  2. this happened to a van on Overhill Road a couple of weeks ago. our neighbour saw someone break a lock, take tools and drive off in silver car. I don't think she was able to give many details but will check if she reported it.
  3. Hi, has anyone had experience applying for street lamp to be moved for drop curb/ off street parking. Following the feasibility survey southwark council estimated cost of ?4500 to move the lamp alone. Since I have emailed to query the cost they have stopped responding.
  4. Hate to be cynical ( was had by a chatty Oxfam bibbed girl recently) but young girl and boy currently going door to door for Dr Banardo's. Overheard one say 'did you get anything yet' other said ' na thought I had two of them at one point'. Just to be warned this evening as charity has become a popular scam.
  5. so much for social services and southwark council typical labour. -------------------- Sean Of Dulwich They are trying and Ace of Clubs homeless centre have been working hard to help him too, as with many homeless people it can be complicated.
  6. yes seems i was scammed last night around 6.30 7pm on Overhill Road. Same girl as your description. I gave her ?5, it was only as she was leaving and just put it in her pocket that i felt something wasn't right. Was busy cooking so didn't think any more of it till this morning. Will tell the neighbours, sounds like she may be back. going to report it to police too.
  7. I have read this thread for a while and am very tentative about contributing but feel compelled to say....Please give Podrick the time of day if you see him. Sit down and have a chat, he will gladly tell you his story but you will also find he is a kind, friendly, funny, intelligent man who appreciates a chat. I saw him today for the first time since before Christmas and he's not doing as well, having lost everything again. There was an incident at Sainsburys today where he was accused of being 'completely pissed and aggressive' towards a member of staff. I did not see this but had been talking to him for a good half hour before going in to shop and although he had a drink he was very sound. He does get verbal when treated like a spectacle or a nuisance by onlookers at bus stops, shops etc or moved on by security or police and i don't blame him. I have spoken to the authorities who are continuing to help, hopefully something suitable will be accepted soon. In the meantime he appreciates the help and kindness many local people are showing him.
  8. I am all in favour of customer only parking, i have 3 pets registered there for regular check ups. My point is that i have never noticed these signs as they are stuck on the inside of darkened windows which does not make them prominent to a driver in contrast to the signs posted clearly outside the tiling shop.
  9. Some of the shops have 'No Parking' written across the spaces but not the vets
  10. I can appreciate the need but dont agree that they are clear at all...posted behind darkened windows and particularly on a sunny day when the awnings are down or when a car is parked in front on them.
  11. Hi, has anyone else been caught out with a parking ticket outside Lordship Lane Vets up by the south circular? I have parked along that strip of shops for many years without restrictions. More recently some parking spaces have 'No Parking' written across them but the vets, which i use a fair bit, don't have any sign outside. On this occasion I was using a neighbouring shop but could not see any reason that i couldn't park outside the Vets. It was only when i received a parking charge notice and went back to see what I had missed that i was shown 2 notices alongside other posters in the shops darkened glass windows. To me, as a driver, it really isn't obvious (or the type of sign i would be looking for) unless you are standing at the shop window. FlashPark is a private company working on their behalf, I have appealed but this has been declined. IS THIS LEGAL?!?
  12. I passed this yesterday. In all the commotion I couldn't believe what I was seeing..... a group of school kids at the pedestrian crossing were filming and taking pictures with their phones whilst the ambulance crew were trying to pull one of the casualties out of the car on to a stretcher! I felt so angry I wanted to shout at them but thought i should concentrate on my driving. Unbelievable!
  13. It looks like they are taking our comments on board. The Surgery have responded to my email and the reception staff have been booked on a Customer Service Training course running throughout the year.
