Zippos might remove the poster boards from around the park (eventually!), but they certainly don't from the empty shops on Forest Hill Road. Nor do they seem to feel the need to ask permission from the newsagent/post office to plaster them all over his newspaper delivery box.

Speaking of Rightmove & insane prices, has anyone seen this shed for sale on Forest Hill Road? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42812591.html It's on the corner of Forest Hill Road & Brenchley Gardens - attached is 2 photos of what it looks like from the street. ?350K, one bed 'mini house'

East Dulwich Kitten found far from home
elloriac replied to fromthedarkside's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Singalto, the OP said that the vet is trying to contact the owner via the chip details. -
Whether or not you think prices in East Dulwich/Forest Hill are too high, if you watched the programme, they wanted to move as they were spending 4 hours/day commuting and had no time for socialising with their friends or spending any time together as a couple. Staying where they were didn't seem to be an option.

The ones that run the whole length of the road do make a difference (ie Dunstans Road), but the ones that are just cushions (?) with two or three across the road don't. We have those on our road, and they slow down the little cars (Smart cars and other narrow wheel base cars) but regular cars, 4X4s and vans just carry on as though they aren't there. Our road is supposed to be 20mph, but it's just ignored and I hear vans especially zooming down at many times of the day - and that's with parked cars on both sides of the road. It's not rubbish.

Hi JS33, I wouldn't use a dog only area as my dog doesn't like other dogs - not in an aggressive way, but he is a solitary animal and just likes having his walk around the park and sniffing at whatever gets his interest. He wouldn't enjoy being in an enclosed area where he was unable to get away. Dogs have different characters and different histories that colour their reactions to situations, same as people, we don't all like the same things :-) (not meaning to sound patronising, but realise it reads that way a bit, sorry!)

I haven't completed the survey yet, but thought others might be interested in contributing - beginning questions are of the very vague type, hopefully it will improve! From http://www.southwark.gov.uk/dogsinparks Dogs in parks: We want you to have your say Southwark Council welcomes responsible dog owners and their dogs to our parks and open spaces. Unfortunately incidents relating to dogs have been increasing, and we want to address this. We think that irresponsible dog owners are in the minority, but they are costing the tax payer money spent on clearing up dog fouling, and affecting the enjoyment of some visitors to our parks. Survey 2013 We are seeking your views on what you think the issues are and what you would like us to do to combat them. Please complete our online survey by the deadline of 16 September 2013 This is your chance to give us your views, which we will use to influence our plan of action.

Yes, herons eat ducklings. I've seen the heron in the pond in Peckham Rye Park try to snatch one up before, thankfully its parent managed to get it out of harms way. (video of a heron eating one in Ireland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KEW5w-k9d8 and some pictures in the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthpicturegalleries/8586845/Photographer-Paul-Hughess-images-of-a-grey-heron-feasting-on-ducklings.html)

Whether it was 12 hours or 24, animals need to have drinking water available at all times. Especially in this weather. Well done first mate

Sorry, we've recycled the letters but we're pretty sure they were from Southwark Council, don't remember seeing any other logos. -

We received notification of both sets of works (existing & yesterday, resurfacing), we live on Ryedale. -
best route by car from guildford to ED
elloriac replied to pilsbury's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We go a similar way to ijb, but avoiding Tooting. I wouldn't imagine that he'll get it much under 1 hour though. -
If anyone is a fan of this pub (huge improvement on the dive it was before), you may wish to know that the landlord is trying to sell it to a retail company and has applied for planning permission to turn the top into flats. The planning application is here: http://acolnet.lewisham.gov.uk/LEWIS-XSLPagesDC/acolnetcgi.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=67504 A group of supporters are planning on raising the issue at the open forum at a council meeting today, meet at the Catford Bridge Tavern for 10:30am this morning if you'd like to go along, council meeting is at 11am. The pub is planning on keeping people informed about what they can do via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/catfordbridgetavern and twitter I'm not connected to the pub but have spent some fabulous evenings there with my Catford mates and would hate to see it close. Thanks.

Dog poo no longer removed promptly
elloriac replied to Fuschia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
NL, that's Fuschia's point! There is a number that you can call to have it removed by the council if the selfish, thoughtless person doesn't pick up after their pooch. But apparently, the response time has been changed to 48 hours. -
Oh yes, us too! :-) Aluminium versus wood? Glass versus plastic/polycarb/acrylic? worth shelling out for automatic opening temperature-sensor window? Anything else to think about? Thanks!

Peckham Rye 1 o'clock club under threat of closure

Yes, I think it's quite safe. I've never felt threatened in any way. However, would agree with dubluke - the path running between the cafe and fenced off park area is not very well lit and is a bit dangerous because of the potholes (not to mention the mud, puddles and dog mess!) that you can't see. If you can stand a bit more time with the traffic, I would agree with the recommendation to run along to Colyton and around that way. There is usually quite a number of other joggers around the common&park, so you won't be alone.

We've had great experiences with both Pigeon Recovery in Sutton (various pigeons of various ages and injuries) and more recently The Wildlife Lodge (injured crow). Would highly recommend both.

I believe it's being investigated as an alternative to extending the 63 to Honor Oak Park station, as there no standing room for a bus there, so instead they were talking about extending the 172 past Honor Oak Park and around to Forest Hill Road. I'm not sure how far it would be travelling on from there.

Cobnuts? http://yaymicro.com/stock-image/cob-nuts/2327275 Was it the tree at the corner of Brenchley Gardens and Kelvington? If so, I picked some up yesterday & ate them, with no ill effects thus far :-) Now I'm not sure whether they are cobnuts or hazels, but I think the pods/bunches look like the above image of cobnuts, though when I've bought them from a fruit stalls they haven't looked like that, but perhaps the ones on Brenchley aren't fully ripe yet...
-
They sound like hazelnuts - the woman (whose name I've forgotten) who did the grow your own veg talk for the Dulwich Veg meeting brought a seedhead/bunch/thingy along, and it sounds like it might be your 'creature'. She said there were lots of hazelnut trees round East Dulwich. They are ripe when they fall off the tree. Does this page help? http://www.arborday.org/programs/hazelnuts/consortium/types.cfm

Where can I collect berries/fruit?
elloriac replied to ontherye32's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
we tend to go by look & feel rather than wait for the frost - and round here, if you wait for frost, there won't be anything left on the tree! they are very early this year - huge & juicy already -
More Dogs in Peckham Rye Park
elloriac replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think that he means the flower beds inside The Oval? They've got a very low black fence around it, with signs that says No Dogs. The area outside is fine for dogs, but not in by the flower beds. The only other area where dogs aren't allowed, according to the Southwark website, is the Arboretum: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/461/a_to_z_of_parks/662/peckham_rye_park_and_common/1
