  1. Small barbecue party top end of the park tonight around 9pm. Looked like a tray. Too far to see whether they'd made an effort to keep it off the grass. I hope so. Shame to go round creating burning patches like that.
  2. Yes, it's a great way to recycle and I always do that for things that still work. The things still knocking around my house are the things that don't.
  3. Thanks, I did check, it really is a fantastic service. Something like 14 items a month! When I lived in Lambeth, many moons ago admittedly, it was 8 items per year and I thought that was great. Compare that to where my folks live in Wales where they have to pay to have something like a fridge collected. The one area Southwark seems to neglect is collection of small recyclable items like kettles, phones etc. The advice is always to take them down to the depot but if you aren't very mobile, that can be problematic. I'm sure a lot of that type of stuff must end up in landfill. I may try booking a few such items with the collection of the fridge and freezer..
  4. "..keep the surface off the grass or we will end up with burnt patches all over the place." Which is exactly what some ignorant *$%!'s don't seem to give a toss about because that's exactly what they do.
  5. The fridge's thermosat has gone and the freezer sounds like a animal in distress. Besides which, even if new parts could be obtained, the way they were installed, or rather the way the flooring was installed butting up tight in front of their feet means I may have to cut the legs down to get them out from under the counter :-( As for calling Southwark, brilliant idea. Lol, I've got Saturday on the brain.
  6. One thing that occurs to me is the removal of such large trees with even larger root systems could surely cause an issue with subsidence/heave in itself.
  7. Thanks. Will you let me know what you find out? There is such a lot of bird and squirrel activity in those trees. I'm trying - not very successfully - to be sanguine about it..
  8. Does Southwark collect fridges/freezers as part of bulky waste collection? Hard to tell from their website.
  9. One large ash a few doors down from me came down earlier this week. I assumed it was because it was diseased as friends living nearer had complaining about it. Then when I heard the chainsaws from a different direction this morning, I managed to collar one of the guys doing the work and he told me they were all coming down as Thames Water suspected damage to the reservoir. I queried why it needed to be done now when wildlife is breeding etc. I've never seen a big tree come down before and hadn't realised just what a sad sight it is.
  10. Thames Water plan to fell all the trees bordering the Aquarius, some of which are truly magnificent. Feeling sad :-(
  11. Went to a Peckham Vision meeting back in December which was attended by members of Southwark's Planning Dept. Southwark are revisiting the status of their green spaces with a view to making changes.
  12. Not like it's the OP's first post on this forum. Possibly rat poison seeing as there's a lot of chicks around at the moment. Perhaps those signs are in place to prevent such incidents not just to protect the wildlife and plantings. Shame so many people don't seem to give a toss. Really sorry for the dog that's been poisoned, hope it's not a malicious poisoner.
  13. Going off at a tangent...The mention of barbecues has jogged a memory of the charcoaled patch left behind on the Rye last week. I saw a party of people with a tray barbecue on the bowling green at Brockwell Park several years back. Seriously, what kind of people think it's OK to do that?
  14. Anyone else noticed strawberries from the garden infested with tiny maggots? The Asian fruit fly appears to have struck.. Feeling queasy.
  15. Then there's Yada's at the end of the side alley by Ali's Greengrocers & veg stall. Opened a couple of weeks ago. Haven't eaten there yet but it looks interesting - Kurdish food.
  16. What about Belair House? The gardens there look rather lovely.
  17. I gave up on the Dulwich Dental Clinic at 78 Lordship Lane a few years ago after my mouth was left grazed and bleeding in several places following a salt blast cleaning session. The dentist just wasn't paying attention and failed to notice when it was blasting away on the soft tissue.
  18. Yep, I'd just ask them to move their kit. Strange anyone should think it OK to take up so much space with their stuff at busy times when a business could be making a living.
  19. Ah the Nines is where they were running 'Taste of Christmas' - or similar sounding name - during the festive season. They were trialling stuff to see what might work best. Look forwards to checking it out again for the big reveal.
  20. When I lost my young cat in similar circumstances, it really helped to know what had happened. Well done Kristen. So sorry for the loss of Chuck, you must be heartbroken :-(
  21. Sometimes the qualified doctors don't get the diagnosis right so a person may have to go back repeatedly trying to get help. For example, a close family member spent two dreadful years trying to get a diagnosis from her GP, a man not known for his brilliant mind. Eventually, she had to go private by which time she was seriously unwell with systemic lupus.
  22. Down on Rye Lane: K&S Arcade next to Khans, soon to be renamed Holdron's Arcade, is being populated with new businesses such as YAM Records (vintage and new release), Nest (clothing), Love (african textiles), Bussey Exchange (shopfront for the artists and makers in the Bussey), and Peckham Vision where you can go to find out what's in store for the redevelopment of the area e.g. the station area, the multi-story & Morrison's carparks, plus the idea for the Green Line walkway - it's a great chance to get involved and have some say in the future shape of the area. Downstairs in the Bussey Basement is a bar, Bhan Bhan Thai street food, and vinyl sales. About 1/2 way back down the side of the Bussey where the carpark opens up, there's Taste of Christmas - bar with food. Early days, they are using this time before Christmas to see what works, what doesn't. It's also got an events space. The transformation of the Discount Decorating premises into a pub of the Antic persuasion is underway.
  23. If it has been there for two days without coming out, it may be sick or injured. Mating season doesn't typically start til January. You definitely don't want foxes living under your decking so once you've got it out, make sure to secure it so they can't move back in.
  24. I wonder if this is the bengal another poster contacted me about a few weeks ago. They messaged me by mistake as I'd responded to a missing bengal post. Cat called Arthur described as always starving and riddled with tapeworm, Townley Rd area?
