  1. To confirm what people have said above. When you receive an offer of a school, it will be the highest one on your list that is able to offer you a place. You will go on the waiting list for schools that were higher on your list automatically but not lower. If you change your mind and want a school lower on your list (or another school altogether). You can contact the admissions department and ask to go on the wating list for that school. After 31st of August when the school year starts, you will need to apply to be on the waiting list for a school, as it now will be an in-year admission. Sometimes schools send out letters to parents who were on the orignial waiting list to see if they want to be the list or not. Anyone being added to a waiting list goes into their rank order in relation to their rating in relation to the admissions crtieria of the school. This means that you can zigzag up and down waiting lists (eg if you are 12th, a place comes up, the first 10 people turn it down, no 11 takes it then you jump up to 1st on the list. If then a family gets a place for an older sibling (or forgot to tick the sibling box on the form), the younger one jumps up to the top and also, 5 people move into the area closer to the school than you, then you drop to 7th etc). 2. Primary school applications are done on a Londonwide basis. Schools do not know in which order you put them. The best is to put the schools in order of preference. Most primaries rank on distance (after siblings, SEN, looked after children). You will be allocated the highest of the schools in your list that can offer your child a place. You say you live near Hollydale. Other schools that children from central Nunhead go to are: Ivydale, John Donne, Rye Oak, Turnham, Edmund Waller and probably they will go to Haberdasher's Aske Free School. The last three in the list are Lewisham schools. It is a Londonwide process which means you can have schools from different boroughs. Children also go the Mary Magdelene (C of E) and St Francesca Cabrini (priority Catholic, than other Christians eg Cof E or Orthodox, then community places- likely to be some in 2013 as St Anthony's has expanded and William of York is expected to bulge). Renata
  3. Athenlay (Holmestall Rd, next to Harris Girl's) and Carrib (Peckham Rye) as mentioned above both cater for 14 year olds. Renata
  4. I've had great feedback about the school, and last year it was rated "Good" by Ofsted. I hope that if your child is 4 before the first of September, that you have put your primary application form in. If not do so ASAP! Renata
  5. I will raise this route again, it appears the smaller buses (484, P13 and P12)are those that are running with the worst service in this area. The 484 and 343 are currently on diversion in Nunhead, this may be adding to the delays. Do any users experience 484s being terminated prematurely? Following many complaints, I had a meeting with Val Shawcross, TFL and Go Ahead who run the P12 and 63. Both these routes had problems linked to roadworks with resultant delays and the company responding by frequently turning buses round to stick to their timetable in the centre of the routes. As TFL is answerable to the Boris and he does not seem to be interested to improve bus services in South London (hence the negative response to our request to extend the 63 to Honor Oak Park Station), it's really hard to get anything done (eg more frequent buses)! There is now one extra bus running on the P12 route to help counteract the delays and reduce the likelihood that buses are turned round. Renata
  6. The plans are to put double yeallow lines on the Nunhead side of Peckham Rye between Nunhead Lane and Solomon's passage, the rationale behand this is that it sould make the junction area safer for cyclists. Renata
  7. Hi Noonan, myself and the other two Peckham Rye ward councillors had meetings with Southwark engineers and contractors on Friday. Cheltenham Rd is not finished, they are going back there to do more works. Apparently they did a survey and areas with damaged substructure are having deep reconstructure (not the whole road as we thought!). Once the initial works are completed, they will be inspected and a snagging list will be drawn up. Any remedial works are to be done at the contractors own cost. The works will come with a one year guarantee, so if you notice problems with what has been done, please let me know. Residents have been contacting us about the work and that's why we called for the meeting. We were told that the works are nowhere near completion and that we are jumping the gun with our concerns. Renata
  8. Hi Toffee apple, it depends on whether there is an article 4 directive attached to the conservation area. This means that usual permitted rights are withdrawn and you need to get permission to alter your windows. The best is to talk to a planning officer about it. Not only will they advise whether you can do the changes without permission, but also if you want to change your windows and permission is required, what would be likely to be permitted. Tel: 020 7525 5403 Fax: 020 7084 0347 [email protected] or contact me with your details Renata
  9. I'm a member of the Licencing Committee and we had a meeting last night. Northcross Rd Market was one of the agenda items. It was approved for the market to now have 20 permanent pitches (same trader each week with electricity supply) and 10 temporary pitches (no electricity supply and varying traders). In light of Selma's posts above in relation to a Swedish food stall, I specifically raised her case.I was told that there is no problem with additional food stalls providing different food products to those available on this market (tending towards the organic or homemade type of foods). All the permanent pitches are currently filled and it is felt that having no guarantee of a pitch is less than ideal if you're selling food, particularly in terms of managing stock, and the temporary pitches don't have electricity. So Selma and Kate, if you don't mind not being able to have a stall every week and don't need electricity, than contact the Council. There is more availability on Friday than Saturday. The market is becoming more popular with traders, and we were informed that in recent weeks, all pitches have been booked. There is some availability for the pre-Xmas Market on Friday 23rd December (last chance to shop or have a stall there before Xmas!) Renata
