  1. The Mayor is a Councillor.
  2. Hi emlford, the old Peckham Rye Stay and Play building has been demolished, it was an upgraded PoW hut and not fit for purpose. There is a fantastic new playground being built on the site of the old club. A new Stay and Play facility has been built next to the adventure playground. This is due to be open very soon! Have you thought of going along to the Children's Centres at Ivydale or Rye Oak Schools? There is some information here: http://www.ivydale.southwark.sch.uk/childrens-centre/ Renata
  3. Thanks for the update Ashley, I'm so glad she has been found. I hope she makes a full recovery soon. Renata
  4. Hi DulwichLondoner, it depends on which ward you live in. Dulwich Wood, Dulwich Hill, Dulwich Village, Champion Hill and Peckham Rye Wards have only two slots for Councillors, so two Votes. Goose Green and Nunhead and Queens Road and most other wards have three. Yes you are right, you have 2 or 3 votes and you vote for those candidates on the list. They may or may not be representatives of the same party, it's your choice. The 2 or 3 candidates with the highest vote get elected. They may or may not be from the same party. I hope this makes sense! Renata
  5. Hi all, my understanding broadly fits with what Kristymac says. They is a limit of 15% selection for music and sport selection combined, these each will have separate lists ie 15% are selected in total for admissions purposes. All children do the banding test and then siblings and other priority groups come first. There are three separate random allocation waiting lists, one for each band. This means if you are number one on the waiting list for band 3, but someone from band 2 turns down the place, your waiting list won't move, only the band 2 waiting list. There ends up being a much greater proportion of children with scholarships than 15% as many children who have achieved scholarship level get a place via the random allocation system rather than via the scholarship ranking. Renata
  6. Hi Lavender, just to confirm what DulwichFox says is correct. The only thing to add, you may possibly have changed polling station. Either check with a neighbour or ring Southwark on 02075255000 and ask for Electoral Services and they can tell you. Renata
  7. In terms of schools and polling stations, suitable venues are required within suitable locations within wards to be polling stations. There may not be other venues except a school in a suitable location. Going back to the theme of the thread-it does appear that many of the affected residents do now have replacement polling cards. As well as boundary and name changes of wards, some wards will have only 2 Councillors, so you have 2 votes if you are voting in those wards. 2 member wards are: Dulwich Wood, Dulwich Village, Dulwich Hill, Champion Hill, Peckham Rye and St George's all other wards will have three Councillors and 3 votes. Renata
  8. My teenage daughter has seen it with a group of friends. There are several superhero deaths, these are not gruesome, but may affect your children if they are fans of the superheroes. I would therefore suggest it's probably geared up to older children, ie of secondary age. Renata
  9. Hi Beulah, the new polling districts were sorted out a while ago, so the school would have known. With the change of ward boundaries, some polling stations have changed. This is a new polling station. The Thomas Carlton Centre is also a polling station. The polling station that no longer exists is Amott Road Baptist Church. I think this was in the old Lane Ward but is not in the new Rye Lane Ward so a new polling station was needed for the residents in the south east of the ward. I hope this makes sense. Renata
  10. Unfortunately, there has been a mix up on the polling cards for two polling districts in Peckham Rye Ward Polling cards issued to residents who normally vote at the Rye Hill Estate TRA Hall are directing them to vote at Newlands Academy. Polling cards issued to residents who normally vote at the Newlands Academy are directing them to vote at the Rye Hill Estate TRA Hall. THIS IS INCORRECT! Neither polling district has changed. If you usually vote at the Rye Hill Estate TRA Hall, that's still your polling station. If you usually vote at Newlands Academy, go to vote there. Electoral services have been made aware of the error and new polling cards are currently being issued with the correct information on them. They should be landing on your doorsteps in the next couple of days. Renata
  11. Ivy, I think you have started the thread :)
  12. All Councillors do their best to assist their residents when issues such as the one with Dulwich Hamlet admissions arise. I know at least one affected family was in my ward. They now have a place for their child. I have spoken with the Head of Dulwich Hamlet Junior School, Sonia Case, about the situation. The school and Southwark are still investigating what happened. The school is working hard to assist all affected parents, most of whom have met with staff from the school. Many of the original 18 have now been offered places at the school from the waiting list. Any parents for whom a place has not yet become available may contact the school on 020 7525 9188 for further information and assistance. They can also contact Southwark Admissions on 020 7525 5337. Southwark Admissions can give them advice on alternative schools for year 3 entry if this is required. I hope all the affected parents and children get an outcome they are happy with soon. Renata
  13. Hi Ivy, I doubt many schools have set the date yet, they usually are at the end of June/July. There is not normally a set list, someone starts one and then parents and others pile in with the dates they know about! Renata
