I get on with young people a lot better than people my own age.. Some of these people are being forced out of the area to be able to buy their first homes, have a family and find schools.. I do not believe E.D. is a better place to be old with or without kids.. But where is.. ? Foxy

I was not trying to make a point... It was meant as a piece of Historic Interest... Well of interest to people who are interested in the area and not out to belittle someone at every oppotunity. Therefore NOT bollocks.. DF

What Louisa said... Just plain common sense and reasoning... I just happen to know that a local Curry house is being asked ?65K per annum. and not the biggest restaurant. and strangely enougth they too have to pay Rates, Electricity, Gas, Specialized Staff, Insurance... So when people talk about Value for money.. It does come down to what you get for your money.. Yes.. surrounding do play a part... but having said that.. ...I have in the past had some pretty decent breakfasts in some of the Greasiest of Spoons you will ever find. Foxy.

BrandNewGuy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I thought that ED station is staffed from first > train to last ? which is more than it was in the > past. Hi Guy.. I dont use the station frequently... but I did notice the Ticket Office seemded to be manned the other day.. .. but I cannot recall seeing anyone on the platforms on the couple of times I have used the train from Sth Bermonsey after football 10.00pm ish. I doubt they will be standing sitting on the platform in the cold.. Foxy -
My house on Ulverscroft is one of 6 built in 1887... The cost of the 6 houses was ?420. ?70. each... and the rent for each house was ?5. per year.. And East Dulwich was a lot more gentrified in 1887... DulwichFox

Sue Wrote: Why do you bother ever going out?! You could just sit at home all day, cook every meal for yourself, and drink a pint or two in the evening much cheaper than going out for it. If you used paper plates and cups, you wouldn't even have to wash up :)) Apart from my daily walks and shopping I do sit at home all day.. I do Cook every meal myself.. ...and I do have a beer or two in the evening.. though I don't regularly drink at home alone.. ...Please don't begrudge me the luxuary of having the odd pint or two a couple of nights a week.. ...I simply can no longer afford to eat and drink out every night like I once did... ...Paper plates... ??? I like porcelain.. did you not see the thread on eating off of wooden boards.. :) ... I have no problem with washing up.. it gets me up off my A*** for a while.. :) Foxy

*Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I can't understand why anyone would pay ?12 for a > bog-standard 'curry' on Lordship Lane - when you > can cook something much more interesting and nicer > at home for a quarter of the price, but people do. > Beats me. Seriously! That is partly true... If you are cooking a curry for a family of 4... its cheaper... cooking for one is not always as economical. Well being diabetic it is essential to eat regular meals every 4-5 hours.. ...So having to prepare breakfast... lunch ... an afternoon snack ... and an evening meal every day gets tedious. So I afford myself the luxuary of eating out once or twice a week.. not every night like I used to.. Hope thats ok with you.. And lots of people pay ?12.00 for a bog standard curry...(Well more like ?15 - ?18) without drinks.. ?25 - ?28+ with drinks.. Foxy

Is there a local ED station group? hanging baskets etc?!
DulwichFox replied to madger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's a lovely idea.. But.. With an unmanned station the baskets would need to be placed at a height where thay could not be stolen. This would make watering more difficult.. Also they are not cheap. (that's why they get stolen) Where would the water come from. ? Who would water them ? Who's going to pay for the baskets ? Health and safety. ? OK. will wait for the tirade about Foxy putting obstacles in the way.. DulwichFox -

I think I would prefer the station to be staffed at all times and the dangerous slopes to the platforms improved. Also better lighting. DulwichFox -

Are there restrictions on burning paper in gardens?
DulwichFox replied to kristymac1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anything that produces smoke cannot be burnt.. All clean paper should be put in The Blue Bin.. Any Shreaded paper should be put in an envelope / paper bag and placed in Blue Bin. Small amounts of Shreaded paper can be put in Brown Bin for composting. DulwichFox -
disabled bays.. do they 'belong' to anyone?
DulwichFox replied to shell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having a disabled parking bay outside your home doesn?t guarantee that space for you or the disabled person in your household. A disabled bay road marking may be ?advisory? or ?mandatory?. An advisory disabled bay road marking is not enforceable No action can be taken by the police or the council if a non-disabled person or indeed another disabled person parks in the disabled bay A mandatory disabled bay road marking is enforceable by law We can take action against anyone parking in the disabled bay without displaying a blue badge http://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/adult-social-care-and-health/transport-for-older-and-disabled-people/apply-for-a-disabled-parking-space-outside-your-house Info for Leicester.. So just a Guide. DulwichFox -

I took the early option to reserve Windows 10. and later got an Alert from Microsoft hat Windows had been downloaded and was ready to be installed... ... I did nothing but every time I shut down Windows attempted to instal Windows 10. This took ages and the instal failed. So I had to wait a couple of hours before I could turn off my PC> ... I then removed the Files for The Windows 7 - 10 Upgrade and all was fine.. My version of Windows 7 was itself an upgrade from Vista. (That terrible OS that replaced the wonderful Windows XP.) I now have a Windows Logo on my task bar (Get Windows 10) I am not convinced Windows 10 will instal and I really dont want to through all that palava again. DulwichFox

Well when CPZ is introduced .. most yellow lines will disappear... Cycle Hangars will be gone... Southwark Council will be charging ?1,200+ a year for every parking space.. and they are going to use every inch of space for cars. Just see how much Southwark Council will care about Cycles then..
