Every politician, at every level, is a snollygoster then! Malumbu, we can definitely agree on one thing, Corbyn would have been an absolutely disaster, on most fronts, for this country! Backbenchers are there for a reason and his rise to lead Labour was a great example of the power behind the scenes needs not to be more important than the person weilding the power! To be fair only seconded by Ed being chosen over David! If only, if only, if only...hindsight is a powerful thing...

No points or prosecutions for me either. A FPN notice or two when councils starting giving them out like confetti. Malumbu, that is one hell of a rap sheet - you seem to have been a very dangerous driver in your time...I presume you are now a born-again courteous driver?

I bet the council's lawyers are busy trying to work out how water-tight those "consultations" were....

Hardly a daft question. Not since the first CPZ consultation has the council put a simple yes/no question and I wonder if that would not be a robust consultation in the eyes of the ULEZ judge. If so, Southwark and others may have problems during the Tory led review.

Interesting that the judicial review on ULEZ was based on a consultation where people we asked whether they supported it or not (59% said no). I do wonder whether the judge would have viewed it differently if no such question was asked and whether the Tories realise this and why they are requesting the LTN review. Any legal experts have a view?

Don't ask for permission beg for forgiveness if it becomes a problem. The Southwark system is not built for such things and whilst you are supposed to get it reviewed and approved the system is built for house extensions etc. When we did it and went for approval it became a real challenge because they wanted architectural drawings etc and no-one goes to that level of detail for a bike shed. My advice would be as long as your neighbours won't complain the go for it. Keep it within the Asgard size bike shed sizes and you should be fine.

Ha ha...reverting to type...also known as pointing out what really happened rather than the council's version of events.... Can someone remind me how long it took the council to removal the barrier for emergency services? Look how quick they managed to put in a right filter at the DV/Red Post Hill junction to alleviate the queuing traffic caused by the cycle lane they put in at the lights for comparative purposes....

Mr Chicken...you know I didn't write the Bloomberg article right? Fascinating piece isn't it and so many of the problems seen in Amsterdam seem to have found their way to other cities like London too, wouldn't you agree? How do you think we mitigate the issues around cyclists and bad cycling?

You forgot to mention that it is NOW open to emergency services. It took many, many months of lobbying by emergency services to get the council to remove the permanent roadblock that was hampering response times and was putting lives at risk - it's all in writing from the numerous FOIs that people have used to obtain from the correspondence from LAS etc to the council on the matter. It appears you have been drinking heavily from the council Kool-Aid hose and the reality is very different and reflects very badly on the council. And in Peckham Rye the council ignored the emergency service counsel that they did not want immovable road closures and were going to proceed with permanent closures (before the council u-turned on the whole plan) - they put the input from Southwark Cyclists and LCC (it was all clearly outlined in the documents) above everyone else. Agree and the same entitlement issues that causes bad driving are now being seen in many cyclists and causing bad cycling. Humans will be humans and cyclists are no different from having their fair share of wallies too!

There was definitely a story on the Beeb about a city banning bikes from parts of the centre...was it Utrecht maybe, but sure it was Amsterdam or Berlin, something about protecting historical sites. And definitely bikes not just hire bikes or scooters.

But the council did prioritise the input of the cycle lobby over that of the emergency services around many LTN plans.....Peckham and Dulwich Village being key examples. And my point on this thread is that lots of people are critical of both bad drivers and cyclists whilst some (you know who you are) can never bring themselves to be critical of cyclists.

Oh what a coincidence...not the first time this has happened....

Get used to it...that's what Southwark are increasing by employing 48 more wardens....talk to anyone who lives in Islington and they will tell you the wardens tail Ocado vans waiting for them to pull over in CPZ areas....;-)

No, I am angry with lefties because they created this mess by gifting the last election to the Tories. My friend was an advisor to the Corbyn campaign and I asked them...at what point did you realise it had all gone horribly wrong..and they said when they got the text to return to Labour HQ as they headed to the victory party.... ...its that sort of blinkerdness that I can assure you Keir is more than aware of and desperate not to repeat. So you can all claim it doesn't matter but Uxbridge does and it has triggered the centrist in Labour to say (quite sensbily)...don't let the left balls this up for us.....so Sadiq and the hard left councils are right in the line of sight of that one...

I can assure you, Labour HQ is spending far more time worrying about Uxbridge than celebrating Selby.

Given the comments coming out of Labour HQ about ULEZ in light of the Uxbridge by-election only a political fool would suggest they are not concerned about the perceptual impact this could have on their election campaign....a clear bump in the road they don't need (no matter how far ahead they are). Labour HQ knows they have to overturn a big majority and cannot afford any distractions. Uxbridge was a massive wake-up call.

It is often not what is in front you that causes the problems but what comes further down the road.....

Sadiq may be heading into more troubled waters as Labour HQ aren't at all happy that ULEZ is costing them votes at a time when they need to be showing that they are not a divided party and this sort of thing is behind them. It will be interesting to see if party politics come into play now, this regional issue has far reaching national implications. As I said before ULEZ is a huge political football and the stakes could not be higher.
