  1. It's obviously fabricated but I don't necessarily think Eminem would have been in on it...he comes out of it really badly. He's made a living out of homophobic lyrics and in this clip he appears upstaged by a guy pretending to be gay ? what's in it for him? It hardly makes him out to be badass (as I believe the vernacular had it some years ago)
  2. Clive James did an excellent broadcast on this on R4 on Sat; says all that needs to be said about tv talent shows, Simon Cowell etc. this link should work
  3. yup; I'm a qualified first aider. Good luck with your course ??it's a great thing to do.
  4. I think you're right PR ? if there was one rule for all it would make things easier. It probably does make sense to let motorcycles into bus lanes; cutting out weaving and potential road rage etc....But I do think the cyclist's box is an important safety feature for those without engines. I'm not anti-motorcycle at all ? just anti irresponsible speed. Everyone is guilty of that I suppose but the temptation must be greater on a motorcycle. Judging by the speed of some you see!

    a joke

Apologies if it's been posted before; but in honour of Clement Freud: funniest joke ever
  6. I'm not so keen on buses either AFN but it's called a bus lane for a reason. And even at my most wildly self-centred I don't think I could get rid of them.
  7. I'm with you Louisiana. Sorry to all you safe motorcyclists, but the amount of irresponsible riding I see out there, they're the last people I want to share a bus lane with. It's bad enough when they take the cyclists' box at the lights.
  8. Have you lot not seen Escape to Victory? None better than that surely.
  9. I know a girl who is tres fashion forward, and the envy of all my other female friends for her ability to pull off any kind of 'look'. And even I, a happily married man, would have to admit she's pretty easy on the eye. Saw her in a body suit the other day. Looked bloody ridiculous. So ladies, be advised. Mind you, I'm rocking a pair of flares this season so what do I know?

You are correct dukesdenver. I'm glad I'm not the only one with PVC OCD

    Red Riding

I enjoyed the first one although you are right; the tricksy editing; dream sequences etc were a bit silly; like they were trying to make an edgy Life on Mars. I liked the arty shots of the Moors, but why did everyone spend so much time in concrete underpasses? It was supposed to be the 70s. It felt like the 70s after a nuclear war. Last night's was more conventional and probably more believable as a result.
  12. What's happening with Deadwood ? any word on a fourth series? Or is it going to be a movie? Have only just started the Wire so have ??what ??five series to work through? Great. Don't know if I can be bothered to wait for BBC2.
  13. Erm, blackberry, iPod touch and an iPhone? Are you Stephen Fry in disguise? I have an iPhone and love the way it ties everything together in one device (phone, music, email)...but if you've already got those other toys the iphone won't give you anything more; just to opportunity to leave the other two behind. And annoy Snorky. Which might be worth it.

    David Bowie...

It's fair to point out he's released lot of below par stuff...but in a career that long, does anyone hit the jackpot every time? I can't think of a musician/band that has ? particularly when the bar is set so high early on. Same with anything really...Hitchcock is my favourite director, but with nearly 80 films, there's going to be some dross. I don't think Quids can consider himself a prisoner of his youth if the music in question is as good as 70s Bowie. But perhaps the real issue is whether that kind of quality be sustained. Can anyone think of a band that's managed it over 30+ years?
  15. I nearly filed a story last year describing an anal talent contest instead on an annual talent contest. And in the same week a friend on a well-known newspaper had someone slip into a comma.
  16. I learnt the crappest excuse for avoiding an interview, ever. Apparently a chairman of quite some importance cannot speak to me now or for the next four days because she is travelling. Where to? The bloody moon? Like she's got no dead airport time? Honestly. I could spit.
  17. Right! Sorry, we must revive this! I've been away and only just noticed it. I'm not saying Jack Charlton could actually have united Ireland, but I'm definitely the first who said it in this thread (thank you for pointing that out Keef). How do I go about claiming this prize? It is of tremendous importance to me as have lived an entire life of knowing less (and winning nothing) concerning football than anyone, ever. Could there possibly be a ceremony; maybe filmed and put on YouTube? Or maybe a local paper would be interested? Let me know your thoughts.
  18. Jack's on Pellatt Road does a very nice slice.
  19. I guess that's just Carlito's way. (oh stop, my aching sides etc)
  20. I'll say this for Richer Sounds: they've got a great extended warranty policy. Buy your cover, and if you haven't used it in three years, they give you the money back. Just got ?30 back on a dvd policy ? I was amazed. Thought there was bound to be a catch. So, yes to Richer Sounds; nothing sets off a living room like big black boxes of hi-fi. I don't reckon it will happen though; doesn't seem like their area, and it's only 10 minutes on the train from the London Bridge branch.
  21. Was it Jack Charlton?
  22. Is anyone else disappointed with the frontage, or am I just being an insufferable snob?
  23. I love the start of that last post; reminds me of a line in the Blues Brothers..."We've got both kinds of music; country and western." But I love a good Wellington so I'll try that one thanks.
  24. Oh yes; a nice chicken chimichanga and a margarita. Lovely.
  25. Well if you could fashion me a roast goose from your list of ingredients MadWorld I'll save a fortune this Christmas. But thanks for the ideas everyone; keep 'em coming.
