  1. That's a really nice/interesting thing you wrote there, Angetastic. Great comfort indeed. I remember a similar situation where a mother who had to organise her daughter's funeral found out she had monthly payments to charities which her mother knew nothing about, and had willed money to a friend, and these helped her greatly to know more about her daughter than she otherwise might ever have done, despite the great sadness. I would say that the answer to the topic's question for me personally, is 'no' it does not signal the end, it makes it easier in a way because you know you have made life a bit easier for those who have to deal with all your stuff. It's doing something impotrant to save other people having to do it when they're least able. Tidying the desk of your life.
  2. Block Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I have always found that they get their > comeuppance in the end... what comes around goes > around... Nonsense. Do you think the victims of the Lockerbie bombers feel this way? I had my little bike run over once by a short woman in a big 4x4. She claimed she could not see it as it was parked behind her car as she reversed. I told her her child was smaller than my bike and to buy a special attachment for her car available at all John Lewis stores: a CUSHION. The look on her face was priceless. Her insurance paid the damage and I wrote and told them they should not be insuring people to drive their cars who can not technically drive it safely. That gave me some satisfaction, but (safe) revenge stories are better to read!
  3. My Grandad was in Breakfast at Tiffany's I think. Is this the one where Deborah Kerr is seen entering The Ritz hotel? The Chief Doorman was my Grandad and he was filmed opening the door for her in the film. (If this WAS the film!) I've been on hoiday - can anyone confirm this scene happens in this film? Must get a DVD copy if it is! Thanks!
  4. Not much goes on there? You must be joking. I'll forward this link to the new Secretary.
  5. Born in 58. Been self employed 30 years so the only benefits I am allowed is maternity, and I never wanted nor did I have, kids. Started a personal pension plan when 29, but have never been able to afford much, and what is there is very reduced now. Altho self employed, never earned more than ?15,000 a year and - as I said - not entitled to any benefits. So sorry if I took anything I was not entitled to. Please don't tar us all with the same brush!
  6. I have not got any money really, but taking LegalEagle's point, I would say I did say who could have the motorcycles and my better stuff, and also what form my funeral should take. Oh and it states who gets the flat. I have always been aware of death! Never waste a day. Easier said than done, but I am writing this from Newcastle - middle of a 2 week road trip and mostly small towns, but never been to Newcastle before and very lovely it is too. Psychologically speaking I think it's about time this taboo of death was indeed smashed. We're gunna DIE!!!!!!!!
  7. louisiana, do you wear make up? I love my tattoos. I have two. One is a large tarantula that does look lifelike but the one on my arm is the Happy Human logo of the British Humanist Association, kinda done because it's a GREAT colour, and I am sick of seeing big black crosses tattood on people! It's only about two inches long.
  8. Today's great thinkers include AC Grayling and Richard Dawkins. Today's politicians won't touch great thinking, even political thinking, with a barge pole. Politicians are in an age where there is so much selfishness ( as a result of a lot of us having lived through GOOD times that we don't want to let go of, and a lot of poverty watching telly seeing what the rest of us have ) yet everything in public life has to be done to committee, not individuals. I think we will "muddle through" (well put) because we won't all die all at once so there is no option but to muddle through. Something like swine flu or a worse variation popping lots of us off might make a difference, and then the great thinkers will be the white coats working out the antivirals!
  9. Keef, indeed. So a YES for me then. (Sorry, don't do out of date politics language.)
  10. I think this Drawing Room idea is crap. Most people don't know what they are if they have one in their big ED homes, and others may not know the historical significance of them. Lounge - Drawing Room - Kitchen. Just rooms in a House. Chair - I would like to have an EGM about the getting rid of Drawing Room or renaming it to "Serious discussions about stuff only, no really" thread.
  11. I put my signature in just to remind people to do reeeeally important stuff. I've worked in places where - when the person had not done the will thing - it reeeeeeeally mattered and caused so much grief for people as a result. So not apologising for it. The rest is just good socially aware stuff.
  12. Can't be considered true till it's googled, can it. Come on Sue (feelthe noize) we ALL know Dig A Pony! I tried getting my Mum into Motown. She was racist. Oh dear. Recently I realised I was listening and rather enjoying the beautiful tones of Matt Monroe. Damn it.
  13. Serious Clown Discussions though. In this house the lounge is where everything that doesn't happen in the kitchen or bathroom or bedroom happen. Actually that's not quite true. But we don't have a drawing room, so it's out of date and daftly named.
  14. Malware is great, AVG Antivirus did not catch the malware I had.
  15. I think the Drawing Room idea is daft because it relates back to a time when, after dinner, men would retire to the drawing room to discuss business and politics whilst the wives did the clearing up or their servants did, so the wives tended to the kids, or their nannies did, so the wives did played on the harpsicord, or giggled and played cards and talked about being over-charged at Somerfield. I just think it should be called "Serious heavyweight debate room"
  16. I used to use Golden Eye Ointment years ago; it got rid of conjunctivitis. Now I use a little bicarbonate of soda in filtered water and use that to rinse my eyes. I had some fungal infection under my nail once and used to pour a drip of tea tree oil down it every night, and it went after a month. It probably would not have done otherwise! Meanwhile to fight off hay fever, eating honey from local bee hives works.
  17. You're joking Sean. With people like you to chair? Noooo ta!
  18. So, in The Drawing Room, who elected The Chair, to be the Chair? Eh? Pahhh
  19. I totally agree re. that American type sign. They make sense except people over here would not know about taking turns to go across! A roundabout may work but you'd need four zebra crossings on the roads leading to it. Ho hum.
  20. It's not my Community COuncil area but I'm with you on that - and we do raise the problems with our Nunhead and Peckham Rye area. And of course they listen, which is why there are more bumps and traffic lights than ever before and STILL the bad drivers drive badly.
  21. Get laid, Sean, lighten up a bit, yeah?
  22. Yeah more traffic lights, every single junction preferably, more bumps in between every junction, more and more things to punish the already sensible driver. Or... we could concentrate on the training of drivers and punishing more sensibly those whose driving skills are found wanting and retrain them. Just a thought.
  23. Well anyway, littlebluefish, thank you very much for your advice and I have taken it. I use Facebook quite a bit.
  24. I'm not going because of a technicality. "Ne1" makes me shudder!
