  1. mima, I think you're right. The Dr who refused to treat us had given us shocking care during prior visits (told me he would be making a SS referral when my son, then 10mo, had burns on his hands. Theres more to this story, but I am not an abusive, negligent monster! Not when in public, anyway...)
  2. Hi Minder, I thinm the upper weight limit is usually around 40lb? To be honest, it's easier and more comfortable than lugging her around on my hip the whole time, and I tend to only wear her for short amounts of time (although could carry her on my back for longer if I needed to, no way could I handle front carry anymore though).
  3. When Lex was 9wks old, she got conunctivitis. I went to the walk in centre, and the dr refused to treat her because she was so little (!!!) He said she had a temperature (37.8, it was fecking boiling outside) and sent me to a&e with a 'referral' letter. They were as shocked as I was that I'd been sent along. Anyway, they diagnosed conjnctivitis, prescribed some drops, sent us on our way.
  4. My one year old lady weighs 34lb. Yes. She is huge. Her brother weighs 30lb. He is 2y7mo. What SSC would be best for them both, primarily her though? I have a Ergo and wear her on my back, but it's becoming steadily more and more uncomfortable. TIA!
  5. If you're going to replace night feeds, if bf, replace with formula rather than water/sugar water (!) if under a year; I don't think night-weaning is medically advised under about 9mo iirc. FWIW, my one year old still wakes once a night for a feed (around 3-4am) and she gulps her milk down so I know she definitely needs it and it's not a habit.
  6. If you feel the situation isn't working atm, and you can afford a sleep expert, then I'd say go for it. We are having major sleep problems with my 2.5y/o atm and I'd get an expert in to us in a heartbeat if we had the ???!
  7. It was just this: 8 cloves garlic, minced or finely chopped (more if you LOVE garlic) 1/2 tsp of black pepper (more if desired) 2 tsp salt 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 cup Freshly squeezed lemon juice Directions 1) Mix all ingredients into a container with secureable lid 2) Tighten lid 3) Shake vigorously until olive oil and lemon juice blend into one, after about 1 minute of shaking. 4) Spread over fresh spinach or any shredded salad greens! But I used less garlic, because we didn't have enough. Ahem. Also, cress, quite peppery and pungent and would have been overpowered by the garlic. Or something.
  8. Yep! I am multi-talented, truely...
  9. Mackarel and potato bake was a total success! Really lovely. I teamed it witj a watercress salad in a lemon dressing ala something I had at Angels&Gypsies a few months back.
  10. Mr B is Portuguese, so we are well versed in all things Bachalau, never thought to substitute it for Mackarel though... *ponders*
  11. Thanks guys! Vik; I am going to be making this for tea tonight! Excited!
  12. I love a bit of mackarel, me. And, so do my babies. Anyone got any recipes involving aforementioned lovely fish? Nom nom nom. BONUS! Share your favourite recipes in general.
  13. We call it a Moo. Seb calls his little sister Moo Moo. Why? "because she HAS a moo" errr awkward...
  14. When I was a LOT younger (obviously), I asked my Mum if you needed to take your clothes off to 'do it'. She said "Nah, sometimes it's best not to bother..." ANYHOO, with that in mind:
  15. Seb is 2 1/2 and told me very matter of factly that boy's have willies, girls have moo's (his word for a girl's bits) and that him and his sister came out of Mummy's moo. This isn't correct, I had 2 x c/s, so said some babies do indeed come out that way (this involved talking about some of his friends) but him and his sister came out of my tummy with help from the Dr and Midwives; he had a good look at my scar. Apparently, my babies got in my tummy from "watching Num Tums". Bit more of a talk needed, I feel.
  16. We have a tumble drier, as we haven't got a garden (WOE! HUGE, HUGE WOE!). When my son was born, in midwinter, someone bought it for us saying 'Here is something useful...'. And how! Love it.
  17. I think we maye have to move in the next 5 years or so, and unfortunately, that will involve leaving London. I'm not from ED, I live in Camberwell and I LOVE IT. However, we have a 2bdr flat and two babies; 11mo and 2.5y and no garden. We have outgrown the flat but can't buy anywhere at the moment for various personal reasons, one of them being we are on one income and are likely to be for the next 5 years at least.
  18. Wasn't there some kind of talk about this a while ago? I think the general consensus was that posters liked to see posts directed at parents of older children (a sort of 'what the future may hold' aspect) and vice versa. Although I may have imagined that entirely...
  19. Definitely still offer her milk before a feed of solids, otherwise she'll fill up on solids, rather than milk, which is their main source of everything till they're 1; i.e. she will wake up a lot more at night for milk otherwise!
  20. VSG; I used to get to Canterbury from Victoria; was a train that went to Dover Priory and then went it got to Rochester (? I think ?) would split and half would go to Canterbury and the other half would go onto Dover. So basically, what Belle said...
  21. 2.5yr old; around 16mo, but he still prefers using his fingera for everything despite not doing BLW w/him. 1yr old: Laughs in the face of cutlery, uses her littl fat hands to eat absolutely everything. Did BLW with her.
  22. Does the 484 bus route serve Nunhead? The 484 stops at Camberwell Green, and , Camberwell Leisure centre has a nice quiet pool at the weekend, we take our two (11mo and 2.5y) to the sunday Jelly Babies session from 2-3pm.
  23. Tuesday; Bubbly Bees at the Scout's Hut on Greendale; ?5.50 per family, two sessions- 9:30-10:30 and 10:30-11:45 I believe. Really great, my two (11mo and 2.5yrs) love it. Would definitely recommend! Wednesday; Kim from Tippe Toes fame runs a soft play club at the Herne Tavern: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,875029
  24. Swaddled my second, saved my sanity! 1) Both. Started off at night, with great success, and then when daytime naps were becoming impossible, swaddled then too! 2) I got a miracle blanket from Mothercare- made out of light material, perfect as my baby was born in July. 3) Embaressingly, until she was SEVEN MONTHS. I tried to wean her from the swaddle several times before that, but it involved all night crying, shushing, breastfeeding and patting. When she was ready to be unswaddled all night, it was easy as pie. She now sleeps in a gro-bag, You're not 'meant' to swaddle past 3mo/12 weeks, but I know loads of people that did it till 5/6mo. 4) Arms down.
  25. We don't do that many classes, we do a few playgroups but both of mine are, hmm, characters...so things need to be unstructured/relaxed activity wise. We do a lot of Park outings. My youngest used to be a calm and compliant baby but there is a reason we now call her "Crazy Lady". Everything else you pointed out makes a lot of sense too!
