Allowing for poor service, I posted a birthday card last month, three and a half weeks in advance of a birthday in March, but it still didn't arrive until a week after the birthday. I would sum it up by saying the service they're able to provide is inadequate and unacceptable - regular delays are now their normal service. I might have a more tolerant attitude towards Royal Mail if I hadn't been experiencing their poor service since long before the pandemic - ever since our service transferred to Peckham Office - and if they were spending their ?500,000,000/?700,000,000 profit on expanding their premises and taking on more permanent staff instead of sharing it out among their shareholders.

Thanks Nigello for telling us about the new recycling bin for small electrical items in Dulwich Village. I looked at it yesterday & thought I should let others know that it's either full, or items which are too large have been forced into it. Either way, it's blocked at the moment. The bin has no facility for lightbulbs or batteries.

I've signed your petition and I encourage you to continue to challenge the council's decision. I have experienced distressing discretionary decisions from Southwark regarding my own garden, decisions which show no consideration for nature, wildlife or my way of life. I have appealed in the past, thereby taking them to court. I don't know what legal rights you have in your situation, but, despite the fact that they own the land, I'm sure the council are required to act reasonably, For your neighbour to complain about your shed, I assume it's causing him some problem - if so, can you do anything to reduce any nuisance it's causing? Can the council's decision be challenged - have you taken legal advice? Good luck.

Opposite the Actress, in Upland Rd, next to the Old Police Station,there's a silver Renault with a Southwark Council notice on it saying it was moved from another road to that position by them. It's now been there for weeks and the notice has faded so you can no longer read the road it was removed from. Presumably the owner either doesn't know it's there, or doesn't want it.

It isn't obvious to me from that sign that you can drive down Eynella Rd - the timed restrictions surely don't apply to Court Lane. I remember the council were proposing to make Eynella Rd 'no entry' from the Barry Rd direction. This crossroads is much used by schoolchildren from St Anthony's and children using the children's library, so it seems to me that, regardless of Court Lane being a no through road ahead, it's where the sign has been placed that the timed restrictions apply. I quite agree that the sign is not clear, as no-one seems to know what it really means.

In my experience, some drivers are going much too fast in some LTN roads. I think they are finding their normal route blocked and are frustratedly and impatiently driving down unfamiliar streets trying to get out.

Some frogs hibernate in the mud in the bottom of a pond. A Butler sink is not deep enough to protect a frog from predators, so I wouldn't recommend removing all of the ice. However, frogs need to be able to breathe. There's usually a layer of air between the surface of the water and the ice, so, making an airhole in the ice will allow the air to circulate enabling a frog to survive when its home is frozen over.

The council emptied the brown bins in my road this week as usual, but left all the Christmas trees. Perhaps they don't have enough room in the vehicle to take so many in one week.

As I recall, we were told that TFL wouldn't allow it because it's a bus route & a pedestrian crossing would delay the buses.

There are four other entrances to Sydenham Hill Woods and Dulwich Woods that I can think of, e.g.there's one on Sydenham Hill and one on Crescent Wood Rd Edited to say that, since posting this, the Cox's Walk thread has been updated, so there is better information on there, including a response from a councillor for the ward in which the woods are situated and a post from a London Wildlife Trust volunteer, so the situation is better explained on that thread. It seems no-one knows who padlocked the gates - that it was not any council contractors nor the London Wildlife Trust. The council have put in a new planning application to fell the trees. The application is still open for comments on the council's planning website.

Unfortunately, complaints to the council about the displaced congestion on Underhill & other roads may be just the kind of response the council are hoping for so they can argue that the LTN area needs to be extended further into East Dulwich. They are also likely to use it as an excuse to say that Controlled Parking Zones should be extended into the area.

Yes, the P13 has been on its normal route in Underhill Rd all week - the roadworks were cleared last Sunday (as I reported at the time)

The blockage at Friern Rd has been removed, so Underhill Rd is now clear.

As I understand it, the bus gates will only assist the P4 when it goes through Dulwich Village. Are there going to be bus gates which will help the buses on the South Circular, Lordship Lane or, most importantly, East Dulwich Grove?

Forcing all traffic onto the bus routes is going back to the days before bus lanes were introduced, when buses were so delayed by all the other traffic, that no-one could rely on them e.g.to get to work on time. The buses have been ignored by the council in their LTNs, but they are essential in encouraging people to abandon their cars and use public transport.

Message from Margy Newens re South Circular closure:- As many of you will be aware, on Thursday afternoon a major water main burst beneath the South Circular just outside the more westerly entrance to Dulwich Park resulting in considerable damage to the highway and pavement and copious flooding. The road has been closed in both directions between Lordship Lane and College Road since the incident resulting in gridlock throughout the entire area. I have been advised that there is now a signposted diversion via Croxted Road, Norwood Road, Half Moon Lane, Village Way, East Dulwich Grove, Lordship Lane. Officially, we have been advised that the repairs will take at least until Sunday evening to complete. Meanwhile, I spoke to a Thames Water engineer on site this morning who indicated that the works could well extend into next week and that the extent of damage to the highway would mean that it is likely to remain closed to motor vehicles in both directions for the duration. Access to pedestrians and cycles will be maintained throughout. Please share this information with your networks.

I'm wondering whether late packages will ever be delivered or whether they'll be returned to sender. An online company had posted an item to me on 26th August. When I eventually contacted the sender, they took lost post action because of the length of time it was taking to reach me, They replaced the item, which I had to ask them not to send by Royal Mail. I received the replacement the next day because I paid for it to be sent by courier. I've not received the original, which presumably should now not be delivered to me but should be returned to sender. Given how many undelivered packages they have, I wonder whether the delivery office will actually go to the extra trouble of sorting through them all to separate out the ones which need to be returned to sender.

Yes, I remember there was something Mexican there. There was a restaurant there in the evening for a while - I think it was that - it certainly had a different menu to Johnnies. It probably wasn't run by the same people and it didn't seem to have any customers whenever I passed by, so I wasn't surprised it didn't survive.

I agree with your good advice, Sally Eva, except for one point. We are talking about an elderly lady. If her PIP has been stopped, yes, she can appeal, but she would not be a eligible to reclaim PIP. For a fresh claim, a person has to be below state pension age.
