Hi - last night at Police Ward Panel the woman in charge of the Southwark Cemeteries came along to report that Honor Oak Crematorium and Cemetery Office had been broken in to and also vandalism and damage had occurred in the cemetery area recently. Whilst the meeting took place, Nunhead cemetery was itself burgled. The thieves apparently climbed over the walls, then sawed through bars outside a small toilet window within, and then nicked a laptop and stuff. They could only steal what they could then carry back over the walls. The police are concentrating on this problem and took prints and so on, but may I just make a plea for us all to be alert when going past such places? I once felt a tad embarrassed when one night going past a shop and realising there were people in there and a white van outside. But I reported it and was told by the owner it was a small party, but he thanked me anyway for being suspicious and calling it in. So please - be aware. Thanks!

Where would you make the cuts?
PeckhamRose replied to Huguenot's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
WHere would I make cuts? I'd cut the big bonus culture, I'd cut three or four levels of management within the NHS and I'd nationalise shampoo. One shampoo cleans all hair. Sorry but I'm having a bad hair day. Mind you as a motorcyclist every bloody day's a bad hair day. -
Sue - what has "we live in South London" got to do with ANYTHING. Also - Some Say leaving the engine running for a few minutes uses up less energy than turning it off, then turning it on again. Meanwhile, at the Police Ward Panel last night that I notified everyone about and to which all of those who were able to come to, came to... lots of information was shared and discussed.

MrPR once bought a rare Italian racing bike off someone he knew. It had been covered with a can of paint from a great height and had had a few collisions with a hammer. This guy's wife had clearly been upset by something he did, but we never knew what. But this guy got rid of his bike rather than his woman. So that must be some woman.

What an education we get here! Thanks for that! A mate used to live in Southall and taught me the trick that you should only go to the little restaurants you see the locals going to. Same can be said for Chinese and so on. I don't have a sophisticated experienced enough palate to know the best Indian food, but this thread has taught me alot! Must try Ganapati since everyone creams over it...

The need to breed is something one has or one does not have. If we stop breeding - nature science chemicals and stuff will take back the planet and maybe it will be alright. We won't know or care, because we won't be here. Oh - and to a poster above - my parents didn't want me. I was an accident. Had they not had me, I wouldn't know so it wouldn't matter. I think kids should choose their parents that's for sure! Having a womb and all the workings, doesn't necessarily mean the 'right' (loving caring conscientious) people have kids.

Can I also suggest on this thread people invest in a carbon monoxide alarm too in case their gas fires are not healthy? I agree with much of the above - I have my mobile phone next to the bed and whilst pretty much everything is in my laptop, my bag is also next to the bed which includes everything from medication to purse and cards and appt diary. I may start a new thread re first aid kits but I have one on my motorcycle in one of the panniers. Get trained in first aid, people!

Yes. It's got a nice vibe about it. It's pleasant, people do say hello to you on the street especially if you say hello first. There are snobs and loads of NIMBYs and reactionaries, but there's good people too. And it's up to you to ask not what ED can do for you but what you can do for ED - Ooooohh yes.

So all my ideas were a waste of time? They weren't even all outdoors! Shame about the weather.

Hope you get royalties!

Never wanted them. Like attracts like - all but one of my friends are similarly happily childfree. (But PLEASE don't mistake this for not liking kids. And they seem to like me!)

Swine Flu jabs. Are you going to have one?

Swine Flu jabs. Are you going to have one?
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Keef and sorry you're suffering. My doctor said it is the needle passing through the skin and muscle of the arm that is causing the discomfort in this case (she went on to explain but I nearly passed out) and not the stuff itself. I am better now from what caused me to cancel and have rebooked. Thanks for the warning. -
So tell us what you will do!

Well, we've got everything else!

