  2. ok, ok, it's just banter and BBW - who (s)he? a very entertaining thread, so thanks Ggbr!
  3. I'm beginning to wonder why Gingerbeer seems to have nothing better to do than to flirt with her(?) prospective ED homies Maybe she(?) needs some local 'waived chums' a la Michael P?:)
  4. Don't give up on me - solomon burke
  5. See http://raybradburyboard.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6891083901/m/8881066863 for a spookily similar quest! I've never read this story myself but will seek it out, as it clearly left an impression on its (young) readers.
  6. So the reason for the unsightliness is the football?

  9. yup, as Sue says, plans are indeed afoot for a Crystal Palace Road street party - but probably not on the day of the the Jubilee Some reasons why - the day of the Jubilee day is very early in the year, so high risk of cold weather/rain (like last year's ultra-sodden Big Lunch) - the Jubilee is being marked by extra Bank holidays, so high risk of low attendance as lots of people will be going away (like at last year's sparsely attended Big Lunch) - and last but not least, the republican spirit seems to burn bright in the breasts of the Crystal Palace Road Street Party Organizing Committee (or CPRSPOC to those in the know) Anyway, we are waiting to hear from Southwark if they'll let us close the road for free later in the year. KK, PM me if you need info about getting permission.
  10. they probably heard about the party at lousmith's - seems to have been quite a do ;-)

  17. DJKQ, SP doesn't 'acknowledge that speed had nothing to do with the accident', just states that s/he does not know the facts. Most of us are in the same position - we don't know the facts - so I don't understand what you mean by 'data'. Since all we've got is anecdote, I'll add my own to the mix. I too have seen quite a few racers on that stretch of the road while walking my dog on Goose Green and thereabouts, and not just the ones trying to beat the traffic lights. IMO that crossing hardly adequate for a junction that serves a school, a children's playground, a green space that's used by dog-walkers, as well as a parade of shops. If we haven't had more accidents at that spot, that's just testimony to better pedestrian road-sense than a lot of the drivers who've posted on this thread would credit.
  18. why would we need a poll? and what would it achieve? it's a commercial decision for the supermarkets after all if someone wants a local Waitrose, then why don't they just pay whatever it takes to buy a house near one? 29 yet?
  19. Hurry and be the first to review this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avene-Pediatril-Cradle-Crap-40ml/dp/B002PK4DD8/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_2 or should I have posted it on the Family threads?
  20. better luck next time, Jah! witnessed a battle over the scarce resources offered by our bird table this morning - two crows v. one (grey) squirrel I'm sure the crows were thinking 'they come over here, they steal our peanuts...'
  21. BB100 wrote > I have seen them in flocks hound some of our local birds by constantly following them and pecking at them if they land. hmmm...gang activity? I believe our native magpies are notorious for bullying smaller birds and killing their fledgelings. I've also seen plenty of bird remains left by our local cats. If I were a 'local bird', I'm sure I'd rather be pecked at by a parakeet than run the gauntlet of pampered ED felines.
