S, who will be 3y10mo when he starts school nursery, has a choice of which nursery session to choose from. I don't know which one to go for, WWTFD (what would the forum do?) Factors to take into consderation: -His sister will be 2y2mo at the time, hopefully still having a PM nap starting at 1pm. -I am not currently working and probably won't be at the time. -Nursery is a 7min walk away, no bus or cars to worry about loading anyone into Any thoughts?

Jenny, are you on Twitter? If so, whack something about this in a tweet and get people to RT. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of Ol Tweety, seriously! good luck! -

I wore this: http://www.missselfridge.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33055&storeId=12554&productId=4298221&langId=-1&categoryId=&searchTerm=maxi&pageSize=40 to my SIL's wedding in April, when my Nursling was 8mo old. You are welcome to borrow it if you'd like, it's a UK 8. -

My daughter got her first teeth at 3m3wk, so not too young at all! The teething powders were most effective I found.

I can ASSURE you, 110% that Inkmaiden was not that nanny. It was probably me. Can't stand kids, grumble grumble. *bah humbug* -

Two of the best nannies I have ever come across just fell into tne job, fwiw. For me, experience comes above qualifications, but thats just my preference. People often mistake me for a nanny, I find it amusing. Aint no one PAYING me to wrestle with these two rugrats! *grumble* -

My son often calls me Ruth, not Mum. Dunno why, it's just one of his things. I understand your concern, I think. My advice would be to interview as many potential nannies as you can and go by your gut feeling. I was meant to go back to work in September, when my two would have been 2y10mo and 14mo, but whilst all the nannies we interviewed had excellent references and were no doubt caring, experienced and lovely, I couldn't find one on my wavelength, and knew I wouldn't be 100% happy returning to work until I could find thr perfect match. So I'm not going back. Poverty, here we come... -
Grandma confused re getting into schools
Ruth_Baldock replied to Kalamiphile's topic in The Family Room Discussion
:) Ah, right! Sorry if I offended, I suppose this all hit a nerve. My own Mum tried to put my children's name down for our synagogue's Kindergarten. Which is in Finchley. And extortinate. And obviously religious, which we aren't really bringing our children up to be. -

Jesus Wept. Sigh. How do you know she's a nanny? Why do nannies get SUCH a bad press? Everyone I've ever met has genuinely cared about their charges and has been loving, thoughtful and generally fantastic. -
Grandma confused re getting into schools

I'm sure you mean well by taking your Grandaughter into the nursery/school on an open day, but if my Mum or MIL went over my head and did this without asking me first, I would feel so hurt, and a bit patronised actually. It's lovely that you are so involved with your daughter and GD and you are obviously close to them all, but do think about asking your daughter first. Perhaps she has been ignoring your advice because she doesn't want her daughter to go to the school opposite her house; maybe she is exploring other options? Just a thought. -
Well. That does it. Now I have seen everything. God bless the Internet! And all who sail in her!

Different boroughs have different policies, so I think it would be impossible for us to comment on your daughter and granddaughter's situation. I would advise her calling the primary school directly for advice re: nursery admissions, but a nursery place doesn't guarantee a primary school place (in Southwark at least) -
Help! I think my milk supply is going....
Ruth_Baldock replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is baby showing any other signs of possible low supply? dehydration (less wet nappies), fussiness etc? I had low supply with my first; what helped was taking fenugreek (makes you smell like a curry, but I like curry!) from H&B, plenty of skin/skin (wore baby a lot), big bowl of porridge as oats induce lactation. However, it's normal for your supply to change and calm down so you're not comstantly producing milk like some kind of lactating geyser from around 4m+, women often comment on feeling less "full", and some stop being able to feel their let down too. -
Princess, SB: Have you tried the netmums/mumsnet (I forget which) local meet ups site? Could the NCT help?
-
As inspired by two threads on the Mumsnet Classic's board; have you ever encountered a random act of kindess? Share with the class, please. Mine: 1) My waters broke in John Lewis, Bluewater, 15th December 2009. I was mortified and flapping about and my husband had gone a particuarly fetching shade of puce. Out of nowhere, a senior manager appeared and calmly whisked us away to a quiet office, where she got me some water and a sandwich ('to keep your strength up!') whilst I calmed down. No contractions had started, so I was mostly damp and embaressed. My husband went to bring the car around to the customer collections bit, we'd parked absolutely miles away in a car park in another bit of Bluewater. She stayed and chatted to me, and I told her my first ever job was at a Waitrose in North London, then John Lewis in Brent Cross. As she said goodbye after escorting me to the car, she told me to call her/email her (gave me her work details) and let her know when the baby was born! After a long and awful inductio and crash c-section, I e-mailed her once I got back from Kings. You know how it is in the early days, when you're deranged and tell all and sundry all the nitty gritty details about your birth story. Well, I did that. She replied saying congratulations, and asked for my address to send us a card. The next day, the doorbell goes and it's a John Lewis delivery man, with a massive bunch of flowers, big box of chocs and some lovely baby outfits for the baby, and a voucher for me 'to buy myself something lovely'. She also sent a card and she'd written something lovely inside it, saying she had 4 c-sections with each of her children. It was such a wonderful thing to do. Elaine from JL Bluewater, the voucher went on some Chanel perfume! Thankyou for your kindess. 2) My second baby was 4mo old and going through teething/a wonder week. I hadn't slept for more than 50 minutes in one go for about 6 weeks. My friend texted me and asked if I was around in the day at all because she wanted to drop something off for me. She came over and bought me loads of meals (risotto and the like, all bloody lovely) to keep me (and my toddler, by default) fed for about a week. I was barely able to function, and definitely wasn't eating properly. Aforementioned friend also came over and bought Awesome Pastries with her and enterained my children when I was trying to sort out a massive balls up with IPS over my then nine week old's passport. You know who you are but I don't think you know how much it meant to me, I am often on the recieveing end of well meaning platitudes (normally from my family) but rarely does anyone actually do anything to physically help. So thankyou, I don't know how I would have coped over the past year without you. 3) Woman at Starbucks, Muswell Hill, who always only charged me for my coffee and not my brownie in the morning for TWO YEARS.
