  3. Hi Just cycled past two guys on a scooter, number plate obscured, one with a balaclava - checking out a motorbike around the back of Hilversum Crescent. They sped off when they saw me looking at them. The bike they were looking at is chained up with a cover on.
  4. Hi, yes it was locked to the proper parking stands by the crossing. I was trying to keep it in view while I was in the Co-op, but hey.
  5. Hi Big blue Klein Attitude mountain bike which was locked outside Co-op, taken at about 8pm tonight - very distinctive due to its size. Only left it for a few minutes. Any sightings or info about where to look out for it would be appreciated. Thanks.

  7. I just wanted to second this recommendation for Gary Skinner. First Choice Decorating have just finished work on our living room, dining room and the outside of our front bay window. We're really happy with the finish. The walls and coving were in a bad state and they've all been repaired and look as good as new. They did a great job on the woodwork which was all very chipped, repaired a broken floorboard and fitted beading to the top of the skirting in the dining room so it matched the skirting in the living room - all looks great. The sill of the front bay window was cracked & badly damaged and and again we're really pleased with how that's turned out. They left everything tidy at the end of each day and did a great job clearing up at the end. We would definitely use First Choice Decorating again.
  8. Hi, do you also [still] run the Saturday and Sunday morning sessions at JAGS, or is that a different set-up now? Thanks
  9. Anyone know who this dog belongs to please? Had a summer of continuous evening/night woofing, and enough's enough.
  10. Hi, we had the same situation a couple of years ago, and after much searching on the internet discovered that bumble bees are protected and that we shouldn't disturb the nest. We really wanted just to move the nest so that we could use the compost bin again, and had no desire to harm the bees in any way. So, we left them be for the summer and used a temporary compost bin. They were no trouble and we (including our little boy) found them fascinating. As mentioned above they vacated or died off at the end of the summer and we reclaimed the bin. We became quite attached to them, so during that summer we bought a bee house in the hope that they would move or come back, but they never did :-(
  11. Hmmm, anyway, back to topic.... FYI, there were three horses in the field yesterday evening, one chestnut and two white ones with light brown markings. I think the the chestnut is the same horse that foaled this time last year (photo attached). They seemed happy enough, but I'll cycle past tomorrow morning and ask about their collective mood.
  12. Yowzer, sorry to hear that, and hope you're okay. I go through there every day, and I've had to stop a couple of times, once with having a puncture and (last week) someone I was cycling behind got a puncture. I stopped to make sure he was kitted up, but didn't think to stop longer for these reasons. On the route I normally come from (canal then Glengall Road) there are usually quite a few cyclists together after being released by the traffic lights over the Old Kent Road - a few cyclists together is a good deterrent. Coming home in the dark seems dodgier. Maybe if people are reading this then they (especially big ugly geezers like me) could make the effort to hook up briefly with lone cyclists, and ride in convoy through the 'dodgy' bits'.
  13. seanmlow my missing the point was deliberate, you were caught and fined, it's a fair cop guv. the other people got away this time, as do millions of other misdemeanours every day. life just ain't fair is it?
  14. Absolutely fair! And you should be back-charged for all the other butts you've dropped over the years. I've never understood why it's socially unacceptable to drop litter, but absolutely fine to drop burning fag-ends wherever you like. Or why it's wrong to empty your car ash-tray at traffic lights, but okay to drop single fag-ends.
  15. I agree with mattham, and the first one always seems to happen cycling up Adys Road! And I'd add wearing headphones to the 3rd point too - I can't think of a more inconsiderate and stupid thing to do, besides riding blindfolded and naked down the canal path whilst blowing a dog whistle. I think the one thing that rankles me is pedestrians who walk out in front of me whilst on the phone. And they're usually totally oblivious to the fact that they've almost *killed* me. ratty makes a fair point - statistically, aren't most cyclist deaths caused by collisions between cyclists turning right and lorries turning left at junctions? I see a lot of cyclists trying their utmost to get past that lorry at a junction. I remember a book about traffic guidelines for driving in Thailand. Rule 1 - The larger vehicle has priority. Rule 2 - see Rule 1. Cookie makes really good points IMHO. There's a percentage of bad/inconsiderate drivers for any vehicle group. I started (but haven't finished) my advanced motorbike test a couple of years ago, and they really hammer you with all the safety aspects of driving. One school of thought is that any accident you have is your own fault, because you weren't prepared (because of your new-found advanced road craft and awareness skills) for the situation that arose to cause it. Maybe a bit extreme, but it certainly makes me more cautious. Well, that and a few trips to A&E. Luckily, I took the train today so I can have a beer after work, otherwise fate would be gunning for me :-)
  16. I also cycle from ED to Liverpool street - down crystal palace road, bellenden road, surrey canal, and cycle route 22 through the back streets of bermondsey, london bridge, bank, old broad street. Takes 25-30 mins, but coming home in the summer was a dream, especially after a quick beer just to miss the traffic :-) My GPS thingy measures the route at roughly 9.13km. Quite a nice route, especially the canal (even dodging the pit bulls in the summer) - wouldn't mind if they extended it a couple of miles in both directions! I ride a single speed (gave up fixed wheel for the winter) Surly with really skinny GatorSkin tyres. Got my first puncture of the year yesterday, probably due to the heavy rain which washes all the nasty sh*t to the side of road just where cyclists cycle. Have ridden mountain bikes with road tyres over the years, but the road bike with skinny tyres make it a whole lot easier & quicker for me :-) I wear 'proper' cycling gear and I'm still in shorts, but it got a little cool last week! Soon I'll look like I'm cycling to the ski slopes. My route is usually quite uneventful until I get to London Bridge, and then it gets a little fraught, mainly with kamikaze pedestrians and converging traffic. So, I take it fairly easy from the south side of the bridge. I commuted from Surrey on a motorbike for years, which hammered home a self-preservation mentality and an acute red-mist awareness. Bendy buses - why?!?! Totally inappropriate for London's thin roads, and an absolute minefield for cyclists. That's why some genius thought of double deckers. Boris gets my vote on that one. Beats public transport by a non-country mile, and keeps you fit :-)
  17. Until last Saturday, we had some building materials (mostly chipboard) outside our house. This prompted a letter from the council saying that we were at risk of arson! Apparently it's been a problem over the years. Cue prompt removal! They didn't mention recycling bins though.
  18. There are also some over-the-counter things that you can buy at the chemist which can cut it down - i have some spray which you use on the back of your throat, and some sweet-like things (like the really thin minty things which were trendy a couple of years ago) which you also put on the back of your throat which 'melt'. I think both these things keep your throat more open and cut down snoring. They seem to work okay, but I only ever use them after a night out (so, errm, rarely) when I know I'll be snoring. I did some research a couple of years ago and there are lots of things you can do, but it seems that alcohol, health, and weight play the biggest part! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4456687.stm See attached file too.
  19. Bizarrely, we had someone walk over our [not posh] car a couple of months back, I'd guess kids mucking about - noticeable because the car was so dirty that the evidence was plain to see - I should've taken a couple of moulds! A couple of small dents which is fairly irritating. Don't know if they 'played' the whole road.
