  1. I went to an all girls , Waverley , my sister also at Sydenham girls and we both agreed co-ed for our kids . I don't see the point in single sex when we live in a country that is integrated. A lot of girls found it quite hard to relate to the opposite sex and some just became absolutely boy made because there wasn't any school. I think its part of growing up getting along with all cultures and gender. But different folks , different strokes !
  2. Brilliant that it made the newspaper !
  3. This popped up on my Facebook and I couldn't help but think of Dulwich! http://www.buzzfeed.com/floperry/quinoa-sourdough?utm_term=2rugbrp&s=mobile
  4. My five years old is definitely aware of his environment and really appreciates a good building . In fact he will discuss at lengths the details of various buildings that catches his eye so it's absolutely incorrect to dismiss children as not being aware of their school surroundings . I recall what my primary school looked like , it was a huge Victorian building with toilets outside and cast iron radiators with huge halls and parquet flooring throughout , isn't it usually imprinted on most peoples minds, their primary schools ?
  5. Hideous and not in keeping with the current buildings in Dulwich but hey ho , what do I know ?
  6. Thank you so much for the above post . It's extremely helpful .
  7. Ditto that Quids , I tried moving out and the novelty wore off after a year so we came back. You can take the girl out of London but you can't take London out of the girl definitely applied to me .
  8. Good luck with your move and I hope you settle . ClareC, I think London is great for kids , so much to do and easy access to the country also but I appreciate that we all seek different things at different times of our lives .
  9. I agree with Bawdy Nan. I went to Waverley Girls on the Harris Girls site and most of my friends came from further afield ( Bermondsey, New Cross, Camberwell , Peckham and only one from Dulwich). I do think it's because it's a single sex school so not as popular . I wouldn't want my child going to a single school . I think it makes it difficult to relate to the opposite sex , at least it did for all of us .
  10. Just Williams, Sainsbury's and the toy/art shop in Dulwich Village. Not sure about AJ Farmer.
  11. What is the stats for Charter, Habs and Kingsdale with regards to ethnicity ? just so that we can compare in case it's a name issue (Harris) or the fact it's a single sex school etc thus not making it a popular choice for Dulwich parents ?
  12. It's london , you don't have to go far at all to find diversity .
  13. Surely Harris can pull out if they wanted to especially knowing this isn't Nunhead and we don't want them ? Harris doesn't HAVE to build on the Dulwich hospital site if they don't want to or am I being naive in thinking Harris has the option to reject the site or to refuse to build another school given that they are not needed ?
  14. 'Could' doesn't mean they WILL. We will cross each bridge when we come to it but right now we are making it clear we want a certain amount of Space for a NHS centre plus a Secondary School with grounds . We don't want a Harris primary for Nunhead, everything else is as and when .
  15. I did what Slad suggested , I just used to suck the snot out , quick , effective and does the job ! The things we do as a parent !
  16. Could you show me where it stated in the original petition that we were signing for a Nunhead school to be opened in Dulwich and that both would be by Harris ?
  17. I was one of those that signed for a new primary in the area but no way did I want TWO Harris primary schools . If I had known that my signature would have been abused in this way I would never have lent my support just as I hope my support for a new secondary isn't used to start opening up a secondary school for say Forest Hill within Dulwich just because I signed a petition for what I assume to be one secondary on the hospital site . Renata,I am in total agreement with you .
  18. Ditto everything LondonMix said.
  19. His first post said Charlie Smith if you look at User History.
  20. Also it wasn't clear by the Harris petition that parents were signing up to have TWO Harris primary schools in the East Dulwich area . I assumed it was just one school and that has been solved with the Police Station secured as a Harris primary .
  21. It seems by your email above it's just the name Harris Nunhead that you have an issue with so if it was called Harris Habs or Harris Dulwich two , that would be ok ?
  22. There is a Councillor Charlie Smith http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=625
  23. I don't really have much faith in Government departments after working for one and seeing families with children who have no special needs, looked after children etc from Camberwell getting into Dulwich schools whilst kids near the Dulwich schools have to travel further but that is another thread . As long as we get secondary school that isn't a Harris and a health centre I am happy .
