  1. But why are they only asking more than 2 months later?
  2. We received 5 Christmas cards yesterday. All in damaged/wet envelopes with boot prints all over them. Prior to that we got two about two weeks before Christmas. It was the same last year and the year before. I honestly can't believe that we just have to put up with this in SE22.
  3. Is there a reason you can't donate to a charity shop? We have 3 or 4 on Lordship Lane. Alternatively Traid (they have a branch in Peckham) will come and collect from you. If the clothing is too tatty to sell on many charity shops will accept it sorted into separate bags as "rags" which they get paid for (as Sue said earlier in the thread). The recycling centre on Old Kent Road also accepts fabric recycling, goes without saying.
  4. The outside drain from our kitchen (sink, dishwasher and washing machine) is blocked although water is going down very slowly. I feel it's something I should be able to tackle DIY but happy to pay someone as long as it's a fair call-out/hourly rate which you'll quote me up front. Or, if you have any recommendations, please let me know.
  5. Over the weekend, my wife took the trouble to put a collection of children's books and toys out by our front gate, for passers-by to take if they wanted to. No charge of course, but she did leave a note asking people not to take the plastic storage box she'd put them in. So imagine our complete lack of surprise when we got home from an evening out to find the books and toys neatly piled on our path, but no sign of the box. East Dulwich has been gentrified out of all recognition in the 27 years we've lived here, so this was a useful reminder that the scumbags still walk among us. Enjoy your plastic box, scumbag. They cost about 4 quid at Farmer's.
  6. Our previous plumber put a really wide line of sealant round the bath which is proving really difficult to remove! I need it gone and replaced, I know it's a skilled job and want it done beautifully. Is there anyone out there?
  7. I just can't get excited about a Pret in East Dulwich - they are the most ubiquitous chain in London and I'm fairly sure I will never go in that branch. I know I'll never want a Pret sandwich on my way home from town, and if I want one on my way in I can buy it fresher (and without the worry of missing my train) from the eleventy billion branches that already exist in London. The idea of Pret out in the suburbs because people don't work in the centre any more makes me sad.
  8. I park in Morrisons car park. Only a short walk, if you are physically able of course.
  9. The Co-Op on Lordship Lane did have a bin (at the front, near the tobacco/drink kiosk) until recently at least. Sainsburys have a handy list on the outside of the plastic bag bins (near the photo booth) telling you exactly what kind of plastic you can now put in them. I expect it includes packaging for FROZEN PEAS.
  10. Geraniums will be fine in dry, light soil. You need to be careful not to over water these. You might want to get some water retaining gel or crystals for the other pots. As you have very big pots - if it gets very warm and sunny (ha!) it's best to give them a good soaking every few days rather than a light watering every day.
  11. You can now put "flimsy plastic" as they call it in the plastic bag recycling bins at Sainsburys Dog Kennel Hill. The tiny bin at the Co-Op on Lordship Lane is always full.
  12. The Sainsbury's Saver Centre at Bell Green still has a big recycling bank. Or you can take them to the Southwark tip (if you have a ULEZ compliant car of course). We usually take a couple of bags of fabrics and shoes for recycling in our bi-annual tip runs.
  13. I'm sorry to see this is still an issue. I came home to a parcel delivery recently where the driver had attempted to hide it by propping up my front door mat against the box. The box was about 24x24 inches so that was as pointless as just leaving the box on top of the mat. Luckily I got home in time.
  14. Agree with Killing Eve. I loved series 1, but then watched first episode of series 2 and just thought "nope". Such a shame about Frasier. And Twin Peaks.

  16. I'm sorry to hear this gabys1st. As it happens the pavement is wide and it really wasn't causing an obstruction. Also as it happens I have a LOT going on at the moment which means taming that shrub was quite low on my list of priorities just now. It was the disappointment that a neighbour would do this without speaking to me.
  17. I thought the same ITAM. The council don't have the resources for this sort of thing. I'd welcome a message from anyone on Upland Road (around the 300 door numbers) who wants to comment.
  18. I'm guessing your first suggestion is correct KK. Making me feel pretty low.
  19. Came home this evening to find a shrub from my front garden that hangs over onto the pavement has been hacked down and left on the pavement. Would the council do this, on a Saturday, without any warning or notice?

"However, no doubt the more stupid will now say, if Putin agrees with JKR then we were right that she's a horrible person." Indeed they will.

Why on earth have the women's team agreed to this pantomime?

I agree with oimissus and it's frustrating that so many people have very little knowledge of the long history of problems both with Stonewall and quite a frightening number of Trans Rights Activisits who are violent, threatening and utterly dismissive of the need to protect women's hard-won sex based rights. The argument that it's just "a handful" of athletes at present is not an argument to the women who lose in these events. And it won't be just a handful for long. Also, being transexual has nothing whatsoever to do with being gay. My gay sister is alarmed by the erosion of her rights as much as any woman I know. Did you know that plenty of lesbians have been abused online by transwomen and TRAs because they do not find the idea of having sex with them and their intact male body an appealing prospect? However, if someone identifies as female and wants to live as female then I think it's more respectful to refer to them as transwomen oimissus, rather than men/a man. After all, they will insist on calling us cis gendered, so can't object to that!
  23. My children went to schools with very large "catchments". It can be a bit of pain for them if they live right on the fringes and most of their friends are closer to the school but as they get older and more independent they should be able to navigate buses to get around. We live in SE22, some of my children's friends live in Catford or Penge. Kids come from miles around to go to Kingsdale - Beckenham, Streatham, central London etc.
  24. Any updates on these fundraisers for 1. Peckham Lido and 2. (iirc) a sort of green walkway above Peckham. The second one is a bit hazy in my memory, but it was connected to the station I think. What has happened to these projects?
