  1. Can a moderator just get the IP address that the original post was submitted from in comparison to the rest? This can all be put to bed then.
  2. Welcome, here to help!
  3. I would! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10113915.stm
  4. Yes, it's called an iphone
  5. Smeltz, Sorry that you feel I need to 'wind my neck in' I just naturally assumed the following points: 1. A forum dedicated to the residents of ED would be a nice place to be. 2. A forum section with the word 'gossip' would be an appropriate place to indeed post gossip. 3. As you appear to be an 'old' member of the board who knows where everything would go, and as such I must have come across as a 'new' member in my inability to post in the correct section, or know that a post has been going since March 2007, you would have been a little more helpful or friendly. As such I think I'll just stick to my actual friends, rather than embarrass myself any more making such stupid mistakes on here. Nice to know I've moved somewhere so welcoming. Thanks to those that were nice though, unfortunately it's always the few that ruin it for the many. And yes I am being over-sensitive.
  6. So you're saying there should be 2 groups, one for issues, one for gossip?? Jesus why do some people have to be so ****ing pedantic! Way to put new people to ED off others!
  7. You'd expect the 'gossip' to go in the 'General ED Issues/Gossip section! Silly me!!
  8. ................James Nesbitt, sitting outside Locale having a latte right now.
  9. Hi, Standard letter that they send to everyone. I would suggest that you do try to call the prosecutions manager first (if they will speak to you) Firstly write down some bullet points of each step of the journey, so you dont forget to say anything and also dont get flustered. The fact that Southern Railway has a zero tolerence policy on Fare Evasion doesn't mean they dont have room to move on the difference between people that will travel most times without any intention of buying a ticket, and someone, who i think is you in this case, who makes a poor error in judgement call. Explain that looking back you shouldnt have done what you did and let the frustration of running late and large queues for tickets and a broken automated ticked machine led you into thinking you would get a ticket at the other end. I would try not to talk too much about tailgaiting someone else through the barrier, that was the REALLY stupid part. You can only plead your case to them and hope for a fine, maybe even offer to pay a stupidly high fine, its got to be better than the alternative! Good Luck
  10. Hi, Firstly try elephant.co.uk and get a quote online in his name with you as a named driver, this will bring the cost down but he will still build no claims bonus. Secondly the car isn't even worth ?3500 so there is no point in having fully comp insurance. he's 17, he's going to "probably" drive a little 'erratically' he's probably gonna prang it reversing into a tight space, so let him knock the hell out of this car (by hitting non living and preferably not other peoples vehicles) and gain experience. 14 years ago when I passed my test insurance on a 1986 1.4 Renault 5 piece of crap worth ?250 was ?660 third party only! I just took that and hoped nobody would bother stealing something that barely drove! It will go down a fair bit after a years no claims gets added on.
  11. I don't think it can be exactly your point, as I still don't agree with you. Oh well, that's life I guess!
  12. Without Rooney we've no chance. Fingers crossed etc. ??????????????????? Why? Are we only fielding him in the group stages? :-)
  13. >and that i had offered to pay the fare or the fine right there, and as the law states for Fare Evasion, >they have to prove that you did not have the means to pay the fare at the time you were caught. No, the offence is that someone "Travels or attempts to travel on a railway without having previously paid his fare, and with intent to avoid payment thereof". _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ That's exactly my point, the intent not to pay the fare, i.e. not having the means to pay the fare has to be proved to be convicted of fare evasion. OK in this case, slipping the ticket barrier is a bit of a glaringly large hole, I was just submitting what I pointed out to TFL when they picked me up on one of lifes little over-sites that have become such huge criminal offences nowadays.
  14. I would suggest as soon as you get the letter you call them and plead your case over the phone and offer them an out of court payment. Hopefully they will go for this and that will be the end of it. Alternatively there are plenty of specialist solicitors out there who will be able to help you, it all depends on how much you wish to pay against the risk of a criminal record for 5 years? I had a similar situation on a No.25 bus a few years ago, I was 60p short on my PAYG oyster and honestly just did not realise. I got the prosecution letter, I argued that I was not allowed to leave the bus by the inspector which is holding against will, that he had not read me my rights so nothing he said would be admissible in court, and that i had offered to pay the fare or the fine right there, and as the law states for Fare Evasion, they have to prove that you did not have the means to pay the fare at the time you were caught. I received a letter back stating that there was no record of this incident and so to ignore the previous communication. So, as I say it's up to you, it all depends on how you worried you are, how much money you have to spare and if you're willing to fight it on the basis you believe you are in the right and East Dulwich Stations ticket buying situation is an absolute joke at the best of times! Good luck either way!
  15. That'll be all the Upper Class fighting over parking spaces for their Tractors! :)
  16. Seeing as this thread is about whether Peckham Rye was or was not a worse area than other areas, why not look here: http://maps.police.uk/view/?q=se155dq&url= It isn't explicit to stabbings but the number of crimes, makes for an interesting comparison if nothing else.
  17. A quick search on the Met Office Crime Stats Map gives you a general Idea.
  18. I hate to say it, but the iPad is not going to replace a PC to most extents. Sure if you want it purely to browse the web, or send emails, then go for it I say. If you want to use it for video and music, you have to synch it through a PC/MAC anyway. If you want it for creating documents, the best you'll get are 3rd party text editors. As has been said, its an intermediary device for playing around on the web or viewing movies on the commute, thats about it.
