No, it is not speculation that this fox has been killed - supersammyc has posted the photos of its dead body. A vet needs to examine the body to establish the cause of death. That vixens scream at mating time, which is in January, is not relevant - it's obvious from the photos that this fox has suffered. Supersammyc is trying to find help & doesn't deserve criticism. Supersammyc - have you been able to find help from the police or a wildlife/fox welfare organisation? Please post an update on here to let those of us who are concerned to know what has caused the death of this fox know the present situation and whether we can help in any way, especially as there are now probably cubs left without their mother.

Malumbu It could be fox cubs - they have only recently started to appear and they are very playful. Putting down water for foxes is a good idea, but may not deter them from wanting to drink from the pond, as a pond is a more natural water source. A garden pond is such a valuable wilife feature in a garden. Couldn't you make a place where creatures (including foxes?) can get to the water's edge to drink? Wouldn't a paving slab or plank of wood on top of the pond liner protect it from damage while enabling wildlife to get to the water's edge to have a drink, So much more wildlife friendly than spikes - and as for disinfectant - I hope you will not use disinfectant! The ingredients that make disinfectants effective in destroying bacteria and viruses make them toxic for animals - and for pondlife, which is especially sensitive to disinfectants.

The time reserved for elderly shoppers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays is 8-9am. Sainsbury's arrangement for the NHS is "NHS and social care workers will be able to shop in our supermarkets for half an hour before they open, from Monday to Saturday. Anyone with NHS ID will be able to shop from 07.30 to 08.00 on these days" I didn't see anything on Sainsbury's website to say that either the elderly/disabled/carers or the NHS staff had priority at any other times.

That's concerning. I wondered how Sainsbury's were enforcing their rationing of no more than three of any item per customer. I expected they would make their policy clear in the store, rather than take chilled/frozen items back at the till. What do they do with the meat they take from the customer? I was formerly told by a supervisor that any frozen or chilled products which customers discard at the tills can't be put back for sale because they have been out of the fridge or freezer for an unknown amount of time. Did the cashier call for a member of staff to take the meat and put it back straightaway? If not, it defeats the purpose of the rationing. However, Sainsbury's have today announced that they are relaxing their rationing from Sunday:- "Feeding the nation We have been working hard with our suppliers to improve our product availability. Most people are now just buying what they need for themselves and their families. This means we now often have stock on the shelves all day and at the end of the day. People have been queuing to get into our stores when they open in the mornings, but customers are now finding they can shop at any time of the day and feel confident in finding most of what they need. As stock continues to build, we have been reviewing whether we still need to limit the number of items people buy. I am pleased to tell you that we will start to remove limits from Sunday. Limits will remain in place on the most popular items which include UHT milk, pasta and tinned tomatoes. We have removed limits from Easter eggs immediately as we know families often want to buy more than three and we have plenty of these in all stores and online. From today, we are asking everyone to please only send one adult per household to our shops. This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores. Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait. Children are of course welcome if they are not able to stay at home."

Sainsburys dedicated vulnerable customer line
kiera replied to IlonaM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
IlonaM I remember reading that, in order to minimise risk during this crisis, Sainsbury's will not take back anything they've delivered, so I believe they have suspended their policy of taking back unwanted substitutes and giving refunds. -
Renata - could you please post a copy of the government directive to local authorities to close cemeteries. The only justification I have been referred to by a council officer relates only to crematoria, as has already been stated by others on here. I'd like to understand why the council has taken this step, as cemeteries are not even mentioned in the Regulations and it makes no sense to close cemeteries while leaving parks open.

Yes First Mate, anyone can comment on the planning application. You will be asked for your name and address and Southwark will probably give more weight to people who live nearby, but also, I would hope to people who use and value Greendale.

Yes - and they were then ripped up and thrown around on the grass - no appreciation or respect for nature or people.

I've always understood that, historically, the residents of Dulwich Village resisted the introduction of public transport into the Village & that that is why they only have one little single decker bus.

exdulwicher - thank you for your most useful contribution to the forum. I find your posts very informative, so, regardless of where you live, I hope that you will continue to take the trouble to share your knowledge on here.

It has always been understood locally that Dog Kennel Hill was so named because hunting dogs were housed on it. The side roads off Dog Kennel Hill have all been named after hunts e.g. Quorn Road.

I haven't experienced a cat which runs into the room to attack in response to alarming sounds, so my experiences may not be relevant, but I have a cat which I took in as an adult and which kept attacking me initially. In particular he would grab hold of my leg with his claws and teeth when I was walking past him to leave the room - it was certainly pretty painful and made me wary of walking past him. I eventually worked out that he was objecting to my leaving the room without having put down some food for him. I haven't taken him to the vet about this problem, but, for some reason he seems to need more food than other cats, so I give him a bit more and he's overweight, but I'm still not giving him as much as he'd like. Nowadays he walks right in front of me, so that I'm nearly tripping over him, in order to make sure I get the message that he wants more food. One reason for a cat following its owner around could be because it's hungry. My mother had a cat which loved being stroked, but only up to a point, then she would suddenly hiss and bite and run away, similar to Kidkruger's experience as has already been mentioned above. The cat had joined the household as a kitten and remained the youngest pet among other cats and a dog. It wasn't until she was much older and the dog had died that she stopped behaving this way. We hadn't realised that it was the presence of other animals in the house, the dog in particular, which had meant she could never allow herself to be completely relaxed. So, perhaps your cat is staying alert to some perceived danger in the house. Had she had kittens and is still feeling protective? Could she be following you because she feels safer with you?........ the

Found - thrown into a front garden in Upland Rd, sometime after 10.30pm last night, two jackets + rail tickets for 23/12 to Liverpool, including seat reservations for a child/children. I've put the jackets on the front garden wall between 96 & 98 Upland Rd. There was also a set of keys close by, so I've taken them for safe keeping. If they're yours, please send me a private message from here.

A Police Community Support Officer was very helpful with a car near me which hadn't moved for months, maybe because it was getting to look increasingly neglected. The car was still legal, but he traced the owner, and as it was local address, he visited the owner and got the car removed. So it could well be worth drawing the taxi issue to the attention of the PCSOs.

Support our own East Dulwich tree sellers

I'm sure you'll find that the money raised by the council is only going to be used by the Events Team to fund more events - it's self perpetuating. -
I saw a number 12 bus coming down Barry Rd in the direction of Peckham Rye this evening. Diversion over?

Local MPs active in the local Southwark area

Harriet Harman is the MP for part of SE22, so is one of the MPs for East Dulwich and, yes, she has been re-elected, as has Helen Hayes. -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
kiera replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So James, as you didn't know about this event on Goose Green, are you saying that the council carried out a consultation in July but didn't include local councillors? What a strange "consultation" - it seems it didn't include local residents or businesses either - a typical Events Team consultation. Are you going to challenge the council/cabinet member to change the events policy to include consultation with local people? -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
kiera replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From my experience, this is as I understand the situation:- The council have adopted policies which commit them to making money from any suitable space, including parks and green spaces - anyone can apply to use anywhere. Council officers decide what's suitable for each space without any consultation with the public. If there was a Friends' group for Goose Green, they would probably inform you of their intentions, but you still probably wouldn't have much influence. There is no commitment to use the money they make to benefit the space they've rented out. Councillors will have been informed of any planned event, but you'll undoubtedly find that they are obliged to defend the policy. I think it's totally wrong that council officers have the power to decide what's suitable, without consultation with residents. I think you are right to raise this with councillors. -
