  1. Yes - and they were then ripped up and thrown around on the grass - no appreciation or respect for nature or people.
  2. I've always understood that, historically, the residents of Dulwich Village resisted the introduction of public transport into the Village & that that is why they only have one little single decker bus.
  3. exdulwicher - thank you for your most useful contribution to the forum. I find your posts very informative, so, regardless of where you live, I hope that you will continue to take the trouble to share your knowledge on here.
  4. It has always been understood locally that Dog Kennel Hill was so named because hunting dogs were housed on it. The side roads off Dog Kennel Hill have all been named after hunts e.g. Quorn Road.
  5. DID - She may not have been defiant. She may not have understood what you were saying but did understand that you were not pleased with her.
  6. RickB - This is the sort of issue your councillor/s should be able to sort out for you.
  7. One of the businesses currently in this working area is a printing company and their address is Bluwave Ltd Unit 1b 1a Philip Walk London SE15 3NH
  8. I haven't experienced a cat which runs into the room to attack in response to alarming sounds, so my experiences may not be relevant, but I have a cat which I took in as an adult and which kept attacking me initially. In particular he would grab hold of my leg with his claws and teeth when I was walking past him to leave the room - it was certainly pretty painful and made me wary of walking past him. I eventually worked out that he was objecting to my leaving the room without having put down some food for him. I haven't taken him to the vet about this problem, but, for some reason he seems to need more food than other cats, so I give him a bit more and he's overweight, but I'm still not giving him as much as he'd like. Nowadays he walks right in front of me, so that I'm nearly tripping over him, in order to make sure I get the message that he wants more food. One reason for a cat following its owner around could be because it's hungry. My mother had a cat which loved being stroked, but only up to a point, then she would suddenly hiss and bite and run away, similar to Kidkruger's experience as has already been mentioned above. The cat had joined the household as a kitten and remained the youngest pet among other cats and a dog. It wasn't until she was much older and the dog had died that she stopped behaving this way. We hadn't realised that it was the presence of other animals in the house, the dog in particular, which had meant she could never allow herself to be completely relaxed. So, perhaps your cat is staying alert to some perceived danger in the house. Had she had kittens and is still feeling protective? Could she be following you because she feels safer with you?........ the
  9. Good old East Dulwich Forum! The rightful owner responded, so I have been able to return her items to her. They had been stolen during a break-in.
  10. Found - thrown into a front garden in Upland Rd, sometime after 10.30pm last night, two jackets + rail tickets for 23/12 to Liverpool, including seat reservations for a child/children. I've put the jackets on the front garden wall between 96 & 98 Upland Rd. There was also a set of keys close by, so I've taken them for safe keeping. If they're yours, please send me a private message from here.
  11. A Police Community Support Officer was very helpful with a car near me which hadn't moved for months, maybe because it was getting to look increasingly neglected. The car was still legal, but he traced the owner, and as it was local address, he visited the owner and got the car removed. So it could well be worth drawing the taxi issue to the attention of the PCSOs.
  12. I'm sure you'll find that the money raised by the council is only going to be used by the Events Team to fund more events - it's self perpetuating.
  13. I saw a number 12 bus coming down Barry Rd in the direction of Peckham Rye this evening. Diversion over?
  14. JohnL Wrote: > It's Southwark MPs so will include Harriet Harman in Camberwell and Peckham I guess ? (technically not ED) > > Although not seen it declared yet she's a > certainty here. Harriet Harman is the MP for part of SE22, so is one of the MPs for East Dulwich and, yes, she has been re-elected, as has Helen Hayes.
  15. So James, as you didn't know about this event on Goose Green, are you saying that the council carried out a consultation in July but didn't include local councillors? What a strange "consultation" - it seems it didn't include local residents or businesses either - a typical Events Team consultation. Are you going to challenge the council/cabinet member to change the events policy to include consultation with local people?
  16. From my experience, this is as I understand the situation:- The council have adopted policies which commit them to making money from any suitable space, including parks and green spaces - anyone can apply to use anywhere. Council officers decide what's suitable for each space without any consultation with the public. If there was a Friends' group for Goose Green, they would probably inform you of their intentions, but you still probably wouldn't have much influence. There is no commitment to use the money they make to benefit the space they've rented out. Councillors will have been informed of any planned event, but you'll undoubtedly find that they are obliged to defend the policy. I think it's totally wrong that council officers have the power to decide what's suitable, without consultation with residents. I think you are right to raise this with councillors.
  17. Reopening on Thursday this week - 28th
  18. P13 was back to normal, using Whately Rd this evening.
  19. Yes, I used the P13 yesterday and, as it could not use Whately Rd, it was diverted via Lordship Lane and Barry Rd. There were no notices on the two bus stops it could not serve (Underhill Rd/Crystal Palace Rd and Whately Rd) so people were waiting in vain at those stops. There were no announcements for passengers on the bus to let them know the bus was on diversion and it didn't stop at any of the stops on Barry Rd when passengers rang the bell. I was under the impression that the bus drivers had not been prepared for this diversion, so were having to concentrate on following the diversion signs.
  20. Years ago, when I made a pond (in E.Dulwich). I put a large clump of reeds in it and some goldfish. Frogs, toads and newts must have been in the area, as they all appeared in the pond, along with pond creatures such as water boatmen, pond skaters and damselflies. They all bred - plenty of predators in that mix, but also plenty of cover for the fish fry and tadpoles, so plenty of the young survived. Luckily, my frogs didn't get that fungus disease. I don't think we have the same local reserves of amphibians and other wildlife for a pond to colonise naturally like that now - too many ponds have been filled in, garden areas diminished to make way for house extensions/patios and solid fences put up which prevent free movement between gardens of amphibians etc which restricts them to such an extent that they can't survive, such as seems to have happened with hedgehogs, which disappeared from my garden quite some years ago.
  21. You asked when would be the best time to change your pond. I would suggest summer if you have amphibians in the pond currently. In autumn & winter they could be hibernating in the mud at the bottom and in spring they would be breeding, so I would wait until after tadpoles have turned into froglets and left the pond, so, I would suggest August. I apologise if I'm telling you things you already know, but I recommend that you buy a good quality liner - inferior ones can start to disintegrate in sunlight - & that you put a soft layer on top of the bricks to lay it on, otherwise, the weight of the water could cause a puncture in the liner if it's laid directly on the bricks, which could have sharp corners. Also, to make sure amphibians have places where they can crawl in and out.
  22. That's a relief - very good news - thanks for letting us know.
  23. Enticing her is the right approach - not trying to grab her. It's very difficult to grab a cat that doesn't want to be picked up when it's free to run away - if you're unsuccessful, you'll only succeed in making her more wary. Just put food down, talk to her and encourage her to regard you as a friend. See how that goes, let us know how you get on and those of who've been through this before can advise you what to do next - you're doing fine, it just takes time and patience.
  24. I can't agree with Penguin that fireworks are a "need". To me, the issue is the enormously loud bangs. It's a natural reaction of people and animals to be startled. Fireworks are primarily a visual display, which can be most appreciated when it's dark and they need explosives to fire them - that much is understandable, but do the explosions need to be so loud? According to the link from first mate earlier today, they don't. To me, that's the issue.
  25. I don't think you can know the site or the planning application at all if you think that Greendale is a wood - it's Greendale Fields. The planning application is to build houses on Dulwich Hamlet Football ground and take over part of Greendale Fields which is open green space, currently freely available to the public for recreational use, The owners of Dulwich Hamlet Football Ground didn't buy the football ground because they love football - they bought it in order to build houses on it and make a fortune for themselves.
