Razors Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It seems to me that any tom, dick or harry can > open a food stall without prior permission or > knowledge of these so called elf and safety > people-thats researched! Researched? Where? Wikipedia maybe? You can't open up without prior permission, it's illegal. Antibes telling you different is lying or a fool. And if you read all posts > you would see that someone was advertising their > friends stall on here for free-it should be paid > for! Why that bothers you so much I have no idea. Btw has anyone ever seen elf inspectors at > these stalls? No! I wonder why. Are you there 24/7? Do you work for Southwark EHO? I'd guess not. Why don't you call the council before making accusations? What you're doing us insinuating that traders are acting illegally, and that goes beyond the trolling. Back up your facts or shut up. And what does 'I wonder why' mean? Are you accusing the council of something?
  2. And Razors demonstrates again that some people have no idea how modern food production legislation, Health and Safety laws and EHO compliance actually works. Do you really think it's possible to serve 'mystery meat' from a roadside stall, or be unable to demonstrate that you wash your hands? Do you have any idea how tight the law and the council EHO officers are these days? It's not like the 80's, when you could still smoke while cooking, for example. Which is a good thing of course. And why do you assume that a stall is likely to be unhygienic but, say, a restaurant won't be? In fact, why that stall and not any others down there, why single them out? Talk about bigoted... Maybe ask the people on the stall instead of spouting your mouth off about things you plainly have no understanding about. But I suppose it's easier to snipe at them over the net. And no, I don't know them - just have no time for such ignorance when people are just trying to make a living and bring a little colour to the area.
  3. I think the point made wasn't about revenue generation. As such - more a query over who or what will pay for the extension? Would it be increased fares or other funding?
  4. I'm sorry henryb, maybe I'm being thick here, but what do road costs have to do with it? The point is that to extend the service will require an increase in running costs. Where would these come from? It's a fair question.
  5. I already said that I accept it, but FHR doesn't experience the same kind of congestion - its a wider road with more scope for overtaking if needed, more side roads that people can turn off onto and the space to actually turn round if required. None of these exist over st Honor Oak once you're up the hill. My concern is that if it backs up there it will impact the route further on - precisely why it was originally split into the 363, as coming from Crystal PalCe there were issues that then affected the rest of the route. I don't pretend to have an answer here, hit somehow feel a solution using a more local route would be better.
  6. Gavin - how can you not understand the potential problems with congestion? You say you don't accept them, but have you personally taken a look at that road during peak times? It can take fifteen minutes sometimes to drive from the station to the top of the hill, and vice versa, such is the weight of traffic. Adding another bus into this has to be thought about carefully. I accept the desire for some kind of link, but surely it runs the risk of a knock on effect to the rest of the 63 route? There must be a better way.
  7. There's a big difference between a level of noise and having to deal with drunk fools leaving vomit and bodily fluids in your garden.
  8. Another shout here for Franklins. Much better food, less pretentious atmosphere.
  9. The point, Huguenot, is that no one is complaining about the other shops. Just the fast food joint. People complained about the trailer and it was moved eventually. Fair enough, job done. But then they find something else to complain about. That does look like snobbery.
  10. And I agree Bunty - they are scum. Really sorry to hear that.
  11. Buddug - it's not about believing him or not. The point being made is that you have a personal vendetta against the man and will spin anything he says to serve that end. Absolutely we must hold politicians to account, whether a PM or a local councillor. But we have to do so in a reasonable manner. Just because people are saying you go too far doesn't mean we're sheep who automatically agree with him. That's insulting to us. But there's a point at which someone can cross the line from being an active participant in democracy to crazy stalker type that just wants to attack. I repeat - shouldn't we be encouraging politicians who consistently engage with the public like James does? Isn't that the best way to be able to challenge them?