  14. I have been with the surgery for around 15 years and have many times had similar experiences to the first post. The doctors and staff in general are great but one receptionist does seem to create a rather hostile 'us and them' atmosphere with the others from behind the glass. In the days before the automated check-in I had been waiting an hour ( half hour waits were quite usual at the time and being 8 months pregnant i wasn't in too much of a rush). I went up to the desk to ask where i was in the queue. The receptionist realised she had not marked me present but instead of apologising she turned her back finding it hilariously funny with another receptionist. This week i received an email response to my request for a re prescription. Even though it was not signed it was written in a manner I have become familiar with. The prescription was rejected as it was from some time ago. I replied that it would be polite and helpful to advise how I should go about reordering. I received a phone call from the receptionist saying that 'this had been passed back at her because apparently I was not happy with her email'. There are plenty of notices around telling us how we should behave towards staff. Surely it is a receptionists job to be courteous and helpful(they are being paid for it) as much as it is for us to be polite back. I have seen other patients receiving similar attitude and regrettably I do feel the need to write in to what is otherwise a very good surgery.
  15. Andy came round same day after finishing another job to help with a broken bed. Wouldn't charge as it ended up being a simple job but am booking him in for some larger jobs soon. Was really impressed with his manner and enthusiasm to help.
  16. emergency service booked out. could have been an expensive bank hol call out but Nico came round soon after my call and sorted the problem. Waters back on, a Happy Easter ?thanks to Nico!
  17. Hi Loreta we are away from 12th Dec to 3rd jan and looking for someone to look after a very friendly jack russell. please call 07767 250860 if this sounds of interest thanks Nicki
  18. Saw all the recommendations for Terry on the forum, called him yesterday and he was round within the hour. Spent half a day doing a variety of jobs quickly and professionally and wouldn't even take a tea break. Very reasonable rates will definitely use him again.
  19. thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I have contacted Bloomfield and will go from there.
  20. Many thanks for these tips. to Alice, we are looking for a second opinion following the educational psychologists report once he is in a school with a proper SENCO. We have suspected for a while but were reassured by his current school that he is young in the year and needed a little more time. Meanwhile he has slipped further and further behind his peers. He shows many classic signs of dyslexia guessing words, reading them backwards, missing lines. He has auditory skills above and beyond his age but poor reading, writing and short term memory...according to the EP, which i would go along with. Goodrich would be our nearest school if anyone has experience of their SEN system? We were going the private route but have not gained a place anywhere. thanks
  21. we are currently looking at our local primary schools Goodrich, Fairlawn etc. and non selective private for 7+. Does anyone have experience or recommendations of schools particularly good in helping kids with dyslexia. Also any tutoring outside school is something we would look at. any advise welcome.
  22. How much do people pay for evenings out now? for a qualified child minder and for say an 18 year old responses much appreciated
  23. Dear Ladies, thanks for all your advise it has been much appreciated. However, as a first time user to such sites, I am going with my intitial reservations and will be opting out of any future postings due to a small number of peoples (ie. Bibs) unconstructive replies. Its like having a conversation with someone who is not really listening to you and just wants to do all the talking with their own preconceived opinions and issues in mind. I did not expect to be seen before 15 weeks as i only registered around then or did I expect to be seen at home. What I did expect was the service i was told i would receive and that was to be able to have a home birth with consistant care from the same 1 or 2 midwives who would be there at the delivery. As I understood it you are booked in with a midwife who is not going to be on leave around your due date. I was seen twice by two different people with a third I had not met on call for the home delivery, but when it came to it I was told to go in to hospital. Although the site is useful to gain and share information and support I think it is ruined by the few who like to sit on the computer on an evening with a bottle of wine and have a rant at people on issues they dont seem to know much about. thanks again for all the other suggestions.
  24. Hi there I am 6 weeks pregnant and just starting to look into which midwife center to join once Im a bit further along. I was with Oakwood 4 years ago and found the service inadequate. I was seen initially at home and my first impression of the service was how casual it all seemed. A lady turned up with what looked like a grubby school lunch box covered in old stickers for a medical box.I was then told I would be seen by someone else next time as the first lady was going on holiday. After my second visit I was told my key worker was being replaced as she had decided to leave. I went in to labour 2 weeks early and when I paged the third lady (who i had not met) I was told everyone was too busy and I should go to hospital. When i came out of hospital there were messages on mobile from the center asking, quite rudely, why I had not been in touch with the midwife to tell her that everything was ok. luckily i had a very easy pregnancy first time round and knew little of the complications that can arise. This time i am a lot more nervous after some previous problems and really expect the reassurance from a more reliable team. So any tips would be most welcome.
