  1. "Peckham Rose - why not get things started by using this topic to let us know what's important to you?" I did. See my post above. And while we're at it, stop putting our collective money in faith schools. I applaud you, seriously I do, for genuinely wanting to make things better, but that limited badly worded survey was not a good start to get our opinions. I suppose I'll vote for my Labour candidates again but only because they're the best of a bad lot. I'm not stupid enough to think that just because we hear about the money grabbing ones, that you're all like that. I have had local (Labour) councillors who have been incredibly helpful to me and my neighbours. But they did not use questionnaires to introduce themselves. They knocked on the door or spoke at Community Council, Police Ward Panel, or residents/tenants meetings.
  2. I did not and would not ever suggest people do not engage with their local politicians. I suggested people should not bother filling out a badly worded 'leading questions' questionnaire. Why don't they just set up a topic like the StationManager and the LibDem one has, and get started - and scroll through this site and see what troubles all of us. Having said that - we are hardly representative of the area in general I suspect. And thank you Moos for your kind comments - no disrespect received! Indeed you can see from my signature thingy I care about the wider world.
  3. Apologies for my mistake. I genuinely thought they had stopped broadcasting as I thought I remembered hearing from some station that that was the case. Facetious? Me? ;) Meanwhile, I am devoted to Planet Rock for the rest of the day after Radio Four mornings till the end of Woman's Hour. Peckham'RockOn'Rose
  4. They're not doing bad in the cities though, and I myself took up the invitation by Southwark Council - when seeing a flyer at the Southwark In Blooms festival in Peckham Rye Park earlier this year - to go on a southwark funded free bee keeping course run by Barnaby Shaw at Walworth City Garden. Whilst I can't keep them personally, I learned a lot about the problems and the workings of the hive, and also learned that indeed bees are doing very well in city hives. But at Sopers the other day they wanted ?4.85 I think it was for a small jar. Which I can't afford! I think putting money into trying to find an answer to the problem is a good idea, yes. And I am sorry my little contribution to this debate was not as interesting or knowledgeable or as well researched as the wonderful Huguenot's!
  5. "sort things out" is how a lot of us put it. And Labour has had since 1997 to do so. Instead all the money that it throws at problems goes on middlemen and the target culture. The problem is that whilst individual councillors may be concerned about the bottom 84% of the population, the government (made of a party which has completely forgotten its roots) is not, which is why when it is trying to save money it is hammering us in many ways - for example the changes in the benefit system (and I personally do not think benefits should be universal. If a joint income is more than say ?40,000 you do NOT need child benefit). If you're rich you can afford your prescriptions but only diabetics for some curious reason are allowed free ones, whilst heart condition/asthmatics etc have to pay and I can not afford all the prescriptions I need to stay healthy, let alone when I get ill. With a government like that, why should I trust councillors who align themselves to that very same party? Having said that, I would die before voting Tory (probably from not being able to afford my prescriptions!) - and LibDems are only good in areas where there is relative affluence. But back to topic, I stand by what I said about the survey.
  6. Thanks Brendan! As I said I'm having it, be good to hear other's thoughts though.
  7. Nope, because the station has stopped broadcasting.
  8. I am on a list at the doctors to get one free because I have related lung problems. I decided to go ahead and have it. I had the regular flu jab last week. Will I die as a result of the jab?! Seriously though - I have read as much as I can and a part of me is saying - if I get swine flu it could have serious consequences not just for me with already bad lungs, but those I pass it on to. So I'll go for the jab. Others are saying no way, it's not been tested enough. What do you lot think?
  9. I did some work, and had to use A Bus. As a result I got a bad cold.
  10. The questionnaire is typical of questionnaires made up by people with a bias who want to hear what they want to hear. The questions are limited, leading and of no use to most people. Don't bother filling out this questionnaire.
  11. hip hip and he's buggering orf for 2 weeks. What an encore. I think he should change the notice above to: "Due to national exposure, a few more million than normal visited us and the site can't cope so we're closing it down for 2 weeks whilst we make it even better." Then come back as it was / is now, and THEY won't know it's not always been this brilliant.
  12. Sooo cool, the night before a 2 week close down. But sh about it - or we may start having to pay!
  13. I saw LadyMuck's name on EDF on BBC News and spat my wine over the cat.
  14. Good for you Victoria Mills!
  15. I do not own a dog. I own a cat. Admittedly a cat who hates going out. I am glad the SNT will look at what is happening. I shall raise it at the next SNT meeting. As I am sure you all will when you also come along.
  16. John Hegley's The Deep End. I deep end on you... etc etc (No time to find it right now)
  17. Guess I am not selected then! (Not that this place has its elite then!)
  18. Watching Pat Condell's videos. eBay and sell my junk Facebook If the weather stays good, go OUT. My motorcycle forum. www.thelondonbikers.com And yes, the W word. Course, many lunchtimes in the Clockhouse so could meet some of you too!
  19. And also PLEASE remember that irresponsible dog owners do not read signs that tell them to do this or that, and don't care about orders. And if no-one witnesses their actions or is willing to write a statement, what can you do. To have an entire area as a bad area because of one owner (who may then move), is not a good idea. And if they do move, how long before bureacracy allows the area to be allowed to be called a good area again. This is daft. I am terribly sorry about what happens, but don't target areas - target people. So I will not write to my councillor about control orders for designated areas. I WILL ask the snt team to look into being more aware of those dog owners to fine them. Again we are looking to punish ALL dog owners because of the actions of a few. Most dogs I see are well trained loved dogs, and their owners are responsible. And seeing those dogs walk off lead up the road is not a problem. A few are clearly not responsible and need to be targetted but please don't punish them all. (See? Everyone's being turned into a criminal!)
  20. And to reiterate. it is ALWAYS important to log all such calls to the police. If they don't turn up when they should, that's another issue. But if every such occurance was logged then the police would be able to target their resources more appropriately. Apparently!
  21. Me and reetpetite live on the same block I think and indeed I also got post every day. Do go down and ask them though, Highshore Road off the other end of Rye Lane is where the sorting office is.
  22. State sponsored religious schools. Grrrr!
  23. They're really not invisible. I am not a councillor but I have had use of mine now and again and if you look in here or on the websites (Southwark) you'll find them. You can always remind them that you are a voter. Some are not good but some do work hard and have full time jobs. Most people don't need them I suppose, but when they suddsenly do they expect them to be there for them at the click of their fingers. Go to your local Community Council meetings (info on Southwark Website) and raise your concerns there along with other interested people. They don't know to look for you!
  24. Yes We should to send our letters to THEM by recorded or special delivery, but when we don't get THEIR letters because they DON'T send their letters by recorded or special delivery, we're in trouble for not responding! It's very unfair against us.
  25. I am gunna get SO MUCH WORK DONE! You so deserve the break. Have a great holiday and I am sorry you have to deal with so many idiots! Edited to delete the wank I wrote before reading ALL the previous posts! Edited again to see if - when I write cookwank - it comes out properly because just writing the 'w' word it didn't! Edited AGAIN to see that it DID! HA! Send us an e-card - oh wait, we won't be able to read it!
