Give this a try: To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this: Be sure the computer is shut down. Press the power button. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear). During startup in Mac OS X v10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

Does anyone have newspaers delivered in ED?
AlexC replied to dulwichal's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Here's the link to the home delivery service, as opposed to the voucher based subscription: http://www.guardian.co.uk/subscriber-direct/welcome-to-subscriber-direct -
I ordered dessert at the Pizza Hut and they gave me tiramisu and a blindfolded horse. I said, 'No ? mascarpone'.

I'd love a Waitrose in ED but then I do have a vested interest as I work for them (well John Lewis Partnership, but same thing)....so ignore me! I just want somewhere close by to use my discount card. :)

One of my butlers usually fetches it for me.

Move to Croydon? Come on now, that's a bit harsh! :))

I quite agree re: supply and demand. If it's there, it's there because people are shopping there. I was just surprised how people get very defensive when people say they don't like it. So, another vote for a Waitrose from me then. :)-D ...although, the building would still be fugly though!

Just for my clarification, why is being proud of ED synonymous with liking Iceland? It's just another big chain shop. So what if it's been there 20+ years. Things change.

burglaries in Forest Hill/East Dulwich areas
AlexC replied to concita's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
concita - how did the burglar evade the movement detectors in your alarm system? That's the bit I don't get in these burglaries, but there is obviously a way of doing it! -

Anything that does, I would expect to see on the Met website and although there is definite work that needs doing it does not seem to point to a crime wave. -

Really sorry to what happened to you concita. It must have been terrible. Would people say that the stats found on the Met site, e.g. http://maps.met.police.uk/access.php?area=00BEGH&sort=rate&order=a&ct=3&crimetype-button= are accurate for residential burglaries? I know even one burglary is one too many, but the stats on there favour comparably to other areas of London I have lived in - areas I would rate as safe. Burglaries also seem to have been coming down steadily from 104 in 2007/08 to 82 last year. This is however presuming those stats are an accurate reflection of what actually goes on! I definitely feel a lot more aware of burglaries in ED, but more from the fact I read about them on here. -
Area near East Dulwich train station (West)
AlexC replied to showa58taro's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for the crime stats James. Makes for very interesting reading. I'm going to be moving to ED from Queens Park, NW London in a few weeks. I've never once felt un-safe in Queens Park after living there for over 5 years, including walking back home late at night etc.. It's quite an affluent area with lots of families, so it always felt very safe. Looking at the stats, reported crime incidents are about double in QP vs ED, including nearly double the instances of violence against the person! I would have thought the population of the ED ward would be more than QP, so the per capita stats would probably show a wider difference. Puts it all into perspective really! People are probably more aware of crime on this forum, because people post about it here. There is no such forum in QP that I'm aware of, so I never had any visibility of incidents. My conculsion is therefore, eater81 = troll
