The Greek military junta of 1967?74, commonly known as the Regime of the Colonels put off foreign tourists to visiting the country. Greece was a poor country. After that period turism picked up. Record spending by foreigners as Greece's tourism industry slashed prices helped the country's current account post its first surplus last year since official data began in 1948, Greece joined the European Union in 1981 A Tourism boom drove Greece to the first current account surplus on record How things have changed. If the Tourists stop going back to Greece, Greece could struggle to recover. DulwichFox

If the views of everyone here on EDF were the same, then a comparison could be made with the rest of E.D. residents. But as peoples views of EDF users and the views of Non EDF users will both differ no real conclusion of any relevant representation can be made.... Life goes on with or without EDF. and in the long run EDF has no more influence over what happens in the community that what other people are doing. DulwichFox

I am getting very concerned.. Aircraft literally fly directly over my house.. I sit in my garden and they do not bother me... Indoors with my windows closed, I do not hear them. What concerns me is... ...Am I going deaf.?? DulwichFox

Boris Bikes are now called Santander Cycles... Perhaps E.D. should have Foxton Bicycles.. That should go down well. :) Foxy. (no Relation)

Anyone remember Fred Wedlock Early One Evening (tune: Early one morning) from an album by: Fred Wedlock Early one evening, just as the pubs were opening A traveller came a-walking down a cold and misty street. Seeing the door ajar, stepped into the public bar. "Landlord I would like a jar, and something nice to eat." "I fancy some crusty bread and roast beef of old Eng-el-and Butter from the churn and tangy homemade pickle too. And if you think you could draw some bitter from the wood, I'd be quite content to quaff a foaming pint or two." "I'll sit by the fireside and contemplate eternity, The comfort of your hostelry will cleave unto my heart, And if a regular should chance to come into the bar, Maybe I'll engage him in a contest with the dart." "'Allo" said the landlord "I've got frozen fishpaste sandwiches, And Soya sausage substitute I purchase by the ton, And if you fancy it, I might defrost a bit, And plaster it with ketchup in a supermarket bun." "I'll sling you a fizzy pint of super-sparkle Ready-Brew, As advertised on telly by a famous rugby scrum. No dirty barrels here?- we keeps hygienic beer, Safely paralysed inside an aluminium drum." "Sit by the fireside, I'll turn the logs on right away. Maybe you would like to try our latest fruit machine. Three cherries in a row?- that'll set your heart aglow. I'll just turn on the jukebox, that'll really set the scene." The traveller sat sadly in the polystyrene inglenook, And felt his ears vibrating to the electronic sound. Took a bite, began to chew. Sipped his pint of Ready Brew. Gave a ghastly gurgle?- and fell dead upon the ground. "Oh dear," said the landlord as he turned the colour telly on, "Another fatal accident, the third this week I fear. If they can't hold their own why don't they just stay at home. We don't 'arf get some bloody funny customers round here." Foxy

Just a guy who doesn't buy into the > "zeitgeist" of newly affluent East Dulwich. I had to Google zeitgeist (sorry about that) It's not that I don't buy into the "zeitgeist" (spirit of the age or spirit of the time) of newly affluent East Dulwich. I've had my time. it now time for others to have their time. But they need to leave just a little space. All this "if you don't like it. you know where the door is." attitude is bad. It's bad for the whole of Society. It destroys communities.. I have no problem with Wealth or Affluence or even Class. Only when people use those things as a weapon of abuse of others and as a tool to promote self interest. That is Greed. I'm not exactly poor, but I choose to live a simplistic life with a simple routine. If some people have a problem with that, and throw insults and abuse then there's not much I can do. DulwichFox -

We are wasting our time Lou.. *bob* is not interested in any meaningful conversation on any subject. I'm having an hour or so out to Stick Pins in my Eyes and lay down in a dark room. Foxy -
Oddly enough The Cherry Tree was one of the few pubs that would show Millwall games. Not that Millwall have many games on TV. The EDT with 3 screens are not allowed through company policy to screen Millwall games. The Castle also Screens Millwall games. DulwichFox

I think Wimpy on Rye Lane became a Starburger. Plate Knife and Fork. There was also a Wimpy on Walworth Rd. When myself and best mate were 18ish we used to 'go up West' to Oxford St. Wimpy and the Golden Egg We thought we were the Bees Knees. I suppose it would be fair to say the same today about youngsters going to Franco Manca. Foxy

*bob* Most of the time I use Google links to convey knowledge of the things I already know something about. Usually where people have asked for info I go to the trouble of investigating and pointing them in the right direction and also learning myself. It's in my nature to help people. Not insult them. Where I have used Google to find info for other people I provide a link to the source of that info to comply with rules of etiquette concerning the author of that info. Your last post was meaningless in the context of this thread.. -
I don't think I could tell the difference between McDonalds and Burger King. I have tried both on the odd occasion and they are both dreadful. They are supposed to be freshly cooked and the buns 'Toasted' but they are always soggy. Wimpy used to be good. DulwichFox

Well in the 50's many people did not have a Television. We didn't . So we went to the Cinema to see the Moving Pictures (Flicks) and Talkies.. Some were even in colour. and after we had Fish & Chips in newspaper.(not because it was trendy) walking along the road. No Burgers back then. No Pizza, Chinese, Curry, Takeaways. Some Cinemas sold Hot-Dogs.. Foxy.. -

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do Ryanair flights land on runways? > > Louisa. Yes they do but not necessary at the right Airport.. Ryanair flight lands at wrong airport From a height of 33,000ft, the world below can seem a tranquil if confusing place. Gazing down through a veil of cloud, it's not difficult to confuse one main road with another or to mix up two different towns. Apparently, it's also quite easy to mistake one airport for another, even if you're the one flying the plane. That seems to have been the case when the captain of a Ryanair flight from Liverpool to the City of Derry airport brought his plane down at a military airbase five miles away. http://www.theguardian.com/business/2006/mar/30/theairlineindustry.travelnews Foxy
