  2. I stay a couple of streets away from the Gardens Surgery. I needed to go there recently for a checkup and I made.. or rather my good lady wife made.. an appointment for me (I'm male and therefore genetically incapable of using a telephone ;-) ) which does seem to be the best way but obviously if you've not planned your illness less than ideal. When I was there a number of people came in and asked for spare appointments and I could hear the phone being answered in the background. so although it may be tricky to get an appointment by phone it is possible. Of the people coming/phoning in most were getting appointments that day around the 9:00 - 9:30 mark (My appointment being 8:10) one thing I noticed. When I went to the surgery it was bucketing down. And the queue outside was less than I've seen it previously.. so if you can schedule your sickness for periods of inclement weather then you'll stand a better chance of the phone being answered ;-) )
  3. now I didn't know that !! am a huge fan of Steve Reich (and Philip Glass, Arvo Part, Michael Nyman, etc etc etc you get the picture!) but I rarely listen to the Orb. Mind you, oddly enough in my random musical wanderings I came across an Orb / David Gilmour combo which was .. interesting! .. it was called, erm, Metallic spheres ? or something similar !!) Now if David Gilmour did something with Steve Reich (or Philip Glass, Arvo Part, Michael Nyman, etc etc etc) I'd be in 7th Heaven ;)

  5. I've given up getting the bus and I just walk now. I normally only get the bus if I'm running late (which I usual am) but if it doesn't drop me outside Peckham Rye Station I'm no better off than if I just walk down Gowlett Rd and onwards onto Choumert Grove. Buses going the routes you expect them too.. it's a bit of a lottery sometimes !
  6. as a recent "immigrant" to London (I came from the lawless lands to the north known only as Scotland) I still get terribly geeky pleasure from suddenly seeing locations I actually recognise. Didn't realise ED was in 28 days later.. shall have to watch it again more closely. (I must have been the only person excited watching the recent Sherlock series jumping up and down going "Ooh ! I've been there!".. how very un-Londoner of me ;) )

  8. there was some filming going on the East Dulwich road last night (Tues 17th) just outside the bike shop. There were a number of vehicles parked in the fenced off area across the road at the junction of Oakhurst Grove. No idea what they were filming and I certainly didn't see anyone I recognised. I saw one fluorescent marker pointing towards parking. I "thought" it said either saltfilms.com or saltfilms.co.uk.. but somehow I doubt they were filming "Salt of the Earth - Palestinian Christians in the Northern West Bank" in East Dulwich ??
  9. as a geek, avid movie lover and music lover, I'd like a decent record / DVD / computer shop. and while I'd like to think I could single-handedly provide enough custom for them to make it financially viable.. somehow I think my Mrs might have something to say about that :) mind you , that said I wouldn't want the likes of an HMV or PC world in ED :) (especially when PC world is only a short bus ride away) I know with Amazon et al, you don't NEED a shop per se. But I'm old fashioned, I like rummaging. Amazon & co online shops are fine if you know exactly what you want, but I like going for a browse, finding some obscure 60's prog rock cd or some Norwegian film noir flick in the DVD bargain bucket ;)
  10. The number of times I've nipped in there to get something (margarine for example) and they've not had it defies belief. another thing I tried (and failed) to purchase was refried beans. Actually, on that night I nipped across to the little convenience store next to Locale and asked if they had refried beans in stock. I was promptly told "no such thing exists!" I've learnt it's often better to do the slightly longer walk to the Somerfield's on Lordship Lane than attempt the short stroll to the Tesco Depress .. express sorry..
