And thank you also to the millions of people buying lottery tickets, as lottery funding is the main reason for the increased success of our sports men and women.
-
It is true that when you search they list tickets prices that when you then try to buy them it shows tickets at that price don't exist....and yes...that is very frustrating.

The difference between Rye Lane and the GE John, is that one is a retail area and the other is residential. The council can only consider objections in relation to four catagories, none of which would be relevant to a betting shop situated in retail high street, opening normal retail hours. It's not that the licensing committee ignored those objections, but that they felt they had no merit given the location and nature of the application. With the GE however, there is a very good case to argue that extension of hours will have a detrimental impact on neighbouring residents within the criteria of the four catagories allowed for objection. Personally (and given the history of licensing committees) I can not see the GE application being successful in it's current form. The GE will however be able to make ammended applications in the future if this one fails, so unfortunately it may well be an ongoing issue for local residents.

Eviction due to new Cameron law

Hi RC. Have you tried talking to the Southwark Housing Options advice line on 020 7525 5950. They have a Private Tenancies Team and they may be able to give you some advice and help. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200052/looking_for_a_home/749/housing_options_service If I can think of anything else I'll post it. -
I see Mr Barber as a bit of an own goal type of player so Mrs Barber wouldn't necessarily have to score to win a game of footy against him.

I also tend to think Nunhead is less pretentious than ED. It's a gentrification without snobbery, and I like that. I know of several parents involved with Ivydale school and I get the impression it is a well run school. I think it would be a good move djw.

All long as house prices go up....those that own them don't care if you can afford your rent or not......definitely nothing big about this society sadly. -

We don't have enough prisons to lock you up.....so why not? ;D Worse still, when New Labour came into power they drastically cut the discount that right to buy tenants were eligible for. The coalition have restored the high discount, up to ?76k of the market value (depending on length of tenancy). I'm morally opposed to the sale of social housing but that discount means I could buy my one bedroomed flat for just over half it's market value, if I had the means to do so. How can that be right? The other thing I would say about right to buy is that many of the leasehold properties quickly become tenanted, with tenants coming and going, replacing what before were less transient communities. It should be a requirement that a right to buy home remains the owners primary address for a period of time after purchase imo. -
LOL...... I can strangely identify with that.... ;D

Landlords taking advantage of HB to line their pockets is immoral, I agree SF, but we don't have enough affordable housing for those who need it. So what is the solution? -

I think for many not and whom have never been, in your position RC it's hard for them to fully understand how you feel. I include the privilaged millionaires formulating the policy that impacts on you in that. I feel for you. It's bad enough to be unemployed and feel that you are unemployable (because of your age) without being burdened with housing problems too. The people at the bottom of our society are really struggling, and worse still, nobody in power really seems to care. -

I think the OP is suggesting there is difficulty for recipients of HB to find landlords prepared to rent to them in the private sector, and I have to say all the evidence shows this to be true. And it is also true to say that as a result of the coalitions changes to HB, many landlords withdrew themselves from local authority schemes to house those on low and no incomes in the private sector. So we have had a growing shortage of social housing for three decades and now we have a shrinking pool of affordable private sector housing too. It wasn't quite what the coalition predicted....they argued that welfare reform would force private sector rents down. It hasn't happened, and an already severe housing crisis is about to get a fair bit worse. And even though interest rates are at an all time low, it isn't stopping the greed of landlords is squeezing rents up as high as they can. Funnily enough, my prediction was a return to the far more expensive alternative of local authorities having to house familes in bed and breadfast.......and their next brainwave, a proposal to deny HB to anyone under 25 will almost see a return of the sight of young homeless people on our streets. Exactly how much has been saved from the public purse by all these reforms? Nothing....in fact the bill has gone up steeply, through increased unemployment, and the cost of the thousands of auccessful appeals against attempts to cut individuals benefits, with some claimants being given an increase in benefit and paid compensation. Hi RC......bed and breakfast, whilst not ideal, will at least make you eligible for social housing (probably with a HA). It might also be worth talking to the housing office. They may have some useful advice and other options you can explore. -
France were my outside tip at last years ladies world cup but they never really got started. They do have talent though, and I think the next world cup is when they'll come into their own.

It's a valid point in some respects, regarding speed and technique but the best male teams can play possession football too, because they give themselves time on the ball. That's what we in the UK don't seem to get. The kick and rush of the Premier League does not make it the best league in the world....not technically anyway. The Premiership ego is as deluded as many of the players it fields imo. And there's no doubting the skill of Karen Carney for example, who can be surrounded by three defenders, and still wriggle the ball through them......THAT is exciting to watch. What I would counter is the idea that some players look good only because they have time on the ball. It irritates me that these women at the top of the game are not given the credit they should be for their level of skill, skill that is as good as many of the best male footballers. And if you watch the women's game between the best teams in the world, you'll see that the players have not as much time on the ball as you might think. Female footballers will close down attacking players as quickly as possible just like their male conterparts. The principles of the game are the same whoever is playing. Yep I happily conceed that North Korea are the exception to the drama rule lol......didn't they have some badminton women disqualified for not playing fair too? :D

You can also order online from the Olympic site (lots of caps on there) and delivery is fast.

My only issue with men's tennis is that I'm bored with the Nadal/ Federer thing. Maybe women's tennis is more interesting because it's no longer dominated by any one player. Sorry....completely off topic I know :)
-
I think maybe Otta your view that women's football is not exciting enough is akin to men not watching the womens 100m final, or women's tennis etc. Of course top female athletes are not going to be as fast as male equivalents but I would argue that speed and power aren't in themselves the only factors that define something as exciting vs boring. Heaven knows I've watched more than enough boring male football. Speed aside, there is now as much skill in women's footie as the mens. The other key difference is that female footballers don't writhe around in agony every time they are tackled, and make the men look like wimps in that respect. GB ladies have some really good players and all of them play intelligent football. Given how poor England's male team have been for so long now I am very enthused by the performances of the current ladies team. I think the women's game is still a long way from being accepted in it's own right, but that is only because of inherent sexism within the footballing industry and a culture of dismissal of women in sport generally. Things though are slowly moving in the right direction and the more professional the women's game becomes the higher the standard accross all the leagues (not just the super league) will become.

I think there is a way to deal specifically with threatening behaviour online via already existing harassment laws..... Twitter could monitor itself but like facebook is a victim of it's own success....i.e. to much traffic to monitor and so has to be reactive to complaint rather than monitoring. Several celebrities have deactivated twitter accounts because of mornic bullies with nothing better to do...

For anyone that's interested Team GB ladies beat Brazil tonight in the women's olympic footy.....that means we top our group with three wins.......UK ladies footy team looking better than ever..............

There are also the 343 and 484 Bic depending on which end of Nunhead you are in, and tbf not all areas af ED are well served for transport without a more than short walk. Gentrification is the main reason for the ED revival over the past 15 years more than anything else. Car ownership is just as high in ED as anywhere else too so I'm not sure the selection of bus routes has much of a bearing. I would argue that gentrification was driven by middle classes being outpriced from areas they'd ideally like, looking for affordable up and coming areas. The recent series 'secret history of our streets' highlighted the economic cycles of residential areas in this way perfectly. It also stands to reason, if Nunhead becomes the new alternative to the peak pricing of ED, that it too will see an move towards gentrification.
