  1. Whilst I felt for Cherry and her guilt over FF, I really felt like the program didn't really highlight anything we didn't already think about bf; i.e. 'teen' mums never BF because it's not 'cool' etc. What did it really show us? Nothing. Felt SO bad for the Mum feeding her babby in the loos; I remember being that nervous about feeding S in public. I hope she gained enough confidence to feed her baby wherever/whenever.
  2. Hearing my baby wail in pain from teething, whilst crying real tears and clutching his little fat cheeks was almost too much to bear. We dose him up on calprofen, to stop immflamation (also he gets a terrible fever when teething) and hope for the best. Poor, poor baby. I had my wisdom teeth extracted when I was 19 and that was dire; if it's as bad as that then no wonder the poor little bugger gives us hell!
  3. I have a feeling this is going to make me very angry (so not good for my BP!) but like the telly addict I am, will be watching anyway...
  4. Princess Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thank you Helen GV and anna_r. Comments such as > yours are exactly why I love this forum! I second this!!!
  5. I have absolutely no idea, but I'll be watching this thread like a hawk; am right there with you as you know...cheeky 19mo old when the newborn arrives. ARGH ARGH ARGH.
  6. Audrey, it was via scans. Palpatations revealed nothing except I was measuring around a week ahead and that he was head down from 21wks. I have a bit of worry about my dates too, currently have two EDD! Good to hear you had some success today, hope it's made you feel a bit better :) weather was amazg, my baby boy certainly loved it, running around the park and lying in the grass :)
  7. Audrey, I know it's worrying when you are told things like this. How are along are you, 30wks you say? At 33wks, I was told my eldest was 'already over 6lbs'. It was utter b*llox, he was born at 39+2, at 8lb6oz. So don't let the estimated weight upset you. If you're unsure about your dates (or, you're sure but your MWs etc disagree) then do put your foot down with your MW. It may be worth speaking to one of the head MWs at Kings- Katie Yiannousis (spelling probably totally awful...) or if there is a supervising mw at your practise. My MWs, first time, were lovely. This time, not so much, and I left their care around a month ago and went with indepedent midwives. Costly, but worth it as there is no way I am being pushed into a repeat section if I haven't delivered by 41wks.
  8. I was just thinking that too, Belle- great minds etc ;) Happy Mother's day, Forum! I often feel that a lot of you lovely ladies do a lot of Mothering towards ME with my constant 'OMG PANIC AND WORRY' threads, and you're all great at it! May tomorrow bring you happy, healthy offspring, lie-ins, no nap/food refusal and plenty of unbroken sleep. xxx
  9. Same wirh us- sometimes Seb has a fever but munches through his meals and drinks happily, so we leave it- applying cool, damp cloths and dressing him in less (this happened after his BCG) . Ibprof has worked in the past two incidences of illness which have both coincided with teething (another tooth poking it's way through on the right hand side of his mouth as he showed us today) so would make sense why that works best, didn't know that till just now :) Once again, Buggie saves the day :D
  10. Sorry I missed you all! My toddler was ill on Thursday and Friday meaning everything I was meant to do then had to be put off until today when Husband was around to lend an extra hand (also, Toddler was slightly better today). Children: always put a spanner in the works with plans being made!
  11. For a temperature, we normally give Calpol and that does the trick, but when it goes above 39 degrees and calpol/cold compresses etc doesn't work, then we give him a single 5ml dose of Ibuprofen too (as advised by Paediatric A+E) and that normally shifts it. We never give Calpol/Ibfr. unless he has a high temperature, we normally try everything else to bring it down. However, my husband and I are very much of the belief that you don't muck about with high temperatures as the risks of complications on babies and young children is quite severe (a snr doctor at Kings told us this when we took Seb in with a temp of 40 about three months ago...)
  12. Well, last night was not great- bed at 6pm, by 7.30pm he had a temperature of almost 38 degrees, and by 8pm it was 39.2! Gave Calpol, but after an hour and a half it was still the same, so gave jnr Ibuprofen and that seemed to sort it. He woke at about 1am and came into our bed but was MUCH more settled than the night before. Today he's tired, but napped easily, has eaten slightly more and is more like his old self. LOTS of drooling but not so much sneezing/coughing and it doesn't bother him so much. Since last night, no temperature either so fingers crossed for tonight. I hope we're on the road to recovery; I don't know if anyone else find's this, but he was so NOT himself yesterday that I found it sort of creepy? I probably sound pathetic, but it was very sad :( BST and Gina, I hope your little one's recovery quickly and you all get nice, lovely sleep too!
