The Sainsbury's Saver Centre at Bell Green still has a big recycling bank. Or you can take them to the Southwark tip (if you have a ULEZ compliant car of course). We usually take a couple of bags of fabrics and shoes for recycling in our bi-annual tip runs.

Parcels being stolen from outside front doors in SE22
tomskip replied to O.A.Partygirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sorry to see this is still an issue. I came home to a parcel delivery recently where the driver had attempted to hide it by propping up my front door mat against the box. The box was about 24x24 inches so that was as pointless as just leaving the box on top of the mat. Luckily I got home in time. -
TV series that start strong...and lose their way....

Agree with Killing Eve. I loved series 1, but then watched first episode of series 2 and just thought "nope". Such a shame about Frasier. And Twin Peaks. -

I'm sorry to hear this gabys1st. As it happens the pavement is wide and it really wasn't causing an obstruction. Also as it happens I have a LOT going on at the moment which means taming that shrub was quite low on my list of priorities just now. It was the disappointment that a neighbour would do this without speaking to me.
-
I thought the same ITAM. The council don't have the resources for this sort of thing. I'd welcome a message from anyone on Upland Road (around the 300 door numbers) who wants to comment.
-
I'm guessing your first suggestion is correct KK. Making me feel pretty low.
-
Came home this evening to find a shrub from my front garden that hangs over onto the pavement has been hacked down and left on the pavement. Would the council do this, on a Saturday, without any warning or notice?

"However, no doubt the more stupid will now say, if Putin agrees with JKR then we were right that she's a horrible person." Indeed they will.

Why on earth have the women's team agreed to this pantomime?
-
I agree with oimissus and it's frustrating that so many people have very little knowledge of the long history of problems both with Stonewall and quite a frightening number of Trans Rights Activisits who are violent, threatening and utterly dismissive of the need to protect women's hard-won sex based rights. The argument that it's just "a handful" of athletes at present is not an argument to the women who lose in these events. And it won't be just a handful for long. Also, being transexual has nothing whatsoever to do with being gay. My gay sister is alarmed by the erosion of her rights as much as any woman I know. Did you know that plenty of lesbians have been abused online by transwomen and TRAs because they do not find the idea of having sex with them and their intact male body an appealing prospect? However, if someone identifies as female and wants to live as female then I think it's more respectful to refer to them as transwomen oimissus, rather than men/a man. After all, they will insist on calling us cis gendered, so can't object to that!

My children went to schools with very large "catchments". It can be a bit of pain for them if they live right on the fringes and most of their friends are closer to the school but as they get older and more independent they should be able to navigate buses to get around. We live in SE22, some of my children's friends live in Catford or Penge. Kids come from miles around to go to Kingsdale - Beckenham, Streatham, central London etc.

It seems no one seems to know.

Any updates on these fundraisers for 1. Peckham Lido and 2. (iirc) a sort of green walkway above Peckham. The second one is a bit hazy in my memory, but it was connected to the station I think. What has happened to these projects?

Help with filling in an appeals form
tomskip replied to staniulyte's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Why do Sydenham School think your daughter would not benefit from going there? That sounds strange. To be honest, I'm surprised you actually found 6 co-ed schools in this area to apply to. -
I meant the towels are still going strong! I know the market is nothing like it used to be :(
-
The market in Lewisham is still like a proper market (last time I looked). I bought some towels in Leather Lane market years ago on my lunch break - still going strong!
-
Did it come in the post or was it hand delivered? I wonder if they are going to invite comments from the neighbouring streets which will be affected.

I know this is an old thread now but for future reference, if helpful, the post box on Upland Road about half way between Goodrich School and the fork with Dunstans Road is a 7.30am collection.

Peckham Station Refurbishment
tomskip replied to LivinSaarfMan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Peckham Rye was my commuting station when I travelled to Victoria for work 20 years ago (prior to maternity leave and career change after having children). Since then I've travelled from East Dulwich or Forest Hill for years. This week I had to go to Peckham Rye for a London Bridge train (as Southern have stopped providing the service from Forest Hill for reasons best known to themselves). I was quite looking forward to seeing the old gaff as I heard big things were planned for the station and surrounding areas. Couldn't believe how dismal and filthy it still is! After all this time! and the graffiti wasn't there 20 years ago either. Nasty. -
Thank you for the update sweetgirl. An appalling murder in our neighbourhood, barely noticed on the EDF. I think about Beatrice's daughter every time I walk past that flat.
-
Christmas card received today, franked in Greenford on 9th December. Wondering if I win the thread?
-
The BBC London news item doesn't give the full picture though does it? It's not just about Covid as we all know. If it were all about C-19 then you'd expect postal deliveries to be roughly evenly affected across the whole of London.

Wow things are improving. Daughter's birthday cards received today - only 6 days late!
