  1. Mockney, I'm not making a judgement on whether their obsession with the crusades is logcal. I merely pointed out that many Muslims think the recent actions against Muslim countries is a resurgence of the Christian crusades.
  2. If they haven't been convicted then how can this be correct?
  3. I think so, but that's not as shocking and newsworthy for some reason!
  4. I agree, I think they have no right to get their knickers in a twist about cartoon Mohammed too if they want the right to burn poppies.
  5. No 'innocent until proven guilty' in Hugoland!
  6. Hugo - they were not asking for help for anything. They plastered a big picture of someone on their window and condemned them as a theif.
  7. Some Muslims I know who are not extreme oe even active do have a thing about the West and their crusades in the past. Can't blame them really because we did go and slaughter thousands of them in the name of Christianity. Some see the current Western push against Muslim countries as a renewal of the original crusades. I'm not a fan of war myself and don't really go in for the whole poppy thing so the actions of the 35 Muslims (who didn't seem particularly extreme to me) didn't shock or outrage me. Is it any worse than burning other symbols in protest? The original poster said it shouldn't be allowed. Why not? Because their views might not reflect those of the mainstream? You might not be happy with the way that they expressed their anger at what they see as a Western Crusade against Muslims, but aren't they entitled to express that view? Or do you think the State should control the population's rights to assembly and/or protest?
  8. Middle lane drivers are annoying and dangerous. If they aren't confident enough to drive properly on the motorway then they should stick to A roads.
  9. I've decided to have go at no-drink-vember myself. Before the December onslaught!
  10. I've seen cockroaches on the number 12 just crawling up the inside wall.
  11. DJK, what happens if kids fail because the teacher is crap? Should they still lose their EMA?
  12. That's awful. I get really angry about how dangerous cars can be and whenever any curbs are put on people's 'freedom' to drive, motorists are up in arms. Cars, lorries etc are lethal weapons and there should be a rethink about whose rights are more important, the driver's, or the rights of other inhabitants of the planet!
  13. Thanks, I thought it must have been really serious if it had been closed all day. Not sure if 2 more minor accidents are much better though really for the people involved.
  14. It was still closed off at 8:30pm. I. Hope all involved in the accident are ok.
  15. Hate to be agreeing with Hugo in some kind of unholy alliance, but gotta say I do in this case. If there are problems with how the system is administered then maybe that could be looked at, but the idea of EMA is a good one, in my opinion.
  16. Actually they are going all the way down Barry Road and back to Goose Green on East Dulwich Road.
  17. They are diverted down the top of Barry Road. There was some kind of accident on Lordship Lane apparently.
  18. It has helped a lot of kids I know stay on at college when they wouldn't have been able to attend due to lack of funds of their parents.
  19. You can get a baisc mobile phone for ?10 - so what's the big deal?
  20. I'm sure Iceland was one of the first supermarkets to ban GM products from it's own brand food.
  21. Hehe, I hope this is true, just to infuriate the Iceland snobs!
  22. As a cyclist I hate cycling down Barry Road past that junction because cars always push way out onto Barry Road forcing me to either swerve out into the traffic, stop my bike altogether or risk a collision with the car. I don't know if the visibility is obstructed for cars coming out of Underhill onto Barry Road, but it's really dangerous.
  23. This is pretty grim. I don't know if it's an indication of general lack of accountability in the armed forces or mysogyny. I think there may be a level of brutalisation in the military which makes it possible for them to do the things asked of them, that might be responsible for the mysoginistic attitude to women. But the closing of ranks that follows incidents would make any prosecutions problematic in my opionion. Not sure what the answer might be though.