  13. Thanks all, a visit to the GP confirmed it is a virus :( His cheeks are very red and spotty, I really feel for him. Total food and nap refusal (save 10 minutes on the sofa at 4pm) today too. I am praying for a better night, last night was dire; he got about 5 hours sleep from 7pm-7am, and I got about two hours. Awful. GP said it could last up to a fortnight, but I'm hoping this isn't the case...
  14. Oh cripes...WHERE did he get it?? He hasn't been in contact with anyone since Sunday, really... If it's a virus, there is not much the GP can do, so useless making an appointment I suppose.
  15. We had a gro-anywhere, which was great, but now have proper backed curtains from John Lewis which have that fab 'blackout' effect too.
  16. I think Cheeky (grumpy) S is teething again; snotty nose (leading to angry coughing) spots/rash on his little face, drooling. However, he's got all his molars, incisors and canines so...what teeth could be coming through? pre-molars aren't meant to come in till 24-36 months from everything I've read, and he's just turned 15mo, so isn't this a little early The molars that just came in are right at the back, with a big gap for pre-molars, leading me to think these are the MAIN molars, I think? Or is it a virus? Snot alternating between yellowish and clear (tmi, sorry). He had his boosters AND MMR a week ago, so it could all be down to that? possibly? this all came on last night, totally out of the blue. Who else is going through this? It's the epitome of NOT FUN.
  17. We have one of those Little Life packs for S, and he loves it actually. We don't have to 'rein him in' that much (yet) and when we go for walks, he always finds a bit of treasure (usually a stone) which he demands I put in the bag bit for later on. He also once found a fiver on the floor of Nandos in Bluewater when wearing it ;)
  18. Ah, Cheeky S did this, after a period of my husband working all hours and not being able to give him a bottle. Then he'd take one, but only from me (totally defeats the object). We left it a week, tried again with a BIT of success, left it a week, tried again a week later and eventually he got better. I remember sobbing on the bed, wailing 'No one can help to feeeeeddd hiiiim! My life is oh-oh-OVER!'. P.S. I just read that text you sent way-back-when, which leads me to believe S had his little fat hands on the phone when it arrived. He knows how to navigate the damn thing, so emails and texts are marked as 'read'. Grr! So not ignoring you, will reply this eve.
  19. Personally, going to an all-day event, not near my home, when my son was 3 weeks old, or so, wouldn't have even entered my mind. When he was 2wks old, we went out to a formal dinner (baby in pram pre-approved by hosts) and it was EXHAUSTING. But, he was going through a growth spurt (feeding every 90 minutes) and also screaming a lot because he were still resisting giving him a dummy. A week later, he was a totally different baby and it would have been easier. So, I'd play it by ear!
  20. SW: Me and Sister looked in colleges etc in different boroughs, but what we did was in the first or second week of the new school year in Y11, called up the colleges we were interested in, then noted all the relevant dates down everywhere. My sister did hers last year and put all the dates into a google document and on the shared calender her and Mum have access to, so it sent them all reminders.
  21. Yes; are we still meeting? Did we agree to meet in SE5; The Recreation Ground? Looking forward to meeting everyone :)
  22. ASOS are always good for things like this. Also, may be worth going into somewhere like John Lewis and speaking to a proper bra expert, they'd know about 'bust enhancing' things, even in swimwear. I have the opposite problem, was a 32A and could wear bandeau style tops but I'm now a 32E and am suitably unimpressed!
  23. Ditto Maclaren quest; can't wait to swap the double buggy for one when Baby 1 is old enough to never need pram.
  24. Both my sister and I looked in year 10 and then in more depth at the start of year 11. I stayed put and went onto the sixth form at my school, she went mad in doing her research and went off to a different school's sixth form.
  25. Mima, here is a useful page/definition of the witching hour- but basically, yes, it's those few hours in the evening when babies get very grizzly and unsettled. With my son, he used to cry, clusterfeed, fall asleep on boob, wake up when move, cry, clusterfeed....you get the idea. http://moxie.blogs.com/askmoxie/2006/10/qa_the_witching.html
