  1. I've been trying to get a leak in my roof repaired. Having lost a couple of months to one highly recommended tradesperson who to be fair did come round to spec out the work but didn't follow through with the quote, I've since called and left messages for three more recommended roofers but not one call back. Is it a thing with roofers that you have to leave multiple messages before they'll respond? Feeling a little desperate as almost three months later I appear to be no closer to getting this sorted and Autumn is now upon us.
  2. I used Paul at Scenic. I had wooden french doors and some existing upvc units that had blown replaced almost a year ago. He was a pleasure to do business with - straightforward, no selling, good price. I was and still am very pleased with the result.
  3. Has anyone tried Belair House since it's been refurbished? The location seems fitting for a special occasion but is the food any good?
  4. As much as it was an awful experience for the kids to have been on the recieving end of a mugging, I'm sure your action will have made all the difference to how they may have been affected by it. Really well done for intervening.
  5. Obtaining money under false pretences is the crime commonly known as fraud. It's a police matter.
  6. Ah, what a worry. Best post this in the Lost / Found forum. Good luck finding him.
  7. La Querce is one of my favourite locals. The Gantry near Brockley Station is also well worth checking out.
  8. I'm surprised by the negative reviews too but I guess everyone has an off patch. I've had Niko round a couple of times. Can't fault him. He's turned up on time, sorted the issue, and we've had a laugh while he's getting on with it. I really don't recall whether he suggested I might recommend him here or not but I wouldn't have minded had he done seeing as I was pleased with the result and after all it's such a small thing to do to help someone build up their business.
  9. Debunking Israel's 11 Main Myths about Gaza, Hamas and War Crimes http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/mehdi-hasan/gaza-israel_b_5624401.html?1406545029&ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000067
  10. Guera, if I were you, having already spoken to them with regard to the nuisance, I'd be keeping a diary of when they start and stop, and calling that number as soon as they exceed the permitted working hours. What do the noise team say each time?
  11. Check your building insurance, it may include cover for drains. Otherwise, the businesses / trades forum might be your best bet for recommendations for a drain repair company, they tend to do cctv type surveys too. Small consolation I know but thank the lord it's not bubbling up every time you flush the toilet.
  12. Southwark regs for construction works: Monday to Friday - 8am to 6pm Saturday - 8am to 1pm Sundays and Bank Holidays - No Working Needs a special license outside these hours. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/412/noise_problems/379/construction_noise
  13. I've used Spin Doctor Steve. Very good. Plenty of recommendations in the relevant forum.
  14. Being a relatively considerate person, I wouldn't dream of going out and calling my cat in so late as a matter of course. The exception being when people start letting off fireworks late.
  15. I was living in Brixton when Picturehouse took over the Ritzy, prices seemed to rocket over the years. Membership included free previews at around midday on Sundays every six weeks or so but no idea whether this is still a thing or not. Certainly reduced price membership for residents had died a death by the time I moved over here. Last time I went to the Ritzy was a couple of years ago - pretty sure it was around ?12 a ticket, I wasn't the one buying so it may well have included a booking fee. I just remember feeling a bit gutted on my friend's behalf to have paid so much for Warhorse. I second the hope that by the time this one opens, the Ritzy workers will have won their campaign for a living wage and it extends to the staff across all the Picturehouses.
  16. Good luck with Arnold. He does a good face-to-face apology which ultimately left me feeling fobbed off as he didn't bother responding to follow up emails/voicemails over a different matter.
  17. A continuous high pitched whining is hardly going to be a bike thief, unless they're on a roll.
  18. Underpinned twice and still signs of subsidence, I wouldn't touch it.
  19. f.y.il Japanese Knotweed has a growth pattern reminiscent of bamboo. It dies back completely in Winter, emerging in Spring as fast growing green/purplish canes. It can grow metres tall and has heartish shaped leaves with sprays of tiny white flowers. If you happen to be passing by of the council block on the corner of Nunhead Lane and the Rye, there's a stand of it growing amongst the shrubs on the corner.
  20. What a shame you were misinformed about the type of bags. You can get the big brown paper bags free from the office based at Peckham Library. No need to show ID. Great service when you've got a lot of garden waste to dispose of.
  21. If you do put something down, place it well clear of any cover cats may use to pounce from. I use a large textured plastic plant pot saucer & change the water every day to reduce the risk of transmitting disease but also because the fox likes to crap in it from time to time.. RSPB advice http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/water/birdbaths.aspx It's a delight to see birds bathing :-)
  22. "this is East Dulwich for heavens sake?!" *sighs* I wouldn't be happy with sealant slathered on like that regardless of where I lived.
  23. My partner rented a flat in Norman Court up until 12 years ago. It was at one point the most complained about privately owned block of flats in Southwark according to a council surveyor who came round at his request to check out the horrible damp/mould problem in his flat. It turned out the roof had been fitted incorrectly and didn't drain so there was water up there the whole year round. There is - or was - a spring under one side of the building. According to the guys who were attempting to divert it, the whole building was on the slide. This may all have been rectified but I'd be asking some serious questions if I were you prior to buying there.
  24. I went for the white gloss. The texture of the chipboard is clearly visible on the edges of the drawer and cupboard fronts. A small but not insignificant thing: The edges of Ikea's shelving appear to have a very slight bevel which in practise means they are less subject to damage such as chipping. The edges of my shelves are all manked up, even in those cupboards which don't get so much traffic.