  10. Not free, but St Mary's pre-school, St Mary's Rd, Nunhead takes 2.5 year olds. I can't remember the exact rate but it is very reasonable for a 3 hour drop off (9.15-12.15). Renata
  11. I posted in this section, as there was a thread here, but it got moved to the family room. Thank you to the parents who attended this morning's meeting at the One O clock Club. To those of you unable to attend, local Councillors, myself (Peckham Rye) and Nick Dolezal (Lane) attended. Cabinet members Cllrs Catherine McDonald and Veronica Ward came and Catherine opened the meeting, talking about the severity of cuts to Southwark's budget from central goverment both to our core grant and to Child specific service funding. Council Officer Mike Smith explained where we currently are in terms of the club's future. Southwark Children's Services will continue to operate the Club on its current stay and play basis until the current building is replaced. The One O Clock club uses a former POW hut, which is not fit for purpose and Capital has been allocated to build a new, for purpose facility for children's activities. Discussions are currently underway with Ivydale Children's Centre re the responsibility of managing the building. This has not yet been finalised, but if it is run by the Children's Centre, a much wider range of child-centred activities wll be encouraged so that the new building is better utilised than the present one. Stay and play activities (ie One O Clock Club) would form part of the package. The council are also interested to hear from alternative providers such as community groups. One person has approached me and I forwarded their expression of interest in the Club. Renata
  12. My thread updating the situation got moved to this section of the forum. It's looking far more positive than at the time of my last meeting with parents/carers. Renata

  14. Just to remind all interested parties, the meeting is tomorrow, Thursday 8th December at 9.30am at the one O Clock club. all the best Renata
  15. Following the informal meeting a couple of weeks ago, were I met with users of the club, there is a meeting at 9.30am at the One O'clock club next Thursday 8th December at 9.3Oam to discuss the future of the Peckham Rye One O Clock Club (The club building will be opened for this meeting). Council Officers and Councillors will be present (I shall be attending). For those interested parties unable to attend, I will post the information given after the meeting. Thanks Renata
  16. There is a meeting at 9.30am at the One O'clock club next Thursday 8th December at 9.3Oam to discuss the future of the Club. Council Officers and Councillors will be present (I shall be attending). Thursday morning was the consensus best option for a meeting given by users who attended the informal meeting with me a couple of weeks ago. For those interested parties unable to attend, I will post the information given after the meeting. Renata
  17. Hi Molly (and others reading this thread) All Southwark primary schools were asked if they could offer a bulge class. Follow up visits are taking place to those that responded yes or maybe, to assess what would be needed on site to accommodate a temporary expansion. All schools visited have had the same message - the visit is to understand what would be needed to establish bulge classes at schools. The decision is to be taken by the Strategic Director who is able to agree a variation to a school's admission number. Not all the site visits have been completed. Ivydale is one of several schools that has had a site visit. All that can be inferred is that Ivydale, like several other schools have said they could take a bulge. No decisions have been taken yet. Hi Nunheadmum, just to respond that, as well as the above, that schools can bulge more than once! This happened with St Anthony's that had a temporary expansion two years running. Renata
  18. Thanks to all of you who came and spoke to me during the informal get together on Wednesday. There will be a meeting soon, the most likely dates are the 1st or 8th of December. Renata
  19. I have contacted TFL about the Bus stop situation last week, unfortunately there has been no response so far about it. The delays were caused by trees that had to be pruned back and problems for the buses turning at Inverton, hence the confusing delay. These works are taking so long as it's deep reconstruction rather than purely resurfacing. Renata
  20. No James, I posted (page 2 of this thread): To update on this, the results of the survey showed that some of the bumps were too high. These will require reconstruction. I will update here when I receive notification of the timetable from council officers. Renata you posted James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi ss18, > Apparently it is two humps out of thirteen. The main thing is that soon we will be at the end of this saga and Dunstan's Rd will have humps that meet the regulations Renata:))
  21. The reason why these works will take so long is that deep reconstruction of the highway is being done rather than just resurfacing. I will check about the busstop situation. Renata
  22. Great sunday roast and pizza. Renata I have also sampled the Tapas at the Rose- also good!
  23. A resident reported that they could smell gas when walking down Ryedale. This should have been investigated by Gas networks last week. Is anyone still smelling gas on Ryedale? (I am calling the resident directly, but I wonder if anyone else has been aware of this). Renata
  24. tyor, I would agree with what people say above, most of Southwark's schools are oversubscribed, so realistically you need to apply to schools close to where you live. Some schools didn't offer places to children who lived 300m away. The exception is if you are a church goer and are applying to a C of E or Catholic School under their religious entrance criteria; here you can apply to schools further away and be in with a chance. If you have the starting Primary School booklet (this info is also on the Southwark website),look at the furthest place offered distances for the primaries you are interested in. Even though this can vary from year to year, it is a guidance on what to expect. Be aware however, if a school bulges (takes an extra class) in the bulge year children from further away will get in, and due to higher sibling numbers the last place offered distance will be smaller than usual for the next 2-3 years.