Having just read the article I admire the man but no way will I vote for a Conservative or anyone else who says what religion they are as if that makes a difference. The comments after the article are as interesting as the article itself. The anecdote about the baby crawling around the bare council flat floor with dog faeces on the floor, has nothing to do with poverty and need for action from 'above', it has to do with not letting people have dogs (or kids... but that's another matter) if they can't look after them and can't prove they have the simple intellectual capacity or realisation that said faeces may need picking up. Anyway, whilst I have a lot of criticisms about our own current MP, I do NOT think she is ignorant of poverty, but she has become rather to institutionalised now, and does need reminding of things. Also, the man's need to go on about the religious side of his nature is a huge problem. To me that's a mental problem. It has nothing to do with poverty and politics. And that's my opinion!

Welcome back mate. An element of silliness is not a BAD thing, so don't forget to have fun too....

Legalise pepper spray as a means of self defense?
PeckhamRose replied to Y'man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Wasn't it some mace or pepper spray the police used on that guy at some march, and he had been proven to be just an innocent member of the march? -
If the new jar is too tight, run it under hot water and maybe also put on a pair of rubber gloves to get a better grip. NEVER put lenses in or take lenses out OVER A SINK!

Swine Flu jabs. Are you going to have one?
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Interesting you had 'two part'? How come everyone else is having a one part? And when did you have it? The swine flu jabs were only rolled out about 4 weeks ago and they're all just one injection. Maybe the first jab you had was the ordinary flu jab. Sorry you suffered an effect. -
National Insurance contributions and their worth.
PeckhamRose replied to Y'man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mic Mac that's rubbish: "If someone decides to go private that only helps take the stress off the NHS." Who trained the doctors and nurses? Probably NHS and thus our money. Then they go and leave. Yeah, really helpful! -
National Insurance contributions and their worth.
PeckhamRose replied to Y'man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am very sorry you feel you have to go private. I was due for a consultation this morning at Kings and for the second time my consultant never showed and I had a funeral to deliver so had to leave. The last time the excuse was traffic, this time his boiler had blown, so he would be an hour late. Life happens and humans are humans but I have a life and people replying on me too - and this consultation was a long time coming. But I had to go. AND YET this man is the most well respected consultant in his field. Financially I have no choice but the NHS, but morally I kinda feel that way too. So now I have to wait another long time. I wish you well, and I hope things are sorted out for you too. -
Go to World's End, walk along the river and around Chelsea Harbour, then get a number 11 all the way to Liverpool Street Station which takes you past a lot of touristy London, but then walk around the City, visit the Guildhall, go to St Paul's and climb up the Monument. Take a bus or DLR to Isle of Dogs and enjoy a walk around there and the City Farms all over the place. Get the tide times and walk along the River. Visit Kew Gardens. Do the Fullers Brewery Tour. Have a drink in a pub on the Strand on the Green. Walk around Green Park and St James's Park. Go to some fringe theatre. Go to Battersea and look at the power station close up. Look at the views from Blackheath Park. Walk around the Dome's perimeter and see the wildlife being encouraged on to the shores of the Thames by some good design within the river walls there. Take a river cruise. Ohhhhhhhh it's what I do!

Love that shot from the future and I can see all of London from my little flat. I am so lucky. I can't wait for the shard and the other big buildings to go up! Places to visit include Geffrye Museum, Mudchute City Farm and Surrey Docks Farm, and when the tide is out you can walk down to the river from many places including the stairs right next to Surrey Docks Farm, and along the city areas too. Love Chelsea and the Michelin building area. Love Worlds End area and the little park called Cremorne Gardens, what's left of it - used to be a massive area and known as a den of inequity(!) in the 1800s. My grandparents and Dad came from there. Love the backstreets of Dulwich, the listed library buildings. Love being a motorcyclist and going all over everywhere and that is often what I do for my work even though I am not a courier! LOVE walking around the City at night and weekends. Love LONDON!

New Cross Middle bit of Isle of Dogs. I like the top bit for the new architecture and the bottom bit for the fabulous Mudchute City Farm. Bow. Bromley by Bow.
