  1. Also a HBAED parent and my shy and very self conscious son has a lot of support and pastoral care to help him deal with his anxieties. I found them incredibly supportive. Our son has made some very good friends (none of his close friends from primary joined him at the school) and we've met some terrific supportive parents who are keen on the school developing into a first choice school. I would definitely recommend making an appointment to talk to the Deputy Head, Mr Groves, if possible, to discuss your concerns about your child. They are very open to speaking to parents and prospective parents (we even took our son on a personal tour prior to joining the school so he could familiarise himself with the environment). Being a girl free environment has been a positive for our shy and anxious son.
  2. I with you Heber Jumble Queen. My shy, anxious son has blossomed at Harris Boys. I also know shy boys who are doing well at FHB and Kingsdale. My son suits not having the pressure of girls around (his Charter friends were pressured into having 'girlfriends' in yr7).
  3. Hindmans Rd may not be the most attractive road but the skinny house is beautiful inside - much lighter and airy, architecture designed with a number of sky lights/roof lights and a pretty garden. I saw it a few years ago when previous owners were converting. Good example of what you can do with a small space. 4. Thank you so much everyone. Lots to look at. V interested in Scoliosis SOS. I also have it and was diagnosed late and ended up with lower spine damage (not helped by high impact basketball I played for over 10 years). Seeing the x-Ray of my son's spine made me weep. His is an unusual curve which could affect his chest and lungs if we don't get him more upright by using his core. I was a bit disappointed that the NHS don't seem to fund therapy.
  5. Oldest son (13) diagnosed with scoliosis and we now need to work out how we're going to get him to improve his posture. Pilates and yoga have been recommended by consultant but general Pilates class probably not suitable for a self conscious 13 year old. Does anyone know of a trainer in ED? How much should we expect to pay?
  6. Not just DKH - sadly there's been an increase in suicides since the start of the recession. Very, very sad. I wonder if it's proximity to the Maudsley has any effect? Regardless - not nice for all personally involved. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ofcourse it is very sad. 7. Oops, forgot this one http://sinetwork.publishpath.com/
  8. Hi, I also have a son with sensory processing disorder who is now 8 years old. We tended to do our own therapy threaded throughout all his activity but he also attended two different programmes at Sunshine House by referral of his Occupational Therapist. Has he got an Occupational Therapist at the moment? If yes, then they would definitely be able to help you with advice. I would also recommend the book Out of Synch Child http://out-of-sync-child.com/ if you haven't already read it. Our son has SPD associated with hypermobility but as it is often associated with other spectrum disorders, you may also find useful resources on sites for children with autism and dispraxia. There are also a number of websites that you might find useful (again, if you haven't already found them) - most of them American but a lot of the tools and equipment can be bought in the UK. http://www.spdfoundation.net/about-sensory-processing-disorder.html http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/ http://sensorysmarts.com/signs_of_spd.html Good luck.
  9. Just do it - you'll all get through it and over it before too long. Of course you'll both miss each other but stay up beat with them when you get in contact (we always call when we know they're up in the morning and again in the evening before bed as well as telling them they can ring any time with anything). All the best and glad to hear your Dad is up to travelling back home.
  10. Hmmm http://www.dcscience.net/?p=129
  11. Do you have any information from Southwark on concentration levels and does any of the research include lengths of exposure?
  12. Poor thing! We had something similar when oldest was 4. Great suggestions about Lego etc. we also did lots of baking - cakes and meals. Gardening worked for us as well as cleaning windows - lots of water = fun. Wishing him a quick recovery b
  13. We live on Hindmans and our son goes to Heber but we have an older child so he got in as a sibling. Other children in this road go to Goose Green (although that may be nursery) and St John & St Clements. Heber's over subscription at Reception is totally down to siblings. There's a lot of breeders ;-) Funny enough, from yr 3 onwards there's under subscription at the school as children leave to go to prep schools or move to Kent/Surrey for grammar schools.
  14. We ended up going with stainless steel around the hob and the main working area and lovely rich Sabelle wood (African red wood). Looks amazing and has softened the stark white kitchen units. Lashings of Danish oil on the wood and all still looking fab.
  15. There's a two bedroom house in a Hindmans Rd that can be much wider and went for about ?400k a year ago.
  16. With under subscription at Harris boy and Girls ED why exactly do we need this school?
  17. I forgot - salt gargles. And, lots of v positive sounds and hugs from family.
  18. Oh no! Poor her. Brings back dreadful memories - I also suffered terribly from tonsitis at that age plus being terribly afflicted by hayfever, I would throw everything at it. Antibiotics from GP, vit C and zinc, Bach flower, lots of regular neurofen and paracetamol on rotation and the healthy diet she's already following. All the best.
  19. Can't tell you latest costs but would def give another thumbs up to Russell and his team.
  20. Loving the thread but rather boringly can only think it's part of the planning permission for a luxury house with 2 stories plus basement development that was posted on the lamp post 6-8 months ago. I wonder if the basements planned for the other side of the street (old police station)will meet and provide a subterranean community.

They'll be hideously small .... And another plan for basements approved! Completely driven by money hungry developers trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the site. We'll end up with another Toy Town development like the one on the corner of Barry and Underhill.

What do you mean by both police stations? Only the Lordship Lane police station is going to a school. Or, am I missing info in another police station and another school?

The only reason I can think of is that they are there temporarily to store mechanical diggers etc to continue the work we had done at the other end of the street for the last 3-4 months.
  24. 41 properties over ?1M in SE22 on Right Move today - madness.
  25. Desert sands from North Africa. Heard about it on morning weather report. More to come today or tomorrow so I would hold off washing the car.
