz cafe that would go down a storm in Clapham and Balham but not up to scratch round these parts. Would be bottom of my list of ED/PR places to eat and drink.
  2. Great news. I struggle to see why anyone would have an issues with this. More choice more local, what's not to like Millhaven? Does anyone know how big the proposed site is and how many screens it might hold?
  3. Would be a great location for a cinema such a Greenwhich Picturehouse or the Brixton Ritzy
  4. What's all this rubbish it talks about being as asset of community value? A disused, old, anonymous block, which had very little public access unless you were on the wrong side of the law. The sooner they knock it down the better. I'm amazed the campaigning for Waitrose hasn't started up again to be honest. A cinema would be good but if not I can't imagine why anyone would object to houses and flats being built. Also, does anyone know the status of the old flying squad house and land that is being developed opposite the Actress on Crystal Palace Road?
  5. Pretty bad drafting of this aspect of the law, not sure if its just the Highway Code itself or the actual drafting of the applicable legislation itself. I think the distinction that is not explained is that you must not enter if you are going straight ahead but cannot as the traffic is queued to the front of the box, but you may enter and wait if you are turning right - but are unable to due to oncoming traffic. Given the poor drafting and that most people will go by the HC, it's not surprising that most will tend to be cautious and not enter the box at all (myself included as I can never remember this!). Probably just confused the situation more I suspect!
  6. I have it agree with Bob - the best thing they could do is give over the site to the Turkish (?) supermarket near the Rose pub. It even has a deli if that's your thing! Failing that, they should aim for regular deliveries of well priced fresh food. Given they often have empty shelves and if full then fruit is overpriced and out of date I think organic anything is way beyond them. Oh and obviously always maintain a ridiculous amount of stock of ?3 for 12 toilet tissues on the shop floor!
  7. The 5 year old temporary lights (nothing wrong with them) were replaced earlier this year, for reasons known only to Southwark Council. The new lights are apparently motion activated. Or something. Maybe magic pixes. And the bulb lenses are the brightest red, the most soothing amber and the rarest green man has ever discovered. They have really helped improve road safety and been a fantastic and efficient investment that the local community cannot imagine how they ever lived without. In retrospect the disruption was really worth it. Keeps civil servants and civil contractors in business too. As a Colyton resident I go through these lights either by foot car or bike every day of the week. Sometimes all three. I love sitting there on my bike for 5 minutes wondeing how the DIY shop makes money, whether the cafe will be gentrified at some point and why the dentist has moved 2 doors down. If youre in a car, the trick is to stop short and then ease off your brake a little, roll forward and hey presto you can trick the sensor (pixie) in to thinking there is another car there and they switch to green. Off you go.
  8. I second uncle glen - I commute to Leamington Spa twice a week it's two hours from ED give or take. I go through Oval/Vauxhall/Nine Elms then Chelsea Embankment. Obviously the earlier you get out of London the better, ideally be on the A4/Earls Court no later than 7am to avoid really hefty traffic. The M40 is a good fast motorway 99% of the time and will drop you onto the M6 or the toll road direct (I'd pay for the toll road personally). Have a good trip!
  9. If it lasts just 3 months I will eat my hat Southwarks contractors couldn't stick to a timetable if their lives depended on it. I'd bet a pint that they will still be going at Christmas if previous experience is anything to go by.
  10. It's art innit. Suspect they are here to stay.
  11. Can we have accompanying threads praying for it to be a Little Waitrose/not another estate agent. Come of EDF folk your standards are slipping.
  12. If you have a car and drive it's cheaper to park there than get a cab both to and from - typically about ?35-?45 quid if you book in advance for a week in the long term car park, and they lay on very frequent (short) bus trip into the terminal.
  13. France, Spain, Holland, Japan, UK, Marocco, Lebanon, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman - Bluewater, Canary Wharf and Waterloo. Not multi national - just inter-continental! And yes a limited number outlets, if you number outlets in the 100s as any kind of limit. Good produce, great marketing all done to a proven and winning formula - let's not pretend it's a chi chi little French patisserie though! It's Starbucks by another name.
  14. Its a bloody outrage! Out of town chains threatening the livelihoods of LL's independent cafes? Probably undercutting them with their high quality, good value produce served in a customer friendly manner! Perhaps James Barber will start a campaign against this?
  15. It's like a French Greggs isn't it?!
  16. They've just committed a criminal offence by driving off haven't they? Just call the police.
  17. Maybe a flashing light hat to warn people that the less tolerant are in the vicinity so they can dive to the floor with child, pets, shopping bags, would be a simple solution? See attached. Not sure if there is sound tho, so you may want to adapt a siren so that blind people who are inconsiderately taking up too much of their alloted space with themselves and their labradors gently ambling along the pavement are also warned.
  18. Pedestrian crossing out of service last night again. I got off bus behind a blind man when I came back out a good 10 minutes later from the Co-op he was still stood there waiting for the signal. I took him across, he mentioned that the frequency with which is happens is "terryfying". I do wonder what kind of priority this has with Southwark Council who must surely be liable for some kind of legal negligence claim were someone to get injured or worse.
  19. Quite so Strawbs. To add insult to injury you have to wade through a few reservoirs whenever it has been raining, both down platform 13 and then back along platform 12 to the stairs! Still, at least the problem will go away completely when the LB to Charing Cross service is cancelled! Happy days! Thanks network rail!
  20. Oh the humanity! Will no one think of the children? I think a leaflet campaign is exactly what is needed. Failing that, I don't think Bob Geldof is busy at the moment?
  21. Not sure why having totally separate platforms is worth 2 years whole years of disruption, half of south London and Kent has managed for the last oh say 70 years? I can work out to get to work without the LB Charing Cross service, it's just longer and more expensive but hey we're just customers so why would that bother network rail/southern etc?!