  14. Hi Rachelle, the last distance to Sydenham was 1.75km or just over 1 mile. Is the distance you are giving in miles? You are then about 2.09km away. That would fit with 50+ on the waiting list as the further out you go, the larger the area of eg a 0.1km increase in distance. In terms of Kingsdale, as it has such a large intake, I wouldn't give up on getting a place. Be aware, however, that if a place does come up, it could be late in the day eg just before school starts in September.Places come up then due to people moving over summer and also if a place becomes available, it could be turned down by several people as they stick to the offered school as their child has attended induction days, has a uniform etc. Renata
  15. Hi Sol, are you one of the affected parents? If so please contact me and I will try to help. The school is an Academy so would administer admissions ranking according to it's policy. It's policy is the same as the council's one. The applications go to Southwark, then they send the data as a spreadsheet to the school. The school then looks at the admissions criteria, such as looked after children, exceptional social/medical need, siblings, once places are allocated under all the other categories in order, the remaining places are allocated on distance. A spreadsheet with the data then is transferred back to Southwark and Southwark issues the offers letters. At some point there was an error in data transfer. This is still being investigated. There was also an issue with exception medical/social need applicants as the school didn't receive the supporting evidence submitted by parents to Southwark. This to-ing and fro-ing of data increases the likelihood of problems. Renata
  16. No they are not. They do sometimes put this information on their websites or tell parents who ask them
  17. Hi Ladybird, you can have your child added to the waiting list for your second choice school, but I know Lewisham don't do this for a few weeks after offer day. Do you know if you would have got a place at your second choice school? (do you live very close to it?)
  18. You could search on-line for a baby grobag, here is an example of one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grobag-Hibernate-Baby-Gro-bag-Sleeping-Bag-Sack-6-18-Months-3-5-Tog-Warm-NEW/222906226822?epid=22012042273&hash=item33e63f1886:g:SxgAAOSwcuZabG2I They are like sleeping bags but go over the shoulders so there is no escape for a wriggly baby! Renata
  19. Hi Sue they are checked, It is worrying that this one has come down.I'm sure the arboculturist team will investigate.
  20. I think traditional ones that you put on a hob are quieter than electric, but you have the whistle when they are boiling and need to remove them/turn off energy source when they boil!
  21. Hi Scarlett, this will be in a few weeks, when I get the information I will post it on here. Please note that it will be for primaries that are LA run only ie not for Academies/free or faith schools. Renata
  22. Hello all This is the information on this year's outcome for primary school applications sent to all Councillors. The number of applicants is very similar and the proportion of applicants getting first choice is the same as last year at 88% and getting a chosen schools is 98%. For those of you who haven't got a school you are happy with at this point, be aware that there is likely to be some movement on waiting lists between now and September. I'm available via the attached email if you need some help or advice. Renata Dear Councillors I am pleased to confirm that we have received a total of 3,111 on time primary applications for the September 2018 intake and have yet again been able to offer a primary school place to every on time Southwark applicant. 3,062 (98.4%) Southwark families have received a primary school place of their preference - the remaining 49 families that did not receive a school of their preference, have been allocated an alternative school place at the nearest school to each family?s home with capacity. During this evening (16 April 2018) from 5pm, Southwark families will receive an email from the eAdmissions system which will confirm their child?s offer and provide information on what to do next. We will send our message to the email address that was used by the parent/carer when registering to apply online. Families will also be able to find out the outcome of their application by logging into the eAdmissions website using their unique user name and password during the evening of 16 April 2018. Starting primary school is an exciting time for families however, we recognise that those who did not receive a school of their preference and have been allocated an alternative school, often have additional queries and support needs. A personalised email from the admissions team with details of the alternative school allocated has been sent today to each of these families. Our phone lines will be open until 7pm this evening should they wish to contact us to raise any immediate queries or to discuss their options directly with an admissions officer. The Admissions team?s phone number is 020 7525 5337 and email is [email protected]. I am also always happy to be contacted with any cases that have been raised with you. It is useful to note that the 16 April date is not the end of the admissions process. Parents across London have until 30 April to reject their offers if it is not required and we know from previous experience that this will create movement over the forthcoming weeks. Officers will continue to work with families up until the end of August to ensure that everyone receives an offer with which they are happy. We are continually reviewing vacancies at Southwark primary schools as they arise, to ensure that as many families as possible are provided with a school of their preference for September 2018.
