  1. On reflection, I sleep in East Dulwich and that's about it. It's basically become a dormitory + organic weekend theme park. Like Center Parcs but without the flumes and canoeing.
  2. 110k is a chunk of cash. But for a rear extension plus loft done well it's at the cheaper end of the spectrum.
  3. "Buried under Sue's patio"...Surely one of the best lines in recent forum history.
  4. Like a half drowned man RPC...desperately clawing himself up the beach. And this is the dillusion. They speak to customers like they did last night. Or a few weeks back. And can still think that they haven't lost the crowd. That they'll all come back. As long as there are some fawning groupies to keep topping up the ego. Hallucinating. It's almost like they're on drugs....
  5. When you lose 75% of your shareholding within a year, you've lost the bulk of your business. When you're taking cash payments and running down stock, you've lost the bank. When you have a blackboard up extolling your amazing menu but cant serve any food on a prime night, you've lost your chef. And when you're explicity rude to a prospective and polite new customer on walking in, you've lost your self respect. I've given this place it's fair dues for a while now, because I could see the good bits and wanted it to succeed, because the usual moaners gave it an unfair kicking without trying it properly. But there are limits. And limits have been reached. Ladies and Gentlemen, I regret to inform you of the spontaneous, Scarface-like ego driven implosion of The Patch.
  6. Actually last time I was out with Surfbobby it took me four days at work before I'd fully recovered. I also recall climbing onto a roof in Peckham and drinking bottles of Prosecco under a railway. I suspect The Dulwich Raider would approve.
  7. OMG is that a real life appearance from Surfbobby??!! the great man lives!
  8. I read it before you SJ! You cant help thinking half life has taken fashion cues from Surfbobby, co-founder of the Barry Barry run.
  9. I've signed the petition. https://www.change.org/p/heygate-estate-scandal-demand-an-investigation?recruiter=152746700&utm_campaign=mailto_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
  10. I did this one in 2013: http://www.ldwa.org.uk/Surrey/W/2323/founders-footpaths-anytime.html It was the founding walk of the Long Distance Walking Association (cool dudes) and is 26 miles long and doable in a day in time for a finish at the Abinger Hatch pub: http://theabingerhatch.com/ It's easy to get to from London and has long and beautiful stretches away from people/roads/noise....
  11. I was going to say "dont forget to use the bones too!" but then I remembered.... If I was 100% veggie Sunday Roasts would hold far less appeal to be honest....not that roast veg aren't tasty...
  12. When I lived by myself I quite often cooked a chicken roast for 1 as it worked out quite cheap. I'd do the meal, then make a chicken salad or sandwiches with the leftovers the next day, then I'd boil the bones up to make a stock and throw in leeks and some potatoes to make a soup. For about ?8 you'll get about 4 meals.
  13. And get this hipsters. Aberdeen Angus steakhouses have heritage. 50 years of it in fact. http://www.angussteakhouse.co.uk/heritage
  14. To be fair. Before the mass internet (pre-1998ish?) , when you were all in your 20's and didn't have the latest "hip" places at the touch of a finger? you've all ended up abroad and in some cities equivalent of Aberdeen Angus steakhouse because you were hungry and new and it was central and it looked half welcoming. All those places need are a few people like that every day and they'll keep going?.. Only a matter of time before some hipster buys that chain, reinterprets it and it becomes the next big kitsch revival thing?.
  15. For me it's mainly all of the "artists" who sell millions but write none of their own stuff, don't have a say on who's in their band and who are basically TV/record company puppets. Prime example: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/10563266/Its-a-joke-that-Sam-Smith-is-the-Sound-of-2014.html
  16. It might not be the best example of A&C as it's late in the period and nudging 1930's stylings?.but it's still part of the the point here is that the style is prevalent throughout the village and therefore is an integral part of it's character. I don't see consistency in the Estates selective form of conservation management - like their commercial leasing policy, it's hardly enlightened.
  17. MrsMcC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hope not Otta but that can happen anywhere > including ED and Beckenham! And that means even right behind a fully manned police station. C?$%?.
  18. Well said EDOldie. Ignoring the tarmac and car lot around that and looking more closely?.isn't that Arts and Crafts?
  19. My experience: 2 months in the Treme in New Orleans, many 3am walk backs through Harlem, 5am walk backs through Stirling back home FFS?.Peckham side streets lots of times late... ?.and my only assault/mugging so far was in central East Dulwich, 3 ribs broken and phone and cash gone. Which seems to sum it up about right.
  20. Beards, Babies and Burgers. And three threads on it. I'd say that's a result for the organisers. It was a good effort. At one point there was a half decent attempt at a disco....but as one rastafarian guy said to me.... getting the english middle classes dancing at 3pm without much alcohol is a near impossible task.
  21. It's Catford or Vancouver for me.
  22. Catford is actually quite well served for transport. The Catford Constitutional Club is worth an ale or three.
  23. Driving back from the wilds of Woolwich today I took refuge at the The Nunhead Bite on the green. What a wonderful array of beards, burgers and babies. Some lucky peeps had all three going on. Anyway, It was all nicely done, the food was rather good indeed and the event was enlivened by a lovely guy with a disco ball on his head, totally off his chops and in a jacket clearly stolen from the last Arcade Fire video.
  24. They are spending a fortune - major reconstructive surgery to get the space right and level it all. But good that they realised it was needed as many others wouldn't have...even if they underestimated the task in hand. Also a sure sign that private equity money is at play. They'll be busy enough to turn a profit I'm sure but will also regain some back when selling on the lease in future as it will likely command higher rents.
  25. I can honestly say that I've helped out over a dozen mums in that predicament over the past few years. Do I get a gold star?
