  1. I asked at the station and they said keeping the path clean is the responsibility of Railtrack.
  2. Bought lots from Mr Banfield. He even came round to do a quote to put up new garden fences and when the quote came out to be more than I wanted to spend, he stood in my garden and told me how I could do it myself (as we had never done anything like that before) - really nice guy! Reliable with deliveries too.
  3. Hi Monica Do you have any idea how far the CPZ may extend? Are they thinking of the whole of ED or just around Lordship Lane? I think the parking problems are due to a number of factors: (1) Some commuters. (2) Some people feel the need to always drive to Somerfield and it is certainly much busier than in the days before the revamp. (3) People who move to ED now are wealthier (they would have to be to afford some of the prices!) and they are more likely to be able to afford a car, if not two cars sometimes. A couple near me have 3 cars!!! They only have one parking space in front of their house. They have one work van and two private cars - ridiculous. However, if they can afford to run so many cars, having to buy extra permits at ?100ish a go, is not really going to discourage them I think. Multiple car ownership is a big problem though. (4) More houses are being converted into flats now. Planning permission just doesn't give enough thought to where all the flat owners are going to park.
  4. I agree that she is useless - she won't touch a political hot potato. I say this from experience. She deals with issues that are easy to deal with and she is quick to blame other parties. I don't really care which party our MP belongs to, but I would like an MP who actually lives here and genuinely cares about the community. She would never put her constituency in front of a labour policy. All she cares about is herself and earning lots of money from being a minister. She seems to spend more time on the Olympics and casinos than working with her constituency. She comes once a month to the Darrell Rd community centre, but there's no point talking to her about certain issues which she considers too political to get involved in.
  5. Hi Administrator I was flicking through the Southwark Mag (the free one the council produces and puts through the door) and at the back it has listings for 'Area Forums'. Just a thought, but you might want to get ED Forum put there to get more publicity and users - you may already have thought of this, but thought I'd mention this in case you don't get the Southwark Magazine.
  6. What's the latest? Has Dylan showed up? Did she fall for the replacement...?
  7. Tram is good idea as the buses are soooo slow through walworth/camberwell! The separate lane may slow down other traffic, but that would encourage more people to use public transport and cut down on pollution. ED may have missed out on the east london line tube extension, but its only a quick bus ride up to forest hill (depending what end of LL you are - I'm up Barry Rd end).
  8. I personally like the roundabout and I do associate it with arriving at LL and the hub of ED. HOWEVER, I am prepared to listen to alternatives and see some mock ups, and see what COULD be achieved if a substantial amount of money could be obtained from TfL. As Paul says, Southwark council only have enough money at present to pay for a single crossing. If one of the alternatives Paul suggests actually looks good and can get funding from TfL, then residents can have the chance to say yes or no - but at least lets give him a chance to put his ideas across before we tell him to leave the roundabout alone. Lets be open-minded. If the sugeestions aren't what residents want, then we can say no. I think a lot of the attachment to the roundabout is that it does signal you're back in ED and its a nice 'welcome to ED' feeling seeing the familiar roundabout/greenery of goose green/the corner of the EDT. I think that if a similar 'welcome to ED' feeling could be created then that could mean people feeling less sad about the roundabout going. I absolutely love Quaywe's idea of a floral arch and something actually saying 'welcome to ED'. At the moment, the pictures posted above make it look like it could be any traffic junction in London, so what we need are people's ideas of what could be added to give that unique 'welcome to ED' feeling - like a floral arch. I've always thought that having zebra crossings around the roundabout is mad and downright dangerous - it just seems potty. Also the buses and traffic do move incredibly slowly when there is a lot of traffic. It doesn't bother me so much as I walk the 15 minutes from my house to the station, but I have to say that a lot of people do catch the bus all the way into town or at least up to Denmark Hill (to get the blackfriars train). I think that whatever suggestions are made, they would have to be visually attractive and have some sort of uniqueness, or otherwise I would vote for the roundabout to stay, but I'm willing to listen to the ideas and I like some of what I've heard so far.
  9. Spoke to a local estate agent about schools when I was thinking about moving house a couple of years ago - an estate agent who (shock, horror!) was NOT a chav and seemed to know a lot about the area. She said that a lot of parents were now trying to get their children into Heber and that as a school it is just as good as Goodrich and some think it is better than Goodrich. I think a number of the primaries in ED seem good and certainly a lot better than they were. When I first moved to ED a few years back it seemed that the only good primary was Goodrich but other schools have now caught up which is good news for everyone in ED.
  10. Hi Amelie Sorry to hear about your problems trying to sleep with the orange glow from the street lamps. You say you have blinds and lined curtains - do they have black out lining? If your blinds have black out lining, this should block out 99% of the light and if you also have curtains with black out lining then no light or orange glow should come through at all. Just a suggestion as we also have a street lamp outside our bedroom window. You can get good black out blinds from John Lewis for under ?20. You can also buy black out lining from many curatins shops for about ?15 for a pair and you just hook then to the back of your curtains with curtain hooks (no stitching required!). We had the same problem as the lined curtains we originally bought were no good as the lining was not black out lining.

If losing the roundabout could mean getting money from Tfl,then I think it coud be worth it unless people relly would like to keep the roundabout.
  12. Hi Paul If losing the roundabout means more money to spend on improvements I'm all for it! I'm not sure how much money Southwark council wants to spend, so if you can also get money from TfL then go for it unless anyone really wants to keep the roundabout. I'm all for participating in things like like, but unfortunately my past experiences involving anything to do with Southwark Council or any public bodies in Southwark has shown how utterly useless they all are and how politics are more important than what the people want. This may be a cynical view but dealing with eg the planning dept, the Southwark PCT, local councillors etc have been (with a few rare exceptions) a complete waste of time. I'm surprised the council is doing this, given that they can't even keep our streets clean (you have to go through your local councillor to get him to contact the relevant people with a bit of authority at the council - just to make sure your street gets cleaned more frequently than very couple of months!!) I'm just saying this in case you wonder why some people may be a little cynical and why some people may not even bother to put forward their ideas - which is a shame given you've taken the time to find this forum and put a posting on. Keep up the postings and I'll definitely keep on reading them and replying when you ask for ideas! Its obviously a good indicator that the council have engaged your organisation and hopefully something good will come out of it - so far you have shown a lot more willingness to obtain people's ideas than I have ever seen from the council!
  13. Pedestranised Northcross Rd market would be fantastic. Lordship Lane would be better if: - there was less rubbish - more trees were planted especially between the police station and library - need crossing by Somerfield - trees keep being removed - fair enough if it is because the pavement is too really too narrow but trees should be replaced somewhere else along Lordship Lane. There was a drive by one of the councillors to get more tress on LL a year or so ago but that has been cancelled out by the number of trees that have gone missing recently! - REALLY IMPORTANT: The roads leading off Lordship Lane and used as connections to other main roads should be better lighted: eg Whateley Road and Northcross Road are the main roads used to connect LL to Barry Road and the large residential area there (eg Friern, Landells, Upland, Underhiill Roads). You need to feel safe walking home from LL at night and in the winter but as soon as you come off LL the lighting is appalling.