  12. Can't see anywhere in his post that he's saying LibDems are to thank for a lower crime rate. So your comment about party politics looks to me like a Campbell-esque attempt to smear a councillor you hate. That's between you and your conscience. Don't know what you issue with marking kits is either. But I see no problem with TELLING PEOPLE WHAT THE POLICE HAVE SAID, which is all he did. Being a victim of crime is horrible. But it's good to be reminded that ED isn't too bad in that respect. People on this forum sometimes interpret a couple of burglaries as evidence that the sky is falling down... All James did was to provide information that originally came from the police. Personally I'm grateful, it's interesting to know.
  13. And why tell him to go away? At least he puts his head above the parapet, knowing it'll get bitten off by one side or the other. Most politicians hide away. He's still here, engaging with the public. Isn't that what we want them to do, even if we don't like how they vote?

We get it. But now you sound like the stuck record. Stop banging on the man. I don't agree with all he says, but I don't take every chance to call him a liar. What's so bad about telling people that crime isn't too bad here? As the yanks would say 'why you gotta hate man?'
  15. You're either a total troll or the kind of person who has moved here and thinks they own the place just because they have a bit of money. I actually said that market forces would determine if it would be a success. I also said I didn't personally like tattoos but wasn't about to impose my beliefs on others. You're the one who thinks only the lower classes and criminals should have them. You're either a prejucied idiot or totally twisted. Either way I wash my hands of bigots like you, this thread and this forum. Have a nice life.
  16. Alan - yes, fair enough. I did put words in your mouth there. Let me rephrase. I believe that anyone who describes tattoos as 'cheap and demeaning' is ignoring the fact that many others think differently, and is ignorant of the fact that it is a PERSONAL CHOICE. I believe that to describe David Beckham in the way you did is wrong, and it GIVES ME THE IMPRESSION that you feel a tattoo place should not be opened round here, simply because you don't like how they look.

  18. Ha! Yes. TK Maxx, and let's put a Matalan in there somewhere. While we're at it, a Primark would do funny things to the blood pressure of some people round here...
  19. Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > > And how exactly did I qualify for this honour? > I wouldn't call being an unapologetic and unpleasant snob an honour. But since you ask, describing tattoos as 'cheap and demeaning' is offensive, frankly. And you may not like David Beckham, but the man has put his money where his mouth is with his footballing academy and can put what he wants on his body. He's a good father and - a rarity in modern footballers - a decent role model for hard work. You're saying that you are the arbiter of taste and decency, and that you're opinion of what is good and right should dictate whether or not a tattoo shop should open near us. Nimbyism and arrogance of the highest order. Just because you don't like looking at it isn't a reason to tell others they can't look like that. As for Silverfox...wow. Were you mugged by a tattood person in your youth or something? You bigoted freak. Get a sense of perspective and stop being a hater. Or get to the Village where your way of life isn't threatened. Disgusting. If a tattoo place isn't wanted here then it will fail within a few months. If it survives then it's because there;s business for it. How people think that it will lower the tone of the area is beyond me.
  20. Oh.My.God. Over the years I've seen some pretty snobbish, nimbyish and frankly offensive views posted here, but Alan Medic and Silverfox have just surpassed them all. Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean OTHER PEOPLE have to agree with you. I'm no fan of body ink or piercing - and would never have it done - but what others do is their own deal. My wife has tattoos - should I not find her attractive because of it? And why shouldn't they be catered for round here? "Associated with payday loans"? Get a life. That's a horrible thing to say - and if you saw the salary levels of some inked people I know you'd realise what an idiot you are. I guess by your logic that NO business that you personally don't approve of should be allowed here? Who made you overlords of ED?
  21. Rats only go in search of food and shelter. If they're heading in your house (which I agree isn't great) then either - as civilserveant says - they've been disturbed, or they think they can find food. They don't go near humans if they have any choice in the matter. As I think your house is unlikely to be a tip, then probably someone has moved them on from where they were. Unfortunately your only option (as far as I know) is to shout at EHO's until they do something.
  22. Eyesore? Bit harsh... What's your suggestion then?
  23. Hi all, The playgroup we used to take our little one to has closed down. Can anyone reccomend a playgroup or one o'clock club in the area for a 21 month old with too much energy? Thanks in advance! Dan
