Many thanks for clearing that up Ultraconsultancy. Makes sense that the legal obligation is under contract law, would be interesting to know what tort law says on this (eg nuisance but could be v difficult to argue?!) :-S Yes businesses can get away with ugly! The council certainly will get onto businesses to make them clear up litter on their property (especially forecourts/car parks they own) so that it doesn't spread. The council also told me that it has fairly harsh words with businesses who dump their bins where they shouldn't. It is only a few who try to do this though as far as I know.

Someone told me that businesses have a legal obligation to maintain the exterior of their premises including removing graffiti - not sure if that's true but may be. Also, if you get onto your local councillor, they will action any shops/businesses that are not looking after their frontages, including clearing up litter in their forecourts.

Hi All I'll wait until late afternoon to see if anyone else wants to come or can't make it due to work/childminders/etc and then I'll ring G&B with a final number. 24 coming so far, with 3 maybe's - wow. Elfy - great you're so organised as I was beginning to wonder how it would work with so many attending now! Mogs - lovely to know that some peope already do crafts as I'm also one of those wanting to learn! Looking forward to it :)

Just a thought - when they put the booking in for 20 people, I did hear someone say in the background 'what about if they don't all turn up?' - probably the owner and its a very fair point to make if they are taking such a large booking. Therefore, if some of you can't make it due to something coming up, please could you let us know via the forum so we can adjust the booking. Many thanks and have a good weekend (the weather is supposed to be good - hurrah!)
-
Rang Green & Blue and said we may now have about 20 people and they said that was fine. I said I'd give them a call before then (on Monday/Tuesday daytime) to confirm a rough number. I spoke to the mananger and reminded them that it was for a Women's Institute planning meeting and was it okay for a gaggle of 20 women to turn up for this type of thing and they didn't seem to mind. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Quite a few people have said on this forum that it might be nice to have Northcross Rd pedestranised at weekends (although would have to look at the issue of locals needing access to their roads). Do you know what LL/Northcross traders think about this idea? -
I bet he's getting spoilt rotten now! :)):)):))

I'll forgive you this time ;-) However, I will not be hanging up my Cath Kidston pinnie and I shall continue to shop till I drop, thank you very much (although I no longer spend hours on end tottering in high heels around the shops and advocating this as the best form of exercise to all my girlfriends...) As for community hospitals, I've been actively involved in the Dulwich Hospital debate and its much, much more complex than keeping community hospitals open or opening new ones (but don't get me started on that). As for renewable energy, good for the WI getting involved in such modern issues. I've worked on Friends of the Earth campaigns, but that doesn't mean that I can't also enjoy cakes and shopping!! :))

It would be great if Somerfield was better stocked in the evenings/Sundays. If you go at either of these times, a lot of things are sold out. Having said that, Somerfield is much, much better since the revamp. I'm all for supporting local business. LL has a great variety of shops. -

Hope and Greenwood were absolutely lovely when I went in last week. Very friendly and they were giving away leftover easter eggs. -
Hi Mr Administrator Please could you tell me how I can put a link to another website in a thread? Thanks

Just a thought - I'm a trustee for a local charity (working to help the elderly) and we were looking for a qualified accountant to take over the treasurer position. If that's of interest to anyone, I can get information for you. Schools are also often looking for governors.
-
Hi All. I can make Tuesday too. You will be able to recognise me as I will be getting a blue rinse done especially for the occasion (wouldn't want to disappoint Spadetownboy) :)) I have booked a table for 10 people at 7pm on Tues, 1st May at Green & Blue. They have noted it down as being for the Women's Institute ('to be') meeting so just ask when you arrive. If anyone else wants to come along, the more the merrier. They said the wine on Tuesdays is sold at shop price. Looking forward to see you all!

Hi Nero I think it will be after the last TV shoot has been done (which is tomorrow) and one house has been fully completed. They were aiming to have one house completed by tomorrow. The TV company came around my house today looking for people to talk on camera tomorrow. I'm busy tomorrow but I'm sure some other residents will be around to give their views. My guess is that after tomorrow is over, Talisman will post again about a good time to view. I'm looking forward to finding out about all the environmental side - it should be very interesting!

I'll try anything once! I seriously would like to do some art/crafts classes though. There's some at Dulwich Picture Gallery but that's during the day. There are also art classes at Horniman Museum but its on a Saturday morning and I'm always busy on Saturdays. Anyone know of anything on in the evenings around Dulwich/surrounding areas?

There is one in West Dulwich called Kingswood Dulwich WI - according to www.womens-institute.org.uk. Not very convenient for ED - I would like something easy to walk to rather than having to get in the car. Does anyone know how I can create a link to the website?

Strange things afoot at the Circle K

The Chinese medicine place - its run by a Chinese lady who is a qualified doctor (trained in China and also at one of the London teaching hospitals - St Thomas's I think). She also does acupuncture and other alternative therapies. Very nice lady. The DIY shop is brill - very helpful and never make you feel stupid. Groceries/newspapers/Post Office is also very useful and the shop part is open all day on Sundays. Southside Lighting stocks some very good quality lighting and the guy in there is very helpful. Its good to be able to get this sort of thing locally. Its also useful having the dry-cleaners there. The rest of it I am not bothered about, but I will give that veg place a go. Next time I pop into the Post Office I will ask if they know what is going on. I think a coffee place could do well - there's lots of passing trade especially with the Library and Dulwich Park being 2 minutes from those shops. -
Hi Katie and Spymum A WI in ED that talks about classic things like cooking but also things like fashion and shopping sounds good!! I also really like the idea of being able to try new crafts. Something in the evening would be great. A reading group doesn't appeal to me as much as its a narrow focus and I like the idea of a wide range of things to do and discuss. Good idea Katie!

Where should I take my Mun for dinner on Monday?
Ko replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes the food is good at Springers. Went last week and I had mushroom risotto and Mr Ko had seafood taglitelle (which I also helped myself to!) Both were very yummmy and service was excellent. -

The Crystal Palace place with umbrellas is also good. James - There's a new Thai opened in Forest Hill called Thai Orchard (www.thaiorchard.com) opposite the station. Vegetarian friends of mine say it is good - the website is not finished yet but it does have a small vegetarian menu. My friends say that the owner will also do vegetarian versions of a lot of the meat dishes, but to ask when you book as they have only gone during weekday evenings when it is less busy - you might want to ring and ask about the oyster/fish sauce issue. I am going to try it soon.

Hi Snowboarder. That was weird because my neighbour told me yesterday that he'd just been snowboarding and then he said he wanted to go along and see the eco-houses. My neighbour said it was the first time he had done snowboarding and that he loved it! I might have to try it one day.
